Air America Host Randi Rhodes Suspended For Calling Hillary A "Big F*cking Whore"

Air America host Randi Rhodes called both Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton "whores" in a recent appearance, seen below. Rhodes, who hosts a weekday radio show on Air America, said to the cheering crowd, "What a whore Geraldine Ferraro is! She's such a fucking whore!" She then proceeded to say, "Hillary is a big fucking whore, too" to a mixed audience reaction. "You know why she's a big fucking whore? Because her deal is always, 'Read the fine print, asshole!'"

Update: Rhodes has been now been suspended from the network. Air America released the following statement:

Air America has suspended on-air host Randi Rhodes for making inappropriate statements about prominent figures, including Senator Hillary Clinton, at a recent public appearance on behalf of Air America in San Francisco which was sponsored by an Air America affiliate station.

"Air America encourages strong opinions about public affairs but does not condone such abusive, ad hominem language by our Hosts," said chair Charlie Kireker.

Air America has got three really great talk show host. Thom Hartman, Big Ed Schultz and the hilarious Stephanie Miller. Another sharp cookie is Rachel Maddow and I see she spending a lot of time on MSNBC now a days. Randi is okay in small doses.

I'm a little unclear here. Is the problem with the word "fucking" or with the word "whore" or with the word "big?" Or was it "Clinton." As mentioned above, any of the former three adjectives are fine if they're modifying "Bush." Now, if you're on the air, you can't say "fucking," unless it's paid-for TV (Showtime, HBO, etc.) or radio (XM, Serius). I'm pretty sure you can say "whore" or "big" anywhere, public or private.

So, to sum up, "Bush is big, fucking whore" is fine, just as long as we don't mention "torture." Right?

"Freedom of Speech" applies to all or neither ... you do not get to pick and choose what is appropriate and what is in-appropriate.

I have heard countless Air-America hosts on-air refer to the President and Vice-President by very unbecoming and derogatory titles and names. I find it tiring and a bit embarrassing as an American living abroad having to make excuses at work with my colleagues for the defamatory language and names used for our elected officials. The worst of these has to be Richard Green (Clout) ... Mr Green, his title and name is Senator John McCain (yes, Mr Green, the rules applies to you also and not open for discussion­.)

BTW I am a die-hard Bobby Kennedy Democrat ... and I am an American living abroad for some 15+ years. So again, let me state this again in case you missed it the first time ... If you are going to follow the rules about "Freedom of Speech" then it applies for neither or for all!

Can we get real about "hate" speech ? In a political campaign which has featured Hillary's thugs painting Obama back in to the black corner he dared to emerge from with such enlightening comments as his cocaine use, there is a certain amount of rough and tumble one would expect. Hillary and Geraldine both claim that women need to be judged on their qualifications and that women MUST vote for 'their own kind'.

So, it is somehow 'hate' speech to do a comedy routine, off-air, which describes Hillary as a whore ? Well, what would you call a woman whose main 'experience' as her husband's helpmate consisted of digging up 'dirt' on the women with whom he either had sexual relations or he assaulted ?? A woman who has sold out feminism as she savaged 'trailer trash' and supported the repeal of AFDC and pushing poor mothers into low wage work for rich women like her ?

'Hate' speech is not only just a label to shut up any opponent.

Randi Rhodes is what turned me away from Air America from the beginning. She's rude, dismissive and abrasive to her callers and she struck me as the Bill O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh of Left radio.
