New York Times:

Americans are more dissatisfied with the country's direction than at any time since the New York Times/CBS News poll began asking about the subject in the early 1990s, according to the latest poll.

In the poll, 81 percent of respondents said they believed that "things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track," up from 69 percent a year ago and 35 percent in early 2003.

America picked him...at least half of them did. You got exactly what you asked for....a mornic, shit for brains that cares nothing about this nation or its citizens and has the sincere desire to bring about armageddon. To think, this idiot has a couple hundred more days left with which to drag this nation even further down into the gutter sends a chill down my spine. Especially when you have the likes of Bush, McCain and Lieberman trying to assert as they did with Iraq that AlQaida is in IRan...the writing is on the wall folks....shine your boots, prep your weapons, it's onto a new battlefront. Only this time you have Generals actually asking for our governmet to reinstate the draft so now it's not going to be someone elses kids...they will be your kids.

He still should rot in jail for life and have to share a cell with Rove.

Impeachment was and is "off the table" so-to-speak, because the Democrats are directly complicit in enabling the Bush "administration" with its many abuses of power. They know this. They, like their Republican counterparts, are evading accountability and responsibility to the American people to whom they represent.

The truth is, the Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same corrupt coin, playing the old game of "good cop, bad cop" to a submissive and battered population.

This assumes that Republicans wouldn't vote to convict AFTER Impeachment occures in the House. But then, it is very difficult to even know what the verdict will be of a jurry WITHOUT the trial first.

I find it very interesting, and disheartening, that those whose emotions are most affected by their ultra-patriotism usually resolve to hurling insults.

Once you open your eyes and accept the truth of the reality surrounding you, instead of blindly accepting what you are told is the truth, you will be one step closer to understanding how to change your country for the better.

this shouldn't be about party lines....if the dems were persuasive enough and had enough support of the people they could push repugs into their corner. However, as you can tell by the polls, half of America is still in the dark, ignorant, or just too stupid to figure out what is happening right before their eyes. Its not enough to be outraged on the blogs....people literally need to take to the streets....the elected officials might change their tune if they were staring down at the angry faces of a million people demanding for impeachment.

It's late, I'm tired, and I can't be held responsible for the logic of my thinking, so I'll post it on the internet for posterity. Why not?

The Dems took impeachment off the table. The current crop of Dems is run by the DLC. The DLC has been largely run by the Clintons. What president was impeached last, and whose impeachment highlights would be shown in a loop on all the channels if the Dems tried to impeach Bush and Cheney? Might someone have been anxious not to relive those days, for fear of how it might impact their presidential aspirations?

Like I said, it's late.

Check your Webster's, friend, 'majority' simply means "the greater number".
While it's true they don't have a 2/3 majority, that does not excuse their perfidy to OUR Constitution and OUR country's Rule of Law. I agree with dotmafia's comment 100%, and it's NOT the comment I find trollish and lacking of intelligance here. Being an apologist for the Dems inaction, of even investigating the government's criminal acts, WILL NOT motivate them to honor their oaths of office. Denying that BOTH sides of the isle accept the legal BRIBES of the very same lobbyists, and are covering up government CRIMES, allows them to continue their corrupt behavior with impunity.

Count the votes to impeach in the House. Are there enough? Yes. Now count the votes to convict in the Senate? Are there enough? No. Name the Rs in the Senate who will jump ship and vote yes to convict. Now, do you get it? Impeach away, but if the votes aren't there to convict it's all a waste of time and breath. Clinton was impeached but not convicted and the country went through hell in the process. I'd much rather the D record would get to the point where only a few tinfoil hat Rs are left in either house and we get the country on the right track cleaning up the R mess and rebuilding our country.

We need a total repudiation of everything Bush stands for -Tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy, non-enforcement of govt regulation, expansionist foriegn policy resembling colonialism, govt interference in people's personal lives, privitization of public resources, deficit spending, - these are the CON values that we must repudiate with the 2008 elections

It's not just Bush it's the republican party agenda that is destroying this country. Amazing how they claim they are the authority on Christan principles but could not care less about putting those values into practice. Invading other countries and killing people, not at all concern about the struggle of the working middle class. For them It's all about protecting the advantaged in this country, and if you don't fit the mole than to bad for you. My husband and I talk about this often, why are we democrats when the republican agenda is better for our business we are more advantaged than most, we concluded....it's because we remember when we were not advantaged and what it's like to struggle. We want everyone to have the opportunity to better their life and if that means we pay a bit more we're happy to.

Why else have the Democrats been holding hands WITH the Republicans these last several years?

The Dems ran in 2006 on Accountability and getting out of Iraq.

Since Bush has the power of the veto, the only way to try and stop the war would be to stop funds. The Dems can't get the number of votes in the Senate. If they refuse to hand over money at all, and keep sending the same bill back to Bush, he just continues the war on a shoestring budget, casualties go up, he accuses Democrats of not supporting the troops, and increasing casualties. Bush could probably keep the war going until he gets out of office, even if the Democrats managed somehow to cut off funds. Impeaching brings things to a standstill and nothing gets done, Dems ratings go down, Republicans get back in. In a way, the Democrats have been in a no win situation if they really want to stop the war, and bring the troops home.

I totally agree. The Republican party has an horrific agenda, and it involves handing over taxpayer money to their cronies and backers at the expense of human lives and intense suffering. There is nothing more despicable, cold and inhuman, than war profiteering.

Great concern on direction but where will we be going tomorrow when Bush is gone?

I don't see why we can't put all three major candidates on the ballot and have a runoff of the top two? We need to give the American people the power to choose. This is as good of a time as any for election reform.

Partisan politics is a recipe for more conflict and head bashing. Our presidential elections have become a popularity contest. May be I am wrong, but we should be choosing our leaders based on attributes not personality. I know of no one who does not have personality flaws so what is the use of dwelling on them?

We need electoral reform. We have done nothing substantial since the 2000 fiasco with Gore & Bush and may perhaps be heading even for a bigger debacle in this cycle. The level of acrimony generated by the current electoral process is unhealthy for the soul of our nation. It creates divisions and chasms that needlessly weaken the very fabric that holds together this great country of ours.

Yes, electoral reform would work and is desperately needed. And yes, we haven't learned a damned thing from 2000 and 2004. Who's counting your vote nowadays anyway? Most certainly NOT a person in a majority of States. And in several others, you can't even trace your vote AFTER you cast it because there is no paper ballot. And in many other States, you may not get to vote because you're lacking ID(a form of a POLL TAX).

Blackbox voting worries me. No independent or Government agency has been allowed examine the code. The two companies that supply most of the machines are Republican owned. There is no paper trail for much of the black box voting, and there is no real way to counter election fraud. There was election fraud in NYC on Super Tuesday.

The past attempt at banning the use of waterboarding H.R. 2082: Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 - http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-2082 - passed BOTH the House and Senate with respectable margins only to falter in the House after Bush's veto.

However, looking at the cause of the need of H.R.2082 to come about one can assume that a majority in the House would IMPEACH alone, based on the authorization and use of TORTURE by this Administration. Why else did the House vote in plurality the first time, but to ensure the use of waterboarding never happen AGAIN! Again being the operative here in that it admits to certain facts in the first place; The Bush Administration DID use unlawful techniques of interrogation upon human beings.

There are your votes!
IMPEACH!

This current president remains in office because both the Republican and Democratic parties refuse to speak. Refuse to act. Lack conscience. If 1/2 of the correspondence from Bush's advisors and lawyers is true, if 1/2 of the facts concerning the intelligence information concerning WMD's, Valerie Plame, and what was happening in the middle east is accurate. If the administration personnel has continued ties to no bid contractors, well then we are truly a corrupt, immoral nation that has squandered lives. Lives of our citizens as well as lives of those in far away places. This is tragic. Let us encourage this president and his administration to step away from their offices or face impeachment proceedings. America cannot continue on its present course. We cannot afford it. Our military leaders say we cannot afford it. We need a recall and we need to rethink and return to America's former values.

And this notion sits well enough for you to claim that, "It's too late." ?

I assume that you're being pragmatic in your approach, but that would require you to also search for a solution. Please, look up the word, Pragmatic.

In kind, I might suggest that you're inflicted with apathy. Please, look that up.

Now resolve the differences...

The Authors of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution of these United States of America were very Pragmatic... NO? They never let the best of their apathy dictate, "It's too late." Did they?

Just remember, folks: *You* allowed him to steal not one, but TWO elections; *you* refused to impeach him; *you* refused to sign the petitions calling for same; *you* refused to riot in the streets as he destroyed 1) our economy, 2) our rights, 3) our Constitution. *You* refused to have him arrested for war crimes, corruption, incompetence, insanity. *You* not only sanctioned his rush to war, *you* bought into it fully (yes, *YOU*, the person reading this right now); *you* okayed the destruction of a sovereign country that had never attacked us, okayed the illegal expropriation of their resources, okayed the slaughter of over a million of their country and -women, did not call for revolution when the American body bags were flown in in the cover of night. *YOU*.

Those few of us who were screaming from Day One about this chimp-criminal were routinely ignored and harassed and, in some cases, deprived of our breathing rights. The bandwagon against this Worst President Ever, Worst Dictator Ever, did not exist eight years ago. Now it's full. It's full of posers like *you* who have claimed, falsely, to be part of our small band from the first. The band of awake and aware Actual Citizens who knew, knew from the start, just how evil this hateful fuck really was--and is.

Want change? Bullshit. *You* have proven *yourself* many times, over the course of most of this hateful decade.

Oh, yeah. Up *yours* too.

I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's work, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV's while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be. We know things are bad - worse than bad. They're crazy. It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone.'

Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad.

You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, Goddamnit! My life has VALUE!' So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell --

'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!'
