UPI:

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has exhibited interest in becoming John McCain's vice presidential running mate, a Republican strategist says.

Dan Senor revealed during Sunday's edition of ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that Rice has been seeking support to be considered for the No. 2 spot on the Republican ticket this fall.

"Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this," Senor said.

I don't know what you all are so happy about.
She totally destroys our "historic nomination." She'll cut into Obama's base, and she will get all those conservative votes as well as she's practically Clarence Thomas in drag.

There is also the fact that she has been a total failure as Secretary of State.

I hope she is not the VP choice for McCain. I can't bear the thought of listening to her bullshit nonstop until the election. This woman talks and talks and talks and says nothing. She will defend the most despicable actions by her boss with just so much blah blah blah.

I think she would make an excellent choice for McCain. I just don't see it happening. The whole meaning of conservative would have to be thrown out. It would make him a progessive conservative, or a forward-backward.
It would also give some of the disenchanted Democrats nowhere to go. If they don't think America is ready for a black president, how could they vote for an old guy who could kick off and leave them with a black woman president? Think of the outrage of all those dixicrats who walked out of the democratic party over civil rights and have been repulicans ever since..it would sink him.
No, it won't happen.

Folks, I hate to tell you this but McCain doesn't want to run away from Bush. The war in Iraq is politically neutral. For all of the anti-war types perusing this site, there are just as many military personnel, military families, and other rational people that believe the war was necessary. (not to mention 73 Senators and 253 House members)

As such, Ms. Rice is not a liability at all. From a political standpoint, she offsets one of the key advantages of either Democratic candidate...their minority status. On top of that, she has real experience and knowledge in foreign affairs.

The real problem that both Democratic candidates have in foreign policy is that the actions of Congress in trying to legislate the war were completely political and utter nonsense. Fair-minded Americans will be reminded of that and the GOP will tie the Democratic candidate to the 58 resolutions to legislate troop withdrawals. Ms. Rice can simply state that she was serving her country to the best of her ability. She has street cred with foreign policy that neither candidate has.

As a McCain despising conservative, I would love to see Ms. Rice as VP.

As an Obama supporting liberal, I'd love it more than you to see her running as McCain's VP.

BTW, I doubt the record 81% of Americans who believe the country is on the wrong track will be as happy about 4 more years of continuing down the same track as you would be.

this is great, because the republicans can use the obama-camp trick, if you don't support condi its because you are a racist AND a sexist. bring it on little barack, while you were in private schools and foreign countries, condi was making it on her own straight out of jim crow alabama.

and of course, the slap in the face to democrats knowing that the republicans are the first party to ever nominate an african american women! way to go lefties hahahahahah

Yet another reason to not back McCain. This woman really knows how to lie. What, exactly has she accomplished with all her high-level, high-media covered talks in the Middle East? I just see her sitting with those leaders, chairs turned 1/4 inward for good composition, smiling and posing for the flashbulbs.

Sorry, if McInsane wants to loose in a hurry he should choose Rice. They will spend a lot of time trying to figure out just exactly what she accomplished of a positive nature in either position. 9/11 happened on her watch but she claims no one could have known except there is that NIE that said Osama determined to Attack US. In her present position she gets ono respect anywhere she goes and is best known for not calling for or helping broker a ceasefire in Israel's attack on Lebenon.

Look to Lieberman who wants this post so bad he'll continue to stick his tongue in McIsane's ear every time he makes a gaff and there will be many. Lieberman is to McCain as Darth is to the shrub!

RUN, CONDI, RUN !!!

This would be the best thing I could imagine, as a Democrat.

1) It gives us an even more direct link to the failed Bush administration, and an opportunity to call her out on all the lies she told and all the corruption she was a part of.

2) Opponents of Obama (or Clinton) will not be able to say that Democrats only support their candidate "because he is black" or "because she is a woman."

Please, McSame, pick Condi !!! I'm begging you.

Hagel? He is every bit as evil as any rethug.

Make him SecDef if utterly necessary, but nothing else.

The man is implicated in electronic voting fraud.

I don't see McCain doing this. He could risk throwing away the vote of racists and sexists across the country, which I believe makes up a nice portion of the GOP base. Especially with Obama as the likely Democratic candidate, it is a big unacknowledged constituency that the GOP has to be counting on showing up at the polls. If McCain does this, however, because he truly believes she is right for the job, I would have to commend him. While I could never agree that Rice is fit for any major public service role, if McCain does and is willing to turn away from the hateful, bigoted GOP voters, it would be respectable, if nothing else.

I don't know, pinksheets. Last I recall, it was the Democratic party that inserted both racism and sexism into the Democratic primary.

Condolezza Rice has been Secretary of State for a long time and there has been nary a mention about her race and gender. She has been the face of the US to the world throughout Bush's presidency. If that isn't a clear demonstration of color-blindness than I don't know what is.

I think when you point that finger at the other side of the aisle, you should recognize that your other fingers are pointing right back at you.

Just to clarify, are you suggesting that those who would have a problem with an African-American or female becoming president, or those who still hold deep racial prejudices tend to be democratic voters?

You can point to the racially divisive and gender-driven controversies in the democratic primary campaign, but can't we say that's simply a result of it being a first of its kind race for the nomination? History is being made, and its not always pretty. Though the GOP has nothing to say since all of its candidates were white males.

Rice for VP could be the bargaining chip to win over the conservative wing of the party without alienating the moderates.

Good choice for the GOP. However, she would be a reminder of everything that went wrong for the past 7 years.

I already have my first question for her in the debate.

Why did you flip flop in how you testified before Congress (along with Powell) and went on a BBC station in early 2001 (pre-911) saying that Iraq was not a threat, and that we pretty much disabled his ability to rebuild his army and to obtain WMD's(not including the ones the Rumsfeld or Cheney sold to him)? And let me guess, you could never have predicted it?

Or

When the Mississippi levees crumble again and the middle of the country is flooding and drowning citizens, are you going to go buy Gucci or Prada boots this time?

i really don't see the GOP putting her in such a position. maybe i'm wrong. if mccain goes out, is the GOP really, really ready for a spouse-less black woman president? really? kind of doubt it.

Perhaps the most fetid idea floated forth since National Security Adviser Rice. What is with the republicans and their incestuous family ties? Maybe they should dig up Strom and make him HUD director.
