Hillary Clinton Asks Obama Pledged Delegates In North Dakota To Switch

Sen. Hillary Clinton made a blunt appeal to North Dakota delegates to switch their support to her, despite the fact that Sen. Barack Obama handily defeated her in the state's caucus in February.

In an indication of how tense the battle has become for each Democratic delegate, Obama abandoned the campaign trail in Pennsylvania and scooted to North Dakota for the state party's annual dinner last night, despite the fact that he's already won 14 of the state's 21 delegates as well as six of the state's seven superdelegates.

She needs to be stopped by the democrat party to prevent her from committing political suicide. She would surely get the pity vote if she got out gracefully, but at this rate she may not be re-elected back to the senate. I honestly think she in so deep, she nor bill know when to quit, and don't count on the supporters to tell her because they're in a state of denial as well. I think this race bound for a train-wreck, but none of the leaders in the democratic party has the ball to reign in Bill or Hillary.

She has no shame, no scrupules, is contradictory, lies and will stoop to anything at this point to try to "win". With all the deception, lies and resulting crises (economic, foreclosures and the war) that we have lived through during the past 8 years, this is the last thing our country needs.

Well now it's official. After insisting that all the votes should count, she is now trying to sway pledged delegates, elected by the people.

And she does this in the caucus state of North Dakota. After repeatedly disparaging the caucus process as undemocratic, she now expects these Obama superdelegates, elected in a caucus, to switch to her? They ought to give her the middle-finger salute instead.

Superdelegates are not elected in a caucus. In fact, caucuses do not elect anybody. They are closed door events held at a set time locking out many real voters who have to work or can't get a sitter at that time or any number of reasons. That's why the numbers at caucuses are generally 90% less than open primaries. And if you think it is proper to give the finger to a sitting US Senator or to anyone for that matter, you are not only clueless, you are classless. Or should I say "A typical Obama supporter".

Hillary must have noticed that over the past 50 days only 6 superdelegates have endorsed her whereas Obama has added 60 superdelegates to his endorsement list. Desperate times, desperate measures?

I would think that at some points the feminists and feminist organizations like Emily's List would repudiate Clinton as being an unworthy representative of American women.

BTW, this action on hillary's part is completely inconsistent with her demand to seat the FL and MI delegations as reflecting the "vote" taken in those states - since that would require the deletages "elected" (in the defective votes held in those two states) to be faithful to the candidates they pledged to support.

Or rather, it is quite consistent with the one principle Hillary holds to - whatever will help her WIN, is good and OK.

I agree. Hillary is a Walking Contradiction because she will do ANYTHING to win including:

* Say and do things her constituents oppose.

* Financially still her most ardent supporters like Ohio and Iowa.

* Pull the Gender Cards despite the fact that true Feminist want her to stand on her merit,

* Behind the scenes she and Ickes are telling the SDs that Obama can't win because he is Black, but fakes emotion during and MLK speech.

* Lies about a host of things like Bosnia, Ireland, Helathcare Story, her position on Iraq, but says, "trust me'".

She really does require counseling.

Amen. Part of Hillary's credibility lapse has been her contradicting messages, like the one above that you pointd out. You can't argue for voters to be counted on one hand, and then ask delegates to forsake the voters on the other.

The one thing that separates Obama from the other two candidates is the fact that he has finer honed INSTINCTS than both of them put together.Obama's early exposure to institutionalized corruption in Indonesia, his subsequent exposure to less than equal treatment of native Hawaiians have given him a vast reservoir of EMPATHY for the underdog.His concern for the working american citizen reveals a "been there, done that"can-do attitude, that has him holding education as the key to a better quality of life ffor those willing to work hard for it.........Clinton and McCain are supremely "experienced" when it comes to political survival: Giving speeches with one eye on the polls..... .....Obama's speech was calling for each individual american to look inward, challenging each one of us to "become the change that we would like to see in the world".....It would appear that the bloggers and talking (MT)heads have taken the speech only to regurgitate over and over ....and over again, as Senator Obama had warned COULD happen....So, why don't we -individually- turn down the volume and look and listen within our own hearts to se where we are on our individual journey to a more perfect union..>?

why vote at all then? If the delegates are given on vote count, and they can do what ever they want anyway, why have the American people get out of bed? Why not let Hillary beg for the delegate to like her more?

Seems kind of a sleazy move on Clinton's part, not that this should be surprising. I've never heard of candidates trying to steal their opponent's delegates before, and I have lived through many campaigns.

Did you say the same thing about the SDs who have switched from Clinton to Obama? You think he didn't go asking for their support, and that he isn't continuing to approach the delegates who have said they support her?

SD's are free to support anyone. Althought they may have pledged to support a candidate, they are free to change their mind as much as they want.

OTOH, delegates elected by the voters in primaries have pledged that if elected they will support the candidate whose name they ran as supporters of. They were ELECTED on the basis that they would support that candidate. For them to the switch is sort of like breaking their promise to the voters who elected them to vote for candidate A or B.

SD's were choen precisely to be free agents that can vote for whomever they wish.

I don't see any record of Obama openly asking those SD to switch over. What is supported by documentation is that the SD switched over because they recognized him as the best candidate.
