1 In 4 Soldiers On Multiple Tours Have Mental Health Problems

Army leaders are expressing increased alarm about the mental health of soldiers who would be sent back to the front again and again under plans that call for troop numbers to be sustained at high levels in Iraq for this year and beyond.

Among combat troops sent to Iraq for the third or fourth time, more than one in four show signs of anxiety, depression or acute stress, according to an official Army survey of soldiers' mental health.

Y'know, that recent 3 trillion dollar Iraq warcost estimate included a line item for the extended cost of treatment for all the damaged soldiers coming out of the war. But I really and truely doubt the government will ever step up to the plate. They won't fund anything near adequate treatment. Like other lost generations, we're guaranteed to see aging damaged Iraq war vets in tattered clothes panhandling for change on the street 30 years from now.

And if the Republicans have their way, the war in Iraq is just starting.

Anybody who's in the military and subject to deployment, can expect to return to Iraq again and again and again as long as they're in the service.
