Barack Obama

Boston Globe:

FOR SUPPORTERS of Senator Hillary Clinton, like me, it's time to get behind her rival, Senator Barack Obama.

The exposure of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.'s outrageous and divisive remarks has injected the raw emotions associated with race relations into the presidential campaign. This new dynamic raises the stakes in an already high-stakes race. Our responsibility as progressive-minded voters is to show Americans a positive alternative to the toxic politics of race. Rallying around Obama now increases our chances of doing just that. Obama has run a positive and inspiring campaign, and has attracted a majority of pledged delegates. It is hard to envision a scenario in which Democratic superdelegates override the will of millions of primary voters and caucus participants. Obama will be the nominee.

You Gotta Be Kidding Me Right , I Am An Obama Supporter & I Am Amazed At This!

You are nuts! You're asking us to support Obama because of the Wright scandal? You blatantly come out and say support Obama because he's black! That, Boston Globe, is racism. I say it again, you are nuts!

Two choices:
Senator Obama--- change from the same old tricks in Washington. An opportunity to unite all Americans and improve our reputation in the world. Concerning Rev. Wright, most Americans believe in fair treatment for all people at all times. They were willing to search out full sermons. The media could not figure out why the pols did not drop significantly after airing those sound bites for 2 weeks. Easy answer: Most Americans are decent, and are not willing to participate in such tactics. One other reason, most Americans learned 40 years ago of the value of having friends, neighbors and family members of different ethnic backgrounds, and are comfortable with those differences. Thank you Dr. King.
Senator Clinton- She should remain in the race. Recent airing of the Andrea Mitchell program and Brian Williams program along with several post on this site and other sites are talking about her involvement with the Fellowship or "Family" since 1992. The Fellowship, with its leader, Douglas E. Coe were aired on the MSNBC site this week, and the contents of the statements made by Coe were alarming. The Fellowship, talk about the their admiration of the skills of Hitler, Lenin and others. See Steven G. Brants article on this site titled, "Hey Hillary, what about the Religious Family you have chosen to be a part of"? Brant talks about Senator Clintons involvement with the Fellowship. I wonder if America is okay with this religious participation. The answer scares me.

Exactly she can run next time after she cleans up her image.
I could have told you that she stood no chance at beating a black man who people still thinks is muslim.

I hope I am reading this editorial wrong. It sounds like Mr Jones is asking Hillary supporters to abandon her and rally behind Obama because he chose Rev Wright as his spiritual mentor and advisor twenty years ago. Because he sat in that church with his wife Michelle and their children and listened to that hate-filled, racist and anti-American speech; we are now being asked to drop our candidate and vote for him? What you are basically saying is that the best reason to support Obama is "white quilt". Sorry, but I was under the impression that neither race nor gender should play any role in my choice of a Democratic nominee and I still believe that. Too bad some of Obama's supporters like you can't get past the race issue Mr. Jones.

Perception is a bitch. You discredit yourself by your ranting about a church that you know NOTHING about except what Faux News tells you. Can you please explain to me Hillary's affiliation with Doug Coe's church, The Fellowship? MSM (MSNBC) played one small segment about this EXTREMELY divisive church and then the story was quickly buried.

Care to elaborate? Thanks in advance! :-)

YES! To me, religion is a non-issue, but Hillary's "prayer group" of "God wants you to have power" (my spin on what it's about) is more troubling than a few words from a man who had a lot of injustice to speak out about.

So, one American gets to tell another what is and what is not Anti-American speech? Or just you get to make that decision? Or maybe Murdoch (he ain't even an American, but gets to tell you to tell us what is and is not Anti-American.)

Agree with you.
Some don't get the idea of a debate.
Presenting opposing arguments with facts to support your position is a debate.
Lies, smear, personal attacks aren't.

I don't mind a debate.

I don't understand why anyone would want the Clintons back in the White House...it's beyond my comprehension. They are LIARS, opprtunists and they have embarrassed us. Between the sex scandals and the impeachemnt and GWB making us look like crap in the eyes of the rest of the world..why would we think that the Clintons can restore our credibility...
Are you peolple nuts????

I guess there are some who didn't get to rent out the Lincoln bedroom the last time.

There are some who will never vote for a black, but they should be republicans anyway, and there are some who want a woman - clearly any woman - as president.

There are also some who remember the prosperity of the 90s - as if Bill was the cause of that - I'd like to point out:
Illegal immigration - what did Bill do? ZERO
The first WTC bombing - what did Bill do? ZERO
The boom of the 90s went bust with the dot-com bust - it was as if the real estate boom w/Bush didn't burst until the next president - Bill was lucky.
He never go 50% of the vote either time - I know, I voted Perot twice.
He passed NAFTA, part of the cause of our departure of jobs.
He LIED - directly to us, and under oath.

Obama has won 7 in a row since all the major networks covered that..

look, Obama is 23 points ahead in North Carolina polls. If he wins NC it is over for Clinton, and many super delegates will not overturn the primary results. You can give up now, or go down fighting; but you will go down.... NO DOUBT ABOUT IT...

(unless Hillary overcomes in NC... remember it is Obama that rises in polls while Hillary falls. This is the 2008 trend. Hillary has never overcome a deficit all primary season, and don't expect her to do so in NC)

The number one reason that he may not be president is because the Clintons have convinced her supporters not to vote for Obama because she and McCain are the only qualified candidates.

Is Hillary still a democrat?

And there is no chance in he!! millions of us would ever vote for that cult GOD. Obama will never be president. Count on it.

Hillary and us are real DEMS. You cult people and your cult GOD are just that a cult. And your delusional if you think real DEMS would ever vote for a cult GOD.

To have not anticipated the problems that the Wright has brought shows a lack of experience, a lack of experience in recognizing a situation in advance - a situation in the making.
To not have tried to change his church shows a character flaw and complacency at worst and a lack of leadership at best.
But most of all I encourage you to start thinking for yourself. The information doesn't need any spin. It doesn't need context. It doesn't need any speech. I am a life-long Democrat at this stuff scares me. Invest a few hours in your family's future and Google Black Liberation Theology & Marxism.

We need to GET REAL PEOPLE!
In case anyone actually wants to do some research on their own instead of reading the biased stuff main stream media is handing you:
Again, from the TUCC web-site: The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC.org) is based upon the systematized liberation theology that started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone"s book, Black Power and Black Theology. Here is a quote from that book "What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love,"
A few other comments from James Cone, a professor at the Union Theological Seminary in New York:
"What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love," Mr. Cone added "Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy."
Are you telling me that Obama didn't know about all this background on his church? You want me to believe that a curious, intelligent man would not have read the books that his mentor, Rev. Wright, had built a church on?

IT APPEARS THAT YOU ARE NOT ONLY TRYING TO PLAY THE RACE CARD, YOU SEEM TO BE TRYING TO PLAY THE WHOLE DAMN DECK, ALL AT ONCE!

I SUGGEST THAT YOU TAKE YOUR DIVISIVENESS SOMEWHERE ELSE. BECAUSE IN CASE YOU DID NOT NOTICE, THOSE OF YOUR ILK (RACE BATERS) ARE NOT WELCOMED HERE. THATS WHY THIS IS KNOWN AS A PROGRESSIVE BLOG NOT A KNUCKLE DRAGER'S BLOG.,WHERE YOU'D PROBABLY BE WELCOMED WITH OPEN ARMS, BUT NOT HERE, BECAUSE MOST OF US HERE ON THIS BLOG, DON'T INTEND ON GOING OUT OF THIS WORLD BACKWARDS FOR BEING RACIST BIGOTS OR MISCREANT CRETINS.:)

And do you really think most Americans are going to put up with you Obama cult people lying about us for four more years????

Every time we speak the truth about your GOD you call us "RACIST BIGOTS OR MISCREANT CRETINS." What hateful things come out when you know Obama will never be president.

Wow! All I've done is asked people to look at TUCC.org and make there own decision as to whether they think Black Liberation Theology fits with their values. I've found that very few people know what it is. I didn't bring up Wright or the videos. I sought information for myself that could not be spun and that didn't need context and I found it on the web-site. I didn't say don't vote for _ _ _ _ _ or you should vote for _ _ _ _ _ . I have enough respect for other Democrats that they can make up their own mind.
Since when is a progressive blog an excuse for ignorance.
I chose this blog because I am a life-long Democrat AND this is where Obama seems to like blog I guess putting up with racist bigots like you will be the price for admitance, but I'm not going anywhere.

These are the Black Value System precepts that this church had on the front page of their web-site until 2 weeks ago. They're still there now but you have to click on a link at the bottom of the "About Us".
If Obama is a fraction of the leader you make him out to be how do you justify that he didn't try to change the church or Rev. Wright? How do you put this divisive, separatist, hateful theology into context? This church is about reaching out to each other - if you are black, it's about taking care of our own. Why didn't he stand before TUCC and say, "folks - We have an imperfect motto at our church" That the motto and the Black Vaue System reflect a time gone by. That the words of the church and it's leaders are "not only wrong but divisive, divisive at a time when we need unity; racially charged at a time when we need to come together to solve a set of monumental problems - two wars, a terrorist threat, a falling economy, a chronic health care crisis and potentially devastating climate change; problems that are neither black or white or Latino or Asian, but rather problems that confront us all." "This belief comes from my unyielding faith in the decency and generosity of the American people. But it also comes from my own American story." Where is that speech????? This man never even tried to affect his own church.

Please do not vote for Obama without at least taking the time to read about Black Liberation Theology and the founder of BLT James Cone. Take 5 minutes and check out Trinty United Church of Christs web-site: TUCC.org

So what, he has run a good campaign. But at what cost? Obama has elevated himself to a standard he has not upheld, presented himself as someone he clearly is not. His language skills are so gifted that if you haven't had some training in logic, rhetoric, "speechifying" it is very difficult to detect the rhetorical tricks, the manipulations and the passive aggressive attacks and evisceration that he and his campaign have played. He has played dirty and has been rewarded generously.

If he wins the nomination I will vote for him. But support him? I won't work for him any longer, I won't donate any longer. Why would I? Why would anyone who believes in fair play and treating people with respect, fairness, decency? Every Clinton supporter on these HP threads has been insulted, abused, attacked, intimidated, condescended to, patronized, demeaned and diminished by this bunch of ignorant sexist, ageist and yes... racist creeps. (you figure out why. I'm done.)
Even Obama supporters who didn't tow the line and hate Hillary were talked down to as if we were just simpletons who haven't come to our senses and seen the big TRUTH about true evil.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:23 AM on 04/06/2008

You are being very short-sighted.

If you think that all Obama suporters can be characterized by a select few mean-spirited bloggers, you are being far too simple-minded. Hillary supporters on these sites are equally as vicious, but that's a minority as well.

Most folks don't even read this stuff. It's just us junkies who need to constantly get new information that read these things. We are the most passionate and unfortunately, a lot of people channel that passion incorrectly by attacking other bloggers who disagree with our side.

You can't condemn an entire campaign based on a few of its supporters.

Furthermore, I hate to break it to you, but all politicians are not who they present themselves to be. Is Hillary genuine? Most certainly would not think so. It's part of being a politician, but I think it is fair to say that Barack is most like who he presents himself to be. I judge him by his actions, and for the most part, he's run a positive campaign.

You see what you want to see. If you choose to focus on the negative aspects of this process then it's your loss. You are missing out on a historic event.

Most of what I've seen is reaction, and defense, not offense.

The Rove tactics of the Clinton campaign is made to divide, and it sure does. If you want to condemn Obama for some of his supporters, does that apply to Ferraro? Penn? Carville?

It was not Obama that dragged this campaign into the gutter.
