Hillary Clinton Advocates "Poverty Czar"

NBC News has learned that in her remarks today, Clinton will call for a cabinet-level "poverty czar," apparently similar to what the King family has been requesting.

Here's an excerpt from Clinton's expected remarks:
"When I say solutions, I mean finally addressing the scourge of poverty that continues to afflict so many of our families in this country. I mean appointing a cabinet level position that will be solely and fully devoted to ending poverty as we know it in America, a position that will focus the attention of our nation on this issue. That's the kind of solution I'm talking about, a solution for which Dr. King's son, Martin, has been such a passionate and effective advocate."

OK. She'll get Edwards' endorsement for that. But, it will come at the big cost of creating yet another huge bureaucracy that we would pay for with our tax dollars.

An expensive endorsement, but not for her.

The causes of poverty are so numerous and entrenched, it will take much more than a titular "czar" to uproot it. It will require legislation by Congress to undo GW's damage to the middle class and the poor, rescuing the Katrina, foreclosure, and job-loss victims, too late for many, and enormous strides of liberalism and government intervention beyond what we've ever known to get the job done.

Gimme a break, Hillary. A "poverty-czar"? Your old-style politics doesn't begin to address America's problems.
