A Democratic source tells On Call that the Democratic National Committee is returning as much as $175K to donors dismayed with the party's handling of the Florida and Michigan primaries. My source says the exact amount will be reported in the April 20 FEC filing.

UPDATE: A DNC spokeswoman is confirming that the party is returning money, totaling $45K, to three donors. Details will indeed be reported in that April 20 filing. All three are FL donors upset with the ongoing debate about how and if the state's votes and delegates will be counted.

These are the kind of Clinton supporters that represent what the National Democratic party must shed like an old snakeskin. Go ahead and stop contributing, and please don't vote for Obama in November, the party doesn't need these types in the tent. Go vote for McCain in November. Same goes for all the voters who support Hillary Clinton in Michigan and Florida. If these people can support the Clinton's royal desire to steal pledged delegates in primary elections that were unauthorized by the DNC, and in two states that Obama did not even campaign in because he was following the rules, and in Michigan he was not even named on the ballot, then these people are right wing facists. Let them go to the other party, let them go somewhere, but please just let them go. And let me add that Hillary can go along with them.

Clinton/Lieberman 2012: Republicans you can trust on day one.

All the candidates agreed to the DNC rules, now that the candidates still standing can't agree on how this mess should be resolved it's the fault of Obama. Interesting take on the totality of events.

How about the fact that Hillary is encouraging the superdelegates to overturn the will of the peopl(the popular vote) and endorse her. To disenfranchise the nation is OK with them....

If Hillary doesn't win the Clintons and their supporters will cry foul no matter what.
Who cares if Obama has had more votes than any Democratic primary candidate ever
Or that he has raised more money, from "The People," by the way than any other democratic primary candidate ever. More states , more delegates, that according to the Clintons arn't pledged, who cares about that??

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:47 AM on 04/05/2008

If the DNC wants that money back, us Obama supporters can give $175K in one hour.

Don't worry Dean, the fundraising machine of Obama will fill the coffers.

You also have Republican Charlie Crist and Hillary's advisor Harold Ickes to thank for the Florida mess. (Or Wolfson, I can't remember)

She didn't care before, but she does now?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:34 AM on 04/05/2008

I live in Florida and have refused to donate to the DNC from the moment it declared that our votes wouldn't count. Each request by email or postal service is returned with a note explaining that I will no longer support the DNC because of their punishment of Florida. I began this when there was still a full slate of candidates (I actually voted for Chris Dodd), and am not protesting because any candidate might or might not be affected. I fail to understand why New Hampshire and Iowa continue to be given special treatment and disagree with the entire manner in which state primaries or caucuses are scheduled. I, for one, have resented for years that decisions as to which candidate will represent the party in presidential races has been already determined by the time Florida has had a chance to vote. When I began my protest this year, I had no idea the race would still be close at this late date. Having said all that, I don't think the results of our primary should be counted this year. Not because we broke unfair rules, but because candidates did not campaign here and voters did not have an opportunity to get to know them before casting their "beauty pageant" votes. I don't think the results reflect what would have happened if all candidates had come to Florida and talked to us.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:56 AM on 04/05/2008

This whole mess should have never happened. It is not the voters fault but the leaders of the states and the DNC. I think that all votes should be counted or we are not a democracy. Any Obama supporter not saying votes should count are not true democrats.
This race will not be legit if they are not counted. Whichever way it goes.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:31 AM on 04/05/2008

You're right...the whole mess should have never happened, but FL and MI chose to move up their primary dates against DNC rules anyway. It happened, so now it must be dealt with.

No one is saything that the people's votes aren't important. I take that back...Hillary is saying that the people's votes shouldn't count when she's trying to poach pleadged delegates from Obama - delegates that were chosen by the votes of the people.

It's unfortunate that the voters are in this position, but even democracies have rules. And democracies are built under the concept of 'the good of the many' not 'the good of ALL'. Not an opinion, just a hard fact of life.

When the DNC pays for a caucus they can make all the rules, when States like Michigan and Florida PAY FOR a Primary they should make ALL THE RULES. The DNC and the RNC should be thankful for the States holding a REAL ELECTION for THEM, at TAXPAYER EXPENSE. Without the generosity of the States they would have to pay for running those phony caucuses like Wyoming, they have 60,000 REGISTERED DEMS, but only 8,900 went to the caucus.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:06 AM on 04/05/2008

My goodess.
There's no end to the lackjawed lamebrained will for party suicide Obama supporters won't exxhibit.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:56 AM on 04/05/2008

Gee, all the angry comments! How surprising!

Would you not be angry if your state was not allowed to matter? Your vote not allowed to count?!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:46 AM on 04/05/2008

Sure hope we don't have a 2000 repeat with the election hinging on Florida again because all of you might not like the end result.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:43 AM on 04/05/2008

If Obama gets the nomination he will will lose Michigan, Florida, Ohio and Penn. and john mcCain will win

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:11 AM on 04/05/2008

One of the strongest arguments supporters of Obama gave for his candidacy during the beginning of the contest for the nomination was Obama was superior to Clinton because she was a divisive and polarizing figure. Now thirteen months into the campaign this has proven to be true. At least the part about Hillary. Every day there is some drama with either Hillary, Bill or her campaign. As much as she may want to focus on the issues they are no match for the Clinton daily soap opera. Just in the last 24 hours we have the Hillary versus Bill Richardson who said Obama couldn't win controversy; clearly Hillary lied again. Hillary's campaign guru Mark Penn, moonlighting on Hillary's time after being paid $10.5M by her campaign. Accepting payment to lobby for legislation benefiting a foreign government which Hillary opposes! And of course the weekly now daily drama of Bill. This time concerning what Bill does for investment banker Ron Burkle on behalf of foreign governments like Saudi Arabia and Dubai; just like the Bushes! If that's not enought we have the Hillary Super Donors attacking Howard Dean and the DNC over the Florida and Michigan situation and the constant use of race by Hillary delegates to further divide the electorate. If Hillary and Bubba can create this much divisiveness
within the Democratic Party thus far will there be anything left of it by the convention? Send the Clintons home. The country can no longer afford them.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:30 AM on 04/05/2008

Now maybe those donors can shut the F up! Ask their state politicians why they allowed to move up their primary election which stated would result in a penalty!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:47 AM on 04/05/2008

Take your money and get on down the road. Whatever you thought you were buying isn't for sale any more. The people have bought the party back.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:35 AM on 04/05/2008

The thing is that they don't even need the money back. They have the money to burn. They used the money to whip up on Obama and the DNC. Now that they have their money back what are they going to do. Obviously the money wasn't donated to the Democratic Party or they would not have wanted their money back. The money was put up to pay for an agenda they wanted promoted. The Democratic Party is now more democratic than it has ever been in the past because it is the little man/woman who is financing the party. It is an interesting turn of events. Who would have "thunk" it?

The party needs to be rebuilt. NO one is talking about it but the party was gutted under Clinton. Sure he had the presidency but he allowed the party to be gutted by the Republicans attacking him over his indiscretions. Now the Clintons want a rerun, but can the country afford it? Can the Democratic Party afford it? Is anyone even asking these questions? Hillary is too comfortable with indiscretions to be good for either.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:12 AM on 04/05/2008

They could use the money to start a 527 group and start showing more clips of Rev. Wright blaming 9/11 on the victims and shouting "God Damn America".

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:09 AM on 04/05/2008

All the candidates AGREED that Florida and Michigan weren't going to seat delegates. They ALL agreed to not campaign, etc. All this after-the-fact crap has to stop.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:32 PM on 04/04/2008

Thats when it didn't matter... now those delegates could change the outcome. is it really fair to ignore two states in a democracy? even if its representative shouldn't those votes count?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:28 AM on 04/05/2008

::Maybe they got wind of the fact that Obama broke the rules and ran ads here on MSNBC & CNN. I don't think its a coincidence they stopped on the day we voted.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:51 PM on 04/04/2008

Obama had national ads with no control over the market. But then, I suppose those those "fund raisers" where HRC gave speeches aren't considered campaigning. Even if she tells her supporters that she is not campaigning but that their votes will count. Funny, the Obama supporters were not told that. And her victory speech in Florida the night of the primary where she again said the same thing. Yeah, that's really equal.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:21 PM on 04/04/2008

give me a break, like Clinton would not have screamed that if it were true, which I am sure it is not.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:18 PM on 04/04/2008

These Hillary donors picked a fight with Dean because she needed a big distraction from the news that her chief campaign strategist is meeting with Colombians on a Free Trade agreement that she says she opposes.

They can keep their money, the White House is no longer for sale!

A bit of maths:

Given:

- Real People fundraising of $40M/month (31 days)
- Sleeping 8hrs/day = 19 hours of fundraising (3 timezones)
- $96 average donation

$45,000 would be donated by 469 real people in 39.8 minutes.

I think most of us would rather wait 40 minutes than be 'pwned' by the Fat Cats

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 09:04 PM on 04/04/2008

While my state legislators prefer to ignore the fact that a major state constitutional revision was on included on our primary ballot, I have not . Our representatives have been playing political football with our votes since 2000, so they'll have to excuse me if I'm finding their concern for their "constituents" to be completely disingenuous.
The fact is, with Florida's economy taking a huge hit as a result of the housing crisis, including an amendment on a ballot offering tax relief to homeowners was likely to result in a higher than normal turnout. This was even more likely bcause Floridians were inundated with commercials, mailers, and posted signs and billboards everywhere telling us we could save on property taxes by voting for the revision.
So, while 1.5 million voters may seem like an impressive number, it doesn't move me when I know many individuals who were NOT affected by the homestead tax exemption chose to opt out of the presidential primaries due to:
1) Florida's dismal record for fair and transparent election processes since at least 2000
2) Repeated emphasis within our state that our state's delegates would not be seated, regardless of whether or not we voted.
I don"t blame either candidate or the DNC for the situation we Floridians find ourselves in. That blame, I place directly at the feet of those in Tallahassee who were supposed to be representing "us" but who chose to put their own political agendas ahead of ours.
KUDOS to Chairman Dean!

Great post FLRhetoric. The recent discourse about Michigan and Florida has been at a seventh grade level. People are talking as if all voters are stupid. I've read other posts like yours that demonstrate that the voters in these states know what is happening and why.

The politicians in Florida and Michigan, who moved the primary dates ahead to gain political leverage, knew what they were doing. They just didn't care about their constituents. If the citizens are upset about the results of their representatives actions, they should demonstrate their dissatisfaction with their votes this November.

All of the democratic presidential candidates (including Hillary) signed off on the DNC ruling that if the dates were moved forward, no delegates from those states would be seated. Now that Hillary is losing, her campaign is acting like the DNC is ruling in favor of the Dred Scott decision.

Frankly this entire episode has been an eye opener. "How the hell did Bush get elected twice?", I kept asking myself. But now it seems very clear to me. These scorched-earth Hillary supporters are not just posting here, on the Taylor Marsh blog and at Hillary-42. They are walking around trumpeting their small minded vindictiveness in the real world. No wonder there are so many Republicans.

Obama sought out the support of the WEATHERMEN TERRORISTS Bernadine Dohrn and William Ayers, who bombed the PENTAGON and NYC Police Headquarters, when he entered politics. Obama joined a Church with a preacher that complains about Greedy White Folks and the bombing of Hiroshima every week, but Obama claims he never heard any of that stuff. Obama tells of sitting in the Pews listening to Rev. Wright giving his "Audacity of Hope" sermon,in which Wright complains about Greedy White Folks and the bombing of Hiroshima. Obama moved to Chicago go learn more about Black Victimhood and because it was the center of radical black groups in this country, even found an America-hating wife too. If Obama is the nominee of the DEMS he will take the Party down.

What is interesting to me is how the national media has been playing this, very much different than what you are now saying. The media (CNN) loves to stir the pot, and will never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Great story in as much as it highlights the new direction the Party seems to be taking. Obama has gotten much of his donations the way politicians should: from regular people. The Democratic Party is has a challenge in front if itself: Will we return to the days of crony politics or move forward with the public wind at our backs. Sadly, the Clinton people have given their answer.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:46 PM on 04/04/2008

Thank goodness the Clintons' campaign had nothing to do with getting these donors to ask for their money back. If they had, you could almost believe that they are doing it to threaten the party into seating the "delegates" from the fake Florida primary. But that would be rank politics and obviously unfair. Wouldn't it?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:32 PM on 04/04/2008

Florida DEMS had RECORD TURNOUT in their Primary, 1,800,000 DEMS VOTED THERE. The State of Florida paid for the Primary, they should set all the rules. When Howard Dean and the DNC start paying for these elections they can start setting the rules. Maybe the DEMS should hold more of those phony caucuses, like the one in Wyoming, they have 60,000 REGISTERED DEMS but only 8,900 voted, let the Zealots rule.
