The Bush administration plans to announce next week that U.S. soldiers' combat tours will be reduced from 15 months to 12 months in Iraq and Afghanistan beginning later this summer, the Associated Press has learned.

The decision, expected to get final, formal approval in the days ahead, comes as Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, prepares to deliver a progress report to Congress next week on the improved security situation there. He is also expected to make recommendations for future troop levels.

ADMINISTRATION TO GRAB HOMELESS MEN AND WOMEN AND SHIP THEM TO IRAQ IN UNIFORMS SO THEY WON'T HAVE TO HAVE ANY LITTLE YOUNG REPUKLICANTS SERVE IN HARMS WAY.

Were this administration seriously committed to a victory, state clear objectives for success, and had a desire to stabilize the Middle East, he would reinstate the draft, and send our National Guard troops back to the states where they belong. Our troops are exhausted, military capacity is stretched thread bare, and we don't have equipment or manpower in reserve to address any other crisis. Aside from the combat-related deaths, injuries sustained by our troops, lengthy stays, multiple redeployments, are causing many other disabling issues for the military: PTSD, rising substance-abuse, domestic violence, suicides, depression, stomach ailments, rashes and other stress-related disorders.
The second thing the administration should do is to terminate the contracts of the no-bid private firms who have bilked billions, and subverted the military operations there. Blackwater murdered innocent civilians, and the thugs responsible were granted immunity. The ire of Iraqis, having their people killed by Americans, who were exonerated before any inquiry, makes the situation more precarious for our troops. Why do we need to pay mercenaries $300,000/annually (unaccountable) to guard and protect the Green Zone? Why should Halliburton-KBR be allowed to build sub-standard barracks that caused the deaths of 12 servicemen (due to faulty wiring), give our military unfiltered, filthy water, not to mention several of their employees have been engaged in sexual assaults? Why should contractors be allowed to provide untested equipment to our soldiers, who rely upon their armor and equipment to stay alive?

What utter BS. The stupid, simpering simian in the Oval Office is making moonbeam promises for when he's out of office.

This new adjustment will last for three months, then readjust to 18 months.

Is it just me or does the decision to cut tours of duty down to 12 months leave the question of the viability of it to the next administration while making it look like things are getting better for the election cycle. Paranoid? Moi?

Do they expect applause for finally doing what they should have been doing all along?
