David Vitter Car Crash: Watch The Video

Sen. David Vitter has been having a rough week, and it's only Monday. First, he was listed as a potential witness in the trial of former D.C. Madam Deborah Palfrey. Then, he attempted to scoot out of a town hall forum to avoid questions from the press about his alleged relationship with Palfrey's escorts. The Gonzales Weekly Citizen reports:

A car carrying U.S. Sen. David Vitter ran into a No Parking sign in the Gonzales Police Department parking lot Monday morning as the senator was attempting to evade members of the media, including the Gonzales Weekly Citizen, following a Town Hall forum event at Gonzales City Hall.

No one was injured in the incident, but the car - in which Vitter was a passenger - sped away from the scene with visible, but light damage following the wreck.

So let me get this straight. Eliot Spitzer (who I am no fan of, btw) is forced to resign based merely on allegations that he was utlizing prostitutes (he has yet to be charged with any crime, to my knowledge), but this guy, who has admitted to frequenting a whorehouse in New Orleans, is able to keep his Congressional seat? Not only that, but Vitter replaced a Congressman named Livingstone who was forced to resign due to an adultery scandal. Vitter said at the time that Livingstone resigning "makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess" (referring to the Monica Lewinsky scandal). Louisiana politics are murky at best, but this kind of hypocrisy has become all too typical from our elected officials. One set of rules for them, and another set for everyone else. I wonder, if Eliot Spitzer had "asked for and recieved forgiveness from God and his Wife" like Vitter says he did, would the Republicans have threatened to impeach him anyway?

That's your Family Values party in a nutshell, folks. They support Family Values, as long as it isn't their family you're talking about.

I think that Spitzer was a threat to the Repugs and Wall Street. that is probably why they focused on him when they saw the chance to end his career.

Vitter is not a threat to anyone. He's inocuous except for his mouth, which isn't always attached to his brain but he is a one or two issue kind of guy.

So yeah, hypocrisy is a stalwart value of the Repugs and Spitzer took the fall this time. And I'm betting he did pray to God and ask forgiveness from his family. He just didn't make a public spectacle of it.

I would agree, with the exception of hypocritical politicians who make a career out of using their positions to try and legislate other people's sex lives, like Vitter, Spitzer, Foley, Gingrich and Craig, just to name the most recent offenders. When they do that, they're fair game.

It looks to me like the idiot who was driving commited several crimes on government property, at a police station no less, it's caught on tape and nothing about even a ticket. This kind of BS is a big part of the problems our country is experiancing today. If I damaged government property and left without reporting it, video taped or not, there would be a warrant out for my arrest for leaving a crime scene, just like hit and run violations. Justice has become a bad joke in our society, we are prosecuting the wrong people.
