U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has exhibited interest in becoming John McCain's vice presidential running mate, a Republican strategist says.

Dan Senor revealed during Sunday's edition of ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that Rice has been seeking support to be considered for the No. 2 spot on the Republican ticket this fall.

"Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this," Senor said.

Her regular attendance at the Torture Coven meetings along with Cheney and Rumsfeld should put an end to this discussion. With any luck she'll be appearing in front of a tribunal at the Hague, not stomping the country for the #2 spot on the Republican ticket. These neocons never cease to amaze and horrify.

These people really are insane.

Rice as VP choice, steal another General Election and the Neo Cons are all the way in charge for another 4-8+ years. Cynisism aside this is a terrifying prospect. This is bad news in my opinion.

It's not tokenism when we all know that Condi is neither female or black.

Whomever the GOP's VP candidate will be, they will both have the same

Chief of Staff, David Addington, who will read their mail and approve any

speeches either of them makes, while staying in close touch with Darth.

What has Condi accomplished during all this time?? I don't mean personal accomplishments, but political. She is the worst Secretary of State we ever had.

REALLY???

Did she break up with her long-time girlfriend at Stanford?

Have they sold off their jointly-owned home?

Wow! You mean we just might have a Lesbian VP???????????

"Don't ask, don't tell"....oh yeah..."Do as I say, not as I do"....

Oh, boy....will McCain shake her partner's hand or peck her on da cheek?

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Of the hundreds of thousands of persons who meet VP requirements, Condi Rice is last on the list of most voters, especially those who are the 81% recently describing the US as on the 'wrong path.'

Given that Condi has been in W's pocket (no pun intended) for these two terms, Condi is less than qualified by any reasonable criteria. Condi, who lied to Congress and is a failed diplomat, should write her book and practice her scales.

And lawyer up -- these latest revelations about the top-level torture approval meetings she, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and others participated in may make Andrew Sullivan's prediction about war crimes indictments more than wishful thinking.

McCain and Condi together? Wow they will definitely nail down the "Incompetence" Vote.

Please let it be Condi, it will be TOO EASY!

(well it would easy no matter what)

It's funny how the neocons think we give Condi more of a pass then the rest of the architects. While some call McCain a warmongerer he just votes and talks, Condi has real world experience.

Voting is where the real power is. However incompetent Condi may have been in helping to plan the war, you can't accuse her of authorizing the use of force, or authorizing the president to ignore the UN by voting down the Levin Amendment. Ultimately it's congress that's in charge. They're the ones with the real power, even more so than the president who they can impeach if he attempts to abuse his power.

Just out of curiosity...let's say your side loses in November...then what?? Riots, suicide bombers?? How far will the left go to "win"? Just a thought...

Not only is this idea ludicrous, but it makes me wonder if MCain and the GOP aren't trying to send out feelers by releasing this to the media? Anyone else care to comment on this angle?

NU, the timing is weird. Maybe the leak was to distract from our esteemed General's testimony and the heat-up of the war. It would seem very illogical for McCain not to appoint a white male who would appeal to the wingers...could even be a Gary Bauer or one of the fundys; or, Bill Bennett if he lost weight and joined Gamblers Anonymous...

I have a difficult time understanding how Rice could help a Republican ticket. An objective look at her tenure as both National Security Advisor and Secretary of State reveals an anemic performance. As National Security Advisor, Rice allowed herself to be marginalized by Cheney and Rumsfeld and so failed in her deputed role. The National Security Advisor is responsible for synthesizing all intelligence gathered by the various agencies. But, under Rumsfeld and Cheney, alternate intelligence shops were established--shops that simply went around Rice. Her continued relevance--such as it was--was based on a personal relationship with Bush, not any ability as an infighter. As such, her role become little more than loyally confirming Bush's manichean view of good and evil--a simplistic world-view that played easily into the Cheney / Rumsfeld ambitions for Iraq and beyond. As Secretary of State, she has consistently failed to seize opportunities--the comminque from Saudi Arabia crticizing Hezbollah after they breached the Israel / Lebanon border--comes to mind. Indeed, stubbornly refusing to confront Bush's equally stubborn refusal to engage countires like Syria and Iran does not speak to her understanding of the process of diplomacy--just the opposite. Ultimately, Rice's tenure in the White House has witnessed a terrible shift in the American relationship with much of the world. And Rice is responsible for much of this. All this said, why would McCain choose to embrace such an intimate of Bush? Why would voters?

What a dream team that would be, especially considering one liar would be wearing the same pantsuit every day and the other liar would be wearing more stylish attire.

Ok, let's see. Nominate a nearly dead, geriatric, senile war hero. No need to bother making him functionally incompetent (like Reagan it will come with age, as opposed to Bush which came with cowboy boots). McInsane goes kaput. They have Condi. She ignores all the signals (since that's her speciality), and boom! World War III and Armageddon -- just like her good book says.

Its all written you know.

This country is already in a handbasket, and we're half way to hell.

Not surprised. Put Bush's handjob lady a heartbeat away from a 71 year-old Alzheimer's President.... Makes perfect sense if you're into hastening LaHaye's Armageddon.

Before everyone gets too slap happy about a sure fire loss with kindalozza on the repub side, NEVER EVER forget that both 2000 and 2004 elections were granted to someone with tremendous amounts of constroversy about fraud in the elections.
2000 the supreme court stopped the recount before gore would get more votes than w. Result w wins.
2004 massive problems in OHIO that kept many people from voting in the all too narrow time span used to vote in. And any if not all evidence has been conveniently destroyed. Result: no matter how much the majority of people wanted w voted out, he was granted the presidency. And don't forget diebold's head stating that he guaranteed w OHIO.
And what is one thing a lot of people know today, that rice is someone not to be trusted and is actually disliked by many. Where does that put her. Right up there with a chance not just getting old johnny boy elected but by magical apparitions, she becomes president when old johnny boy passes away in offiice from stroke, heart attack or what have you.
This country is run and operated on shady dealings and actions. So beware.

Oh and it's no big secret that Colin Powell is an Obama fan. He was on Tavis Smiley and CNN praising him. He often consults with him and told him about Americas need for diplomacy around the world. Something, George Bush was laughing about when Obama mentioned that in the debates. I suggest some of you do more research on African American blogs, mags, and shows. I would like to see him in his Cabinet.

Yes, it sounds like Hillary Clinton's supporters shouting down her opponents by labeling every single criticism of her as sexist, sexist, sexist. Good point.

Ignoring the fact that this individual is incompetent, arrogant, and a war criminal, I would still love to see the conservative right react to such a nomination. They already hate "moderate" McCain, but throw in a minority, closeted woman? Wow. The mind boggles at what the bible thumping hate mongers would do then...declare official end of times, I guess, but end of times for the Republican Party, for certain.

Rice would be perfect. She isn't given to histrionics of the liberals and yet represents the need right now for a woman and minority candidate for the presidency.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:18 AM on 04/07/2008

This comment is batshit. If you're going to pick a female minority candidate, I recommend finding one who, unlike Condi Rice, is NOT one of the central architects of what will probably 92 years from now still reign as one of the worst debacles of the 21st century. Rice is a liar and a war criminal who will say anything to advance Bush's agenda regardless of the cost, as measured in truth or in human lives. She's a horrible creature who merely happens to have two "X" chromosomes and Black DNA (and I don't think she'll thank you for reminding her of the latter); anyone with any sense will judge her on her actions and decisions, which have nothing to do with her race or gender and everything to do with her misguided quest for power at any cost.

As a feminist, I can not possibly imagine any woman who would want claim her, never mind get excited about any candidacy. She is a complete sell out to everything that she, as demographics would otherwise seem to suggest, should represent the best of. She is as much of a white, male power-grabber as her boss, despite her DNA.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:21 AM on 04/07/2008

Exactly -- I think there was a Dave Chappelle sketch where Black people got to trade away undesirables, and I think Condi was one of the first to go; I would imagine that women would have the same reaction if presented with the opportunity (and while we're loading up that hand truck, let's pop Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham on it as well).

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:41 PM on 04/10/2008

Why do Republicans think Black people are stupid? Are you serious? The Black radio stations, churches, and intellects will have a field day with this. This is SO hilarious. Do you know how hard it was for Barack to get the Black vote? Condaleeza Rice. OK. Pulease. Pathetic.

If a White WASP named Conway Rice had served as secretary of state and made the decisions and taken the actions that Condi Rice did, his record would also be considered absolutely fucking abysmal; this isn't a function of race, but a question of naked fact. Condoleezza Rice could be a bright green transsexual from Saturn -- that has no bearing on her toadyism, dishonesty, and utter lack of competence. Are we to be put in a Hillary Clintonesque situation where making any criticism of a Black woman, no matter how accurate and/or unrelated to her gender and race, renders us racist and sexist? That's a clever, unscrupulous way to slam a lid on critical dialogue, but it doesn't change the fundamental mediocrity of her performance as S. of S.
