Senator Debbie Stabenow's Husband Admits To Sex With Alleged Prostitute Alycia Martin

AP reports:

The husband of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow told police he paid a prostitute $150 for sex at a hotel, according to a police report.

Thomas Athans, 46, co-founder of the liberal TalkUSA Radio network, was stopped by police who were investigating prostitution at the hotel, according to a police report obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press under the state Freedom of Information Act.

The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News first reported on the case.

Stabenow, D-Mich., said in a statement it was "very disturbing and serious. Obviously it's a deeply difficult and personal matter..."

...Stabenow and Athans married in 2003. He started TalkUSA Radio in 2006 after leading programming at Air America, the liberal network that declared bankruptcy that year.

Police said they arrested Alycia Martin, 20, of Westland in the hotel room on a charge of prostitution. She was arraigned March 12 and freed on $100 bail pending a hearing on April 22. There is no telephone listing for her in Westland and she did not have an attorney of record to speak for her Wednesday.

This sort of guilt by association crap is really creepy. We are becoming a world of voyeurs and for what reason?
As a child during the depression I once had a playmate whose father was caught holding up a grocery store, not for money but for food. He was released pending trial and committed suicide.
From that point on, none of the kids in the neighborhood were supposed to play with the kid any more and I never ubdeerstood why. Now in retrospect I can only imagine the hurt that was leveled on my friend for something he had no control over.

An exception would be Spitzer who actively prosecuted the very people he did business with. That kind of duplicity goes beyond a question of ethics or morally and enters into a criminal mindset. I have a friend who is 35yrs old and his wife is 33 and they have three kids. He cheats on her regularly, in fact I would say that he dates more women than I do and I'm single. I point out their ages to say that I don't think that 35 and 33 is very old, yet his 33 year old wife really acts as if she is about 50 years old. In fact I would say that there are probably a lot of 50 year olds that are more youthful than her.

I often find myself actually thinking that she may be to blame for his cheating, because the fact is he really is a nice guy. My friends wife never leaves the house, she puts no effort into her physical appearance (I know that's a cold thing to say, but it's true). He has never said explicitly, but he once suggested that she either doesn't like to or doesn't at all have sex with him, again she's 33yrs old. For example, he once said to me "If you can't get it at home you got to get it some where"

My friend has his own business, a very nice house and three very beautiful kids and my guess is at the end of the day this is going to end very badly for him, but really is a situation like this all his fault.

Sometimes a woman loses her Libido after childbirth. In a quarter of cases it never returns. Nobody's fault, just a side effect of child birth. As long as everyone agrees to be an adult about it, all parties concerned can live a satisfying productive life.

I see three trends in these situations:

1. one spouse stops initiating extended foreplay, oral sex, etc; i mean come on, who doesn't enjoy long make outs with a loved one? giving a great blow job? when you lose that, it quickly goes down hill.
2. that really sad thing that happens to some people of any age or sex where they got all fixated on how their partner looks; i'm not talking that guys need to look at hot stuff; i'm talking where shtooping a hot looking person makes you feel good. so shallow. life is too short. give me a hot horny ugly spouse walking around naked any day. what's ugly anyway.
3. sex drive comes from doing it. motivation follows action. people talking about lost sex drives are people that don't do it a lot. vicious circle.

Eh, I think that once the thread is dropped it's very, very hard to pick it up again. It's pretty common in your marriages for the sex thread to get dropped when the children are young. The mother is tired, often exhausted, and the last thing she wants after the kids are asleep is to have sex. Couples in that scenario need to schedule dates, schedule times when the kids sleep at grandma's, etc., so that they can regularly connect sexually -- but the vast majority don't do anything of the sort, and instead the sex thread gets dropped to the point where not much sex is happening at all. This is more common than most people think. Once the thread is dropped, it can become very hard to pick it up again -- the attraction that was not maintained can be hard to regenerate later on, once events have intervened.

Marriages are much harder to make work than anyone entering one believes.

In may cases, once children arrive, child rearing becomes de facto the central activity in the marriage. And in this day and age, expectations about what constitutes "good parenting" are quite extreme in terms of time demands. Many women who fall into the trap of staying at home to focus on child rearing end up completely beaten down and exhausted. Nothing kills a libido like being chronically tired, and many of these women simply are that -- chronically tired. But it isn't as simple as "well, she doesn't take care of herself and she never gives him sex". Those things may both be true, but when you saddle a woman with taking care of three children largely by herself, there's a great risk that the marital relationship will suffer dramatically -- and that isn't her fault alone, it's the fault of both spouses for arranging the marriage that way, and having three kids to begin with.

Infidelity is never really acceptable. It doesn't (or at least rarely does) happen in a vacuum. There is always a context. But it's never a forced decision, and there are always other options -- including, working on the marriage, ending the marriage, etc. Infidelity is like trying to have one's cake and eat it as well -- getting satisfying sex on the side, while maintaining a marriage "for the sake of the children" (or to avoid an expensive and nasty divorce, parental disapproval and the like).

We know that this irritates women to know end, angers them tremendously, but most men are quite attracted to young women, even as young as 20. It has always been thus, and it will always be thus. It is not abnormal, and it is not borderline pedophilia, it has to do with the young and fertile being naturally attractive to males. That doesn't excuse the misbehavior one bit -- noone is a robot, and we all need to take responsibility for our actions, but the attraction is there for many men, and it is not pedophilic in the least.
