Hillary Clinton With Jay Leno On Tonight Show: Enters To "Rocky" Theme, Jokes About Sniper Fire

Hillary Clinton hit the humor trail Thursday night by dropping in on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno. Though she didn't attempt to go joke-for-joke with Leno by dishing out one-liners like McCain and Letterman, Clinton did attempt to score with her own brand of funny. Entering to none other than the theme from "Rocky," Clinton quickly jumped into a gag about her recent historical embellishments: "I was so worried I wasn't going to make it. I was pinned down by sniper fire," she quipped before briefly discussing her 'lapse' with regards to her Bosnia memories. Leno, for his part, dropped in a joke about answering the phone at 3 a.m. before the conversation moved on to the election, Bill's temper, and Florida delegates.

Clinton said she was proud of her daughter, Chelsea, 28, who has been campaigning for her. But she said her "stomach is in knots" most days thinking about what she might encounter each day. Chelsea Clinton has fielded some tough questions in recent appearances, particularly about her father's relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. I just watched the entire thing (DAMN I LOVE TIVO)..........She just got done talking about "revoting" in Michigan and Florida and that she is in favor of a revote but that Obama's campaign has come out with a straight NO. She is a liar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If there was a FAIR way to have a revote he would support it. The problem is whether he wants a revote, the problem lies in legalities of a revote. The rules that the Clinton campaign has proposed have been illegal. There were Democrats who voted for a Republican candidate because they knew their votes wouldn't be counted in the primary for the Democratic candidate.

She wanted a mail-in revote in Florida which is against Florida state law when selecting a nominee.

The facts are that there is absolutely no way to have a legal revote in either state without the Republicans also revoting.

Both agreed to the rules before the campaign started and she keeps wanting to change those rules to suit her needs. And until her needs are met she will used the scorched earth, kitchen sink, Tonya Harding strategies in order to make sure that NO Democrat will win this year just so that she can say "I told you so" and then she will run again in 2012.

The mail-in voting idea was out there because so many Floridians are seasonal residents and they wanted to try and reach everyone who is a registered voter in that state. I'm no fan of George Bush; I think he should have been impeached. I did not especially like his WMD joke but if that's the worse thing he had ever done I'd be ecstatic at this point. Similarly I would like to decide between Clinton and Obama on something more substantial than whether a joke is appropriate. I would like to understand how my life and how the state of our country would differ under an Obama or a Clinton presidency. So far I have concluded either would be great; McCain would not (even though I respect him as a person).

Agree completely, but no one said to judge her solely on the "joke". It just adds more evidence to the quote I'll try to paraphrase: It's not that they lie, all politicians lie. It's how easily they lie. It's clear that not only did she repeat this sniper fire lie over and over (I call BS on any excuse she gives other than admitting she lied, like sleep deprivation), but this shows that she not only thinks it's ok to lie, but thinks it's funny to.

It has not been proven that she lied. I, and others, have posted multiple possible explanations. I do not know if she lied but I have tried to give her the benefit of the doubt as I have with Obama when he was accused of lying.

When George Bush said we would only go to war with Iraq as a last resort, it sure seemed to me he had failed to be truthful. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but I was unable to find any reasonable explanation other than he lied. If someone provided a reasonable explanation I would still be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but I have to admit I really can't imagine that happening.

I'm glad Senator Clinton has a sense of humor about herself. But I don't think that's the point. Like her vote on the war she's never really admitted she lied about the Bosnia trip. Her advisors are still trying to spin it as if there was the possibility of sniper fire. There are some things in life I don't think you'd imagine - getting shot at by snipers with your child is one of them. Making light of her lie is as others have said very Bush-like. For someone who talks about "vetting" she continues to make statements that set her up for future attacks. Whatever she's paying Mark Penn, et al. it's way too much. While it's true all politicians, including Obama, exaggerate experiences, that's a bit difference than telling the same lie on more than one occassion and then when called on it still not admitting the lie. Transparency has been the biggest problem with the Bush administration - and we don't need more of that in the future.

As one who could have voted for either candidate, I became progressively more astonished at Hillary. And increasingly annoyed by her supporters and blog posters. You're right to the point. But I don't see this mouthbreathing among the many Obama supporters I meet. First, Hillary has been way out of line (Bill comparing Obama to Jesse Jackson in SC, Hillary praising McCain and ignoring Obama, etc.), and she's done it unprovoked as a ruthless, and utterly stupid, tactic to destroy Obama at any cost. Second the tone of her blog flamers reminds me of nothing other than the repub trolls. Obama supporters have mistakenly (but understandably) responded to this provocation in kind. But there is a better way, just don't play the game. Hillary's bizarre "sniper fire" episode has completely disqualified her as a serious candidate. If you can't remember such a dramatic element of your major foreign policy experience, then you're way too brain-addled to be able to answer the 3am call. And if she's lying-well the game's really over.

Hillary is in the process of flaming out. She's hoisting herself on her own petard, and the best we can do is maintain some dignity as provides the best argument that the paradigm has shifted.

Now I was a staunch defender of Bill Clinton throughout his presidency, but, in truth, you have to admit that there were times when he tried to wiggle out of having been caught in a lie. His line about the "meaning of "is" is" is a perfect example. Hillary's attempt to save face is equally embarrassing. But in Bill's case, he was defending himself against attacks concerning a private, personal affair. In Hillary's case, it was a voluntary, broad, bold statement meant for public consumption for which she is completely responsible.
