It almost always comes when the audience least expects it: the moment Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton brings a roaring crowd to a hush with a heart-rending anecdote.

"I remember listening to a story about a young woman in a small town along the Ohio River, in Meigs County, who worked in a pizza parlor," the Democratic presidential candidate said during a stop in Cleveland, beginning a particularly grim tale.

New York Times reports today that Clinton's story of a woman dying in Ohio because she was refused medical service is not true: "The woman, Trina Bachtel, did die last August, two weeks after her baby boy was stillborn at O"Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, Ohio. But hospital administrators said Friday that Ms. Bachtel was under the care of an obstetrics practice affiliated with the hospital, that she was never refused treatment and that she was, in fact, insured.
"We implore the Clinton campaign to immediately desist from repeating this story," said Rick Castrop, chief executive officer of the O"Bleness Health System."

This isn't the entire story about the pregnant woman. Sen. Clinton does more than fail to mention the debt to the hospital Sen. Clinton has convoluted the details in a gross manner.

It's fine for her to have her own speaking style, but why does she have to sneer at Obama's oratory gifts? The way she's always condescending to him offends me greatly. Actually, I think she's jealous of him.

Comparing Hil to Darth Vader is BS. This site makes Drudge Report seem classy. Apparently there is no room for Clinton supporters here.

It is really disheartening to see the Clintons be turned on by Democrats and knee capped by the media.

I agree, huffpost should be above it. That said, wasn't it Hillary that compared Cheney to Darth Vader?

You know, I am voting for Obama, but this headline and picture is uncalled for. So she is using anecdotes about people who suffer from our horrible healthcare system. That is her right. Let's not adopt the tactics of Fox News and distort eveything, ok? It makes us look stupid.

I am an Obama supporter as well, and I agree -- but the headline is Washington Post's headline, not Huffington Post's. However, the Vader picture does nothing but hurt the cause and further alienate any remaining Hillary supporters, whose support we need and should respect. I just hope this battle is over soon enough for them to move through the 5 stages of grief and get back on board before the general election. :)

Your sensitivity to others who are needed in November is unusual here. So, kudos.

In even the Gallup poll showing Clinton with only 37% favorable ratings and Obama with higher ones, that same poll showed them neck and neck at 45% as far as voting goes.

Quinnipiac poll yesterday shows, per Reuters:

"In a general election matchup in Florida, McCain closely trails Clinton 42 percent to 44 percent but McCain leads Obama, who would be the first black president, 46 percent to 37 percent..."

In Ohio, Clinton has a 48 to 39 percent lead over McCain after months of too-close-to-call results..." In an Obama-McCain matchup, Obama gets 43 percent against 42 percent for McCain.

In Pennsylvania, Clinton tops McCain 48 to 40 percent and Obama leads the Arizona senator 43 percent to 39 percent.

http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSN0234370120080402?sp=true

When the popular vote is even now only 1% apart, the closeness of the actual voting numbers when Florida and Michigan aren't counted yet, if ever, means there are a lot 'remaining'... WHEN neither candidate has won 2025 or so, and the closeness is the reason for a bothersome 2-person race, there's a lot of tension over it.

If Clinton loses Pennsylvania, that will signal the actual end for her. Until then, things are close, in actuality, and it can make Obama supporters fear that they can still somehow lose a rare opportunity and communications more tendentious as a result.

I agree completely with your sentiment, but this is likely another Clinton Sniper Fire Story.

The facts just don't add up. Violating the EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act) can result in fines in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and your hospital being shut down. If this story is true, then the hospital would have violated that act, costing themselves $150,000 in order to collect 100 bucks! Sorry, I'm not buying it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMTALA

Then there's the medical facts themselves. I'm having a hard time coming up with a plausible scenario where the woman could get all the way home, then all the way back the next day, only to end up dying and losing the baby. Any labor complication I can think of that could have such a tragic result, would happen over hours at most, not days.

Oh Huffpost. There was no credible reason to put that picture of Darth Vader up there, except because your editors are as skeezy as Karl Rove.

Stop endorsing Obama. It makes him look bad.

Hillary Clinton has ALWAYS been on the Dark Side. She is biologically incapable of telling the truth.

Hillary is a lying sack of excrement and her campaign will be remembered as one of the dirtiest and filthiest in Democratic Party history.

Hillary is an atrocity and abomination as a person.
Her campaign is based on race baiting, fear mongering, triangulation, and lies.

Hillary has no class, dignity, or gravitas. She needs to be swept into the wastebasket of history where she belongs

Almost as repugnant and repulsive as Hillary are her supporters in the media - Richard Mellon Scaife, Joe Scarborough, and Lou Dobbs

The media's sleazey attacks on Hillary Clinton, amplified on the Huffington Post, plus the swarms of frantic Obamahiles, tells us that Obama supporters, including his media goupies, are justifiably terrified their candidate cannot win on his merits.

That explains the well-oiled Obama slime machine, spewing its venom 24/7 at the Clinton family.

If you haven't got the qualifications necessary for the presidency, then you have to resort to every low level attack in the book to win. That's the tragic dimension of this year's Democratic primary in which the Obama camp has already disgraced itself by trying to force Hillary Clinton out of the race and disenfranchise millions of Democrats who have not had the oppportunity yet to vote.

Sorry. We think he already HAS won on his merits.

He's got the better run campaign - better organized, better able to mobilize others, better able to win delegates, better able to budget, pays his bills on time.

Hes got the most pledged delegates, the "popular vote", the most states. He's doing very well in the polls, particularly against Hillary.

No, he is a wonderful candidate who has certainly earned his nomination.

What we are afraid of is that Hillary will actually succeed in stealing it by unfair means.
