Hillary Clinton Advocates "Poverty Czar"

NBC News has learned that in her remarks today, Clinton will call for a cabinet-level "poverty czar," apparently similar to what the King family has been requesting.

Here's an excerpt from Clinton's expected remarks:
"When I say solutions, I mean finally addressing the scourge of poverty that continues to afflict so many of our families in this country. I mean appointing a cabinet level position that will be solely and fully devoted to ending poverty as we know it in America, a position that will focus the attention of our nation on this issue. That's the kind of solution I'm talking about, a solution for which Dr. King's son, Martin, has been such a passionate and effective advocate."

Didn't GWB appoint a war "czar" recently when he couldn't figure out what else to do? Haven't heard much about that Czar after he was appointed. Is this another one of those ~ A Czar to take over the problem so that the key members of your cabinet don't have to be held accountable to you on that???

While Hillary may be doing this just to attract the Edwards supporters or his endorsement, it does seem likely that he pushed her to do this.
It may not be the best idea, but at least she's moving left instead of right.

They ought to name a "dig a big hole and throw lots of money down it" czar, because I'm pretty sure that's the one "czar" in Washington, DC who would actually be able to do his job.

We already have a Health-care czar, an Aids czar, a Drug czar, a War czar, a Federal Gulf Coast Recover Czar, etc. Do these czars work? We have millions of people without health care or inadequate health care, aids is still a problem, drugs are a bigger problem than ever before, war is still waging with no end in site and the Gulf coast has thousands of people that have not been helped while the big casinos and corporate offices have all been rebuilt.

This looks more like a delegate solicitation promotion for Edwards supporters than it is a real solution to poverty.

Don't forget that Bill Clinton (with Hillary's support) shoved NAFTA down our throats and sent the good, working class jobs overseas. He then sent more jobs overseas to China by giving them most favored trading status and they gave monetary aid for international development to reward those factories that were leaving the US shores. Bill also gave the rich a 15% capital gains tax rate so they'd pay a lower tax rate than the very working people that create the wealth.

We don't need any more Bush-Clinton 1990's policies.

For the most part, the class system in America perpetuates itself. This why Chelsea went to Stanford and was not an Arkanses "Razorback". As the economy falls deeper into recession, the poor (like canaries in a mine) are the first to feel the squeeze. The middle class, lower middle class, the poor, and ultra-poor, and destitute become even poorer. The comfortable middle class, well off, and semi-rich will cut back a bit. The rich, very rich, seriously rich, and filthy rich will all be well and fine. This category always finds ways to make more money as things become more scarce.

In essence, what we are talking about is having a government that cares about "promoting the general welfare of the people". To many, this sounds like a radical idea, unless they're aware of the origins.
In general, our society has become more stratified in recent decades, and things have become much further out of balance. It appears that Americans in general will continue becoming poorer. A Czar or "War on Poverty" perhaps would draw attention to the fact that many in America live very marginal /third world existences. In terms of solutions, I really don't know..., except that as a nation we need to become more humanitarian here and abroad.

The pilot of her airplane has been quoted as saying he would not have landed if there was any danger of sniper fire. He further said that the reason for the fast decent is because the runway is surrounded by hills. There was no evasive action by him as he landed. The nine year old girl who greeted Hillary and handed her flowers is now age 20 and distressed about what to say to reporters. She says it was a high point in her life to be chosen to greet Hillary. There was no danger of sniper fire, yet now a US presidential candidate says she had to duck and run for cover.

I wonder if your reference to Obama's supposed racist beliefs reveals something about yours.
