New York Times:

Americans are more dissatisfied with the country's direction than at any time since the New York Times/CBS News poll began asking about the subject in the early 1990s, according to the latest poll.

In the poll, 81 percent of respondents said they believed that "things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track," up from 69 percent a year ago and 35 percent in early 2003.

bomb bomb iran and finally americans can get rid of that pesky middle class.

as a have more i like things just the way they are. as long as we have mores have ohio and penn state in our pockets i can live the good life and hire people for my business as part timers and not pay benefits.

god bless americans the more you screw them the better they like it.

they are even willing to bomb iran to pacify israel. god bless them.

they are even willing to work as wal mart greeters for min wage and still vote repub. now that is the americans i like to be associated with.

as long as i can live in my gated community and hire landscrapers from south of the border for below min wage i live like a king. god bless middle class americans. keep them fearful and you got them under your complete control.

now americans make sure you look for that terrorist and socialist under your beds tonight like your parents looked for that commie.

oh dont look for the socialist he is busy in europe building your air force tankers for great wages with your tax payer dollars while your gov bails out bear sterns.

Is it true that Bush can pardon himself and cheney before he leaves office???
and if so, is there nothing that WE THE PEOPLE could do about it before hand??

You can't be pardoned of a crime you're not charged with and the President can't pardon himself.

Maybe there is an upside to not impeaching Bush and Cheney now...but charging them with war crimes after President Obama is in office.

thank you, Ad.

i hope you are right about that.

i would like to see them both impeached then imprisoned!

Sounds good. But you have to admit, you're a dreamer?

Isn't going to happen. Whoever f's up as much as nuts and his little dick have - 20 years out- MIGHT have something to worry about (prison/hanging/kill 'em however).

Now? Not the case. Too many pansies infest planet earth. Give it awhile ........... then we'll see.

Pity the poor bastard/bastard'ette who holds office when we FINALLY rebel.

But, as of now, nuts and his little dick, are off the hook, unfortunately.

What crime was Nixon charged with when he was pardoned by Ford? I do not recollect that he was ever formally charged. The way I see it is that Bush will pardon everyone, will resign a day or two before the end of his term, and President Cheney will pardon Bush.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:04 AM on 04/04/2008

Only Cheney. And only IF Cheney's been indicted and convicted of a crime. So...nada.

Only a sitting president can issue a Pardon.

ONLY an Impeached Official may NOT be Pardoned.

IF Bush/Cheney are allowed to serve full term and NOT be impeached, they may be pardoned for the implicated crime against humanity, the People of America and their Constitution.

IMPEACHMENT is the ONLY stop gap to a pardon.

WRITE YOUR REPRESENTATIVE!
DEMAND INVESTIGATION!
DEMAND ANSWERS!
REQUIRE RESULTS!

Let your Representative know that without them supporting and defending the Constitution FAITHFULLY and WITHOUT mental reservations or a purpose of evasion, you will not support their reelection, as their disrespect of their Oath to the People is evidence enough of TREASON!

Oh Joy! The great American public finally remove their heads from their collective arses. What planet have these people been living on? How much prescience did it take to see this was going to happen when little Georgie made his intentions known which, I would argue, was long before he became President? How can you go to war on two fronts, substantially lower taxes on the wealthiest of citizen/thieves, ignore science and expertise, and industriously go about privatizing every freaking government service that currently exists, including the military and think all is going swimmingly?

I guess people didn't believe Melman when he said he wanted to shrink the government until it could be drowned in the bathtub. How's it feel to be breathing that water now, my fellow Americans?

And to think I once was actually proud of my country, believing it was a beacon of freedom and justice; dedicated to the good of all. Of course, that only lasted until I was about 16 and could think about it independently.

I guess it's better late than never, but think of what it's cost us; think of the misery and suffering we've caused elsewhere and we and our children will have to pay for, and pay for, and pay for . . . for god knows how long.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:59 AM on 04/04/2008

Actually, the "small enough to drown it in a bathtub" quote originated with Grover Norquist, not Ken Melman. Sorry, but I'm just a stickler for details. It's a journalism thing. EB

Yup, agreed! If the rest of the world rose up and called the American electorate the stupidest people on the face of the earth, all we Americans could do is hang our collective heads in shame, considering the past 7 years of infamy. How many dead? For what? Why? This is like Vietnam all over again.

The sad truth is that until Americans feel their wallets are affected, they could care less about the country and it's leadership. We are by and large a selfish immature nation...most of us do no read and we don't care about someone else's child dying in the desert for an unjust war.

I am truly sad about where we are as a nation.

If that much of a majority "gets it", it must be really blatantly obvious. It gave me renewed hope in "the people" of this country. Geez I can't wait until Obama take the baton. He will certainly not be perfect, but at least we have a chance for a future.

I hope that all those people who know we're going down the toilet get off their butts and
vote.

No, I was trying to point out that asking poll questions than can have opposing views give you the same answer are not very indicative of the real state of the Union. They would do better to ask who do you think would do a better job of running the country, Democrats or Republicans? That will give you entirley different number. Dems make the mistake of relying to heavily on polls and then misinterperting the results to hear what they what to hear. Much as McBeth did. Hopefully, you get my drift.

Of course you do. Because you live in a fairy tale place where George Bush prances around in a loincloth and calls you by a pet name.

The rest of us live in reality where Bush has gotten every bill passed he's wanted on the economy and every war started and continued that he's wanted.

Please, show your great political savvy and provide details on what bills the Dems have passed that Bush has signed that have taken us down the tubes.

Hint: Zero.

No sooner said than done. First they help pass the Iraqi regime change Bill. Second they all supported the proposition that Iraq had WMDs. Third they continue to fund the war. Fourth they are unable to do any legislating even when they have the majority and Obama is telling us how he can reach across the aisle. I hope I didn't overload you with too many facts.

The irony is that the ones suffering most under Bush, military dead and wounded and their families, struggling blue collar workers and those in rural areas, were and continue to be the most committed Bush supporters.

They vote against their own interests and get hammered for it. Some have seen the light, others are like lemmings and will follow Bush right off the cliff rather than question their beliefs.

60 millions Americans voted for George Bush twice.

....especially the much-vaunted military personnel. Most studies of the 2000 Florida vote count show that many military votes were counted that should have been disallowed under law. Those soldier-twits got what they wanted, a tough fight.....in spades--but in a godforsaken Iraq!

As "Wiarton" indicates, MOST Americans desire to follow the course they perceive is that of the "crowd" rather than attempt to parse an issue for themselves. Result: Most Americans accept 'ideological packages'--whether from the blundering warriors of the right or the self-righteous, areligous, self-expiators of the left.

How is it that so many people are pessimistic about the future, yet nearly half of voters plan to cast a ballot for McCain? Have you not learned your lesson?

I used to have sympathy for the American people -- I truly believed that you were victims of bad government. I've come to see that you have exactly the quality of leadership that you deserve. When are you going to wise up?

Don't believe the polls showing all that support for McCain. Once it's Obama vs. McCain, the differences in issues will become stark.

The current polls are just personality contests, people don't think about details until the GE gets much closer.

Remember Hillary leading nationally by 25% before the primary elections started?

62,040,610 Americans voted to re-elected Bush in 2004. That's slightly more than the 19% in the poll. Bush is a reflection of the United States. It's not our best side, but it's a reality.

Exactly.

You can't defeat America by knocking down office buildings.

But America loses when we put citizens in jail without charges or access to council, when the government wiretaps anyone at will and when the military is worn down in a wasteful war.

Nice going Republicans.

YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD

"We the people" have lost ... and the corporations, terrorists, enemies and developing countries who now produce all our goods, have won.

We should have gone after Osama Bin Laden immediately after September 11th, with all the cooperation of the international intelligence community, to find this man and kill him. We could have done it in record timing, and demonstrated to future terrorists and terror regimes that if you harm us, we will certainly harm you back.

And all that $6 trillion wasted money could have been spent internally to fix our systemic issues, waning industrial development, eroding education and health care woes.

Instead we elected a man who has almost single-handedly created the demise of the modern Roman Empire. What a shame, a true shame ...
