Senator Debbie Stabenow's Husband Admits To Sex With Alleged Prostitute Alycia Martin

AP reports:

The husband of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow told police he paid a prostitute $150 for sex at a hotel, according to a police report.

Thomas Athans, 46, co-founder of the liberal TalkUSA Radio network, was stopped by police who were investigating prostitution at the hotel, according to a police report obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press under the state Freedom of Information Act.

The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News first reported on the case.

Stabenow, D-Mich., said in a statement it was "very disturbing and serious. Obviously it's a deeply difficult and personal matter..."

...Stabenow and Athans married in 2003. He started TalkUSA Radio in 2006 after leading programming at Air America, the liberal network that declared bankruptcy that year.

Police said they arrested Alycia Martin, 20, of Westland in the hotel room on a charge of prostitution. She was arraigned March 12 and freed on $100 bail pending a hearing on April 22. There is no telephone listing for her in Westland and she did not have an attorney of record to speak for her Wednesday.

Why is this on Huffpost? I thought Huffpo was liberal, but it seems to have a strong puritanical streak, without all the prostitute stuff on it. But CNN is just as eager to parade these things.

When husband and I attended a "liberal" church we finally got tired of the endless sex problems there. Middle aged wives with cheating hubbies, wives' suicides, husbands' remarriages, all proceding blissfully under the aegis of the liberal pastor. And then the homosexual "youth pastor' brought his boyfriend out of the closet, and after a year he killed himself. At that point I resigned, husband followed a year later. There was a tremendous mysogeny in this "Liberal" church. You can of course find such in any group, including fundamentalist churches, but I found less of it with the Bible churches we joined. Everyone's human, but liberal seems to specialize in letting standards decline and inviting scandalous reports in the press.

You are right HST. I do not claim all liberals have these problems more than conservatives. I am just giving you my experience, which lasted quite a few years and was pretty intense (our whole social circle) with a liberal church/group. In the Bible churches we then attended, we did not find a similar mysogyny, although we did find some things we did not like, such as strong advocacy for voting for George Bush. We don't attend church much any more, don't belong to any. I think what I'm really talking about is mysogyny among liberals. my poor old brain is not functioning on all cylinders today--but I just wanted to get in that observation about mysogyny in a venue one would not expect it to exist. But bad stuff exists everywhere. Lots of bad stuff lying around.
