Demi

It seems hard to believe, but a self-styled trainer to the stars claims Demi Moore had meaty thighs, Madonna was soft and Naomi Watts was fleshy. Rob Parr, who used to train them, has written a book, "Star Quality," and the NY Post got an early look:

Demi Moore needed some major work to turn herself from a fat-kneed, thunder-thighed girl into a ravishing knockout, according to Robb [sic] Parr, her former personal trainer. In his upcoming exercise book, "Star Quality," Parr writes: "[Demi] lacked a defined waist, carried too much meat on her thighs, and was, by movie-star standards, thick overall. To taper her waist, we decided to accentuate her shoulders, creating a V-shape. We trimmed her thighs, shaving off some of the excess fat from above her knees, and accentuated her butt, further emphasizing her waist." As for Madonna, whom Parr also whipped into shape, "When [she] and I started working together, she was very soft . . ." As for Aussie cutie Naomi Watts, she came to Parr "fleshy, and we needed to trim and tighten so that she would fit the mold of a bikini-clad babe."

According to amazon.com, Star Quality is out in August. The official blurb adds a few more celebs to Parr's (hit?) list.

Rob Parr presents body types based on some of his most famous celebrity clients, so that readers can identify with, aspire to, and work toward a body shape like Madonna's (athletic), Demi Moore's (hourglass), or Naomi Watts's (long and slender)....

Rob Parr (Los Angeles, CA) is a fitness trainer whose clients have included Madonna, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone, Christy Turlington, Naomi Watts, Maria Shriver, and Alicia Silverstone.

No word if any of the called-out beauties still work out with Parr.

Justin Timberlake brought sexy back, Please, can someone bring "fleshy" back?

There is something not-so-remotely robotic looking about the overly-fit female anatomy (and male anatomy as well). For me it all started with Linda Hamilton in the "Terminator II" film. I had read she undertook an arduous six month training program in the martial art krav maga by the elite Israeli special forces branch Mossad. She became rock hard...and not something you'd want to cuddle up against, at least not without protective padding. Madonna, apparently, worked out for six (6) hours per day to get into shape for her last tour. More recently, Christian Bale was asked by NPR's Terry Gross about his training regiment for his first stint as Batman, and related that he did not have the time nor did he want to dedicate the sheer number of hours per day that maintaining such a pneumatic physique required. Even more recently, Demi Moore appeared on David Letterman to promote her latest film (already forgotten) and to my eyes she looked...old? That is, older than she should look. It reminds me of how people who work in health food stores look: unhealthy. I am all for physical fitness, but as the ancient Greeks wisely put it, everything in moderation.

What he says makes sense.

Madonna was a semi-fatty when she did Desperately Seeking Susan and Demi was just a semi-chubby kid when she started out.

That's what working out will do for you...look at them now.

Everyone was a fatty in the 80's by today's standards.

Naomi Watts was at her most beautiful as the sidekick in "Tank Girl", which was when she was "fleshy", I suppose. The same sad transformation has happened to Kate Winslet, Renee Zellweger, Meg Ryan, etc. This seems to be the fate of all female stars in Hollywood; they start off real and sexy, then wind up all hard-bodied and scary. Very sad.

As if they have no say in the matter. Their bodies are their business, so what do you expect?

It's the people who pay to see them I worry about: don't they have more interesting things to do with their time?

I think that the people who pay to see them are all of us, and everyone but you is spending their time putting punctuation into their sentences.

Where did I state they have no say in the matter? Of course they're doing this voluntarily, so they can continue to work. And THAT'S the sad part, that they must do this to continue to work.

Renee Zellweger looked like an alien the other day on Letterman.
Very weird behavior too. Good actress though.
Goes with the territory I suppose

Women are supposed to be fleshy, not stick thin like gay men. Gay men have created "the look" for women in our culture. What do they know about women's biochemistry and anatomy?

this has got to be the dumbest comment i've ever read.

I'm not sure it's the dumbest ever, it has a kernel of truth: turn on any of these shows and you have gay men telling women how to look "fabulous." Maybe someone should do a reality show where straight men make straight women look better...except that it would probably just consist of nurse and schoolgirl uniforms.

And then you have the hipsters who always want magical pixies (see: Garden State) with bodies like 12 year-old boys.

This guy is making these statements about Madonna, Demi and Naomi b/c he knows that the average person is going to think wow look what he did for them, imagine what he's going to do for me. I personally think Madonna looked better before she started working out with him. There is nothing wrong with being soft, as long as you are healthy. I think its a hell of alot better than having the veins popping out of your arms.

He shaped their minds to go have tons of plastic surgery.

Who the hell wants to read a book written by a celebrity trainer? The targeted demographic doesn't even read books in the first place... they're the supermarket tabloid crowd--probably don't even know where the nearest book store is. I hope this thing tanks.

Exactly? Who cares!?!? Thank you for making me LOL I prefer them fleshy as opposed to fat-less and vein-y. Ew.

Knowing that Naomi Watts is "fleshy" makes my existence infinitely more fulfilling than I could imagine. Perhaps I shall buy the book.

What's wrong with him talking about people he's helped get in shape? It just helps to prove the point that celebrities have to work hard at staying in shape too.

This isn't odd to those in the entertainment industry where physical image determines income and plastic surgery is a tax deduction.

you know, there are a lot of men and women who like "soft fleshy" women. Madonna's hardbody is NOT everyone's ideal... especially if you can't afford the plastic surgery to soften up the damage it does to your skin, face and hair.

I absolutely agree. I think that most women who have a very hard and excessively toned body, usually tend to look older. They don't have that extra layer of softness. I have a sister-in law who diets and exercises to excess. She is 40, but she looks 45.

Madonna's hardbody IS the ideal if you want to be able to sing and dance on stage for a couple of hours and not drop dead. She clearly enjoys her career and wants to be able to perform for as long as possible. At least another 10 years with her new contract. That will make 35 years of living your dream! You go girl. And as far as damage to your skin, face and hair, staying out of the sun and healthy eating has really paid off for Madonna and her fans.
