MSNBC News:

NBC News has learned that in her remarks today, Clinton will call for a cabinet-level "poverty czar," apparently similar to what the King family has been requesting.

Here's an excerpt from Clinton's expected remarks:
"When I say solutions, I mean finally addressing the scourge of poverty that continues to afflict so many of our families in this country. I mean appointing a cabinet level position that will be solely and fully devoted to ending poverty as we know it in America, a position that will focus the attention of our nation on this issue. That's the kind of solution I'm talking about, a solution for which Dr. King's son, Martin, has been such a passionate and effective advocate."

"poverty czar" is a oxymoron. it's kind of like "muslim rabbi". the term "poverty" is politically discredited. "poverty" always means "somebody else" to american ears. as in, "they want to tax me and give my money to rappers to buy jewelry". ... somebody else. ... i hope as well as becoming a giant employment agency, which is what this kind of policy amounts to; they just do the christian thing and give people having trouble some food and shelter to get along with, and some options.

That is absurd. America does MORE globally and locally than ANY other govt. to address poverty. Geez, try reading and learn something.

Did someone wearing a flag pin tell you this?

The US is ranked at the top for child hunger and infant mortality when compared to other western industrialized countries.

try linking your defensive comment about american generosity to anything i said. i am saying that poverty is not a political motivator any more. i'm not saying anything about america doing this or that . poverty as a cause was swept away in the reagan tsunami- that's what i'm referring to. i'm not saying america isn't generous or anything.

I guess having her campaign manager ship more of our jobs to colombia is a good start.

"Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation – one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman’s 17-year career.

Why?

'Because she was a liar,' Zeifman said in an interview last week. 'She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.'"

This is another complete LIE from Obama's camp trying to dis her for all her fantastic work on Watergate by quoting this idiot without even learning the truth, which was ALL were "let go" when it was over, and EVERY SINGLE person she worked with praised her tireless work. I remember her being at the hearing table 24/7. You are foolish to try to discount her incredible experience and her long and admirable work for US citizens AND people around the world. How sad is it that these young people have no respect for honorable and hard won dedicated experience.
Probably because they don't have any, so they don't care if Obama does.

Obama will raise taxes...for those who tax cuts during this administration, and didn't need it. And you know what? He'll lower taxes for those who DO need it.

About his plans, he's said that he supports PAYGO-- you know, paying as you go. Do you really think that Obama is such a complete moron that he'd vomit plan after plan after plan without looking at the cost?

Sorry to break the news, but Obama has LOST any lead he had over Hillary in the polls. He will continue to trend down, especially after people finally get to let their voices be heard by VOTING which they have not been able to do since the Wright story broke and Obama blocked the vote in MI ans FL. She is AHEAD in IN, WV and KY not to mention PA in SPITE of Obama's spending millions and millions of his CORPORATE campaign cash to try to beat her, he is still behind. Wake up Obamabots, your hero is a lying fraud.

Jesus. Can't anyone ever be given credit for a good idea? I'm an Obama supporter and am generally not pleased with Hillary. But this is a good idea. Sure there have been other czars throught the country, but the fact that they may not have been successful could possibly be due to facts beyond that their title is ____ Czar. Maybe a lack of funding for initiatives, perhaps being given a mandate to only act in a limited manner. Any czar would be successful if they were pushing strong policies and were given the backing and resources to achieve their goals. If Hillary, or anyone, appointed a Poverty Czar and gave them full support, that would be a good thing. Judge the idea, not the candidate. The fact that I'm not a Hillary fan doesn't mean that I'm so blind that I'd ignore a wise position just because I'm not a fan of hers and a handful of her supporters annoy me. Just like Obama's speech, you can argue all day about why he gave it, but judge the content of the speech. It was on point on its face. At least Hillary fans should be able to give him credit for that before jumping on his back for being a radical Black Nationalist who will appoint Farakhan as Secretary of Defense.

I'm lukewarm to the idea. I'm not going to attack her for it or doubt her sincerity, but I just have a more pessimistic view of czars. Our history of czars is terrible and so unless I'm given more information beyond what she's given I can't really get excited about it. Knowing who the poverty czar is and what powers they are actually being given is important to me. Although I have a feeling that if she does announce who it is it will be John Edwards.

It’s not a good idea, it’s pandering, and meaningless. It just creates another bureaucracy with no real power – let her tell us how much money she would put behind this “czar”, what specifically he/she would be responsible for different than other cabinet positions, and how she would pay for it, in addition to all the other programs she is advocating.

no one thinks he would name Farakkan as SOD, that is ridiculous. The problem is his belif system being black liberation theology, which is a racist belief system. You can ignore it all you want, but the Republicans won't. They wont ignore his "friendship" with Ayers either. Ayers tried to blow up the Pentagon. How do you think that's gonna fly in the GE in today's world? Ayers was a terrrorist before we even called them that. He was also everything MLK was AGAINST, as was Black Power, the basic tenets of black liberation theology are couched in Black Power.
Your Mr. Race Uniter is a bigot. He calls his white blood "his Mother's race"

Credit for a good idea? I think it's been around for a long time. I have to say the idea still sounds good in theory. As always. If it's genuine and not pandering to get King's Son's support or other crafty, ulturior motives.

But then what does it mean? Poverty czar?

Clinton is euphemistically called as a "policy wonk" and under those red pantsuits of hers beats the slow, dull heart of a burocrat. And burocrats tend to do what burocrats always do. Entrench themselves and breed more Burocrats for the good of the Burocracy. Whether they actually serve becomes irreleven. A whole new Burocracy is added, expands to eat the available resources... and then we still have poverty. Clinton will be long gone to take our thanks. Surprise.

In order to overcome anything, be it poverty or war in Iraq, we need a good leader. Not another burocrat. Clinton might be good at charts and PowerPoint presentations but I can't see her leading. Our major experience of her in the Senate has been on Shumer's lead, but not actually leading herself. Before you say she's done well for NY, after the wave of good-will from 9/11 ANY donkey could have done that. At a time when we could have really used someone to step up and say, "Enough" she was just keeping her head down for a presidential run.

Obama, on the other hand, does lead and leads well. And he's got some good ideas, too.

Wow. Poverty czar? Considering the Czars' penchant for over-the-top luxury, that's THE oxymoron of the campaign. Which Clinton advisor makes this stuff up? Potemkin? I have the perfect candidate, though. Chelsea Clinton. Considering how she managed to land a six-figure job pratically on graduation day, she'd be the perfect Clinton to sole poverty.

Liberalism always generates the exact opposite of it's stated intent.

Democrats, being liberal, have been fighting this "war on poverty" for 40 years and we have just as many poor people as we did back then. So, the fact that Hillary wants to hire a "poverty czar", is par for the course for the failed policies of Liberalism.

Democrats rely on poor people for votes, so why would they want to eliminate them?

Uh, maybe poverty would be even worse had it not been for liberals efforts.

Please don't talk about failed liberalism, rightie. Tell us something about failed conservatism that has kept us dependent on oil, that has mired us in war, that has caused corruption of our financial markets, that has led to huge debt, etc., etc., etc.

How is being dependent on oil a conservative thing? Don't liberals buy gasoline too?

It's liberals (enviromentalists) who want to convince us that oil is a bad thing, when oil, which comes from the earth, is the engine that drives the economies of the world. Liberals and bureaucrats spend their time trying to make it difficult for oil companies to do their jobs providing oil to the market with endless regulations and the blockage of new refineries and exploration.

"Big Oil" provides jobs for thousand of Americans and provides them with pensions and health insurance. It's possible, if you have a 401k, you may have oil company stock in it, which is growing in value, thus helping you for retirement.

You want to blame someone for the high price of gas, look to the enviromentalist, then look to the government, both parties.

What does "Czar" imply anyways? What a stupid point from the Clinton campaign.
