Spike Lee: Hillary And "Massuh" Clinton Would "Lie On A Stack Of Bibles"

Director Spike Lee was asked about his political leanings this season. He had kind words for Sen. Obama, even taking credit for his marriage to Michelle:

I'm riding my man Obama. I think he's a visionary. Actually, Barack told me the first date he took Michelle to was Do the Right Thing. I said, "Thank God I made it. Otherwise you would have taken her to Soul Man. Michelle would have been like, 'What's wrong with this brother?' "

However, Lee attacked the Clintons, calling them liars who drag along black politicians as subservients:

The Clintons, man, they would lie on a stack of Bibles. Snipers? That's not misspeaking; that's some pure bullshit. I voted for Clinton twice, but that's over with. These old black politicians say, "Ooh, Massuh Clinton was good to us, massuh hired a lot of us, massuh was good!" Hoo! Charlie Rangel, David Dinkins--they have to understand this is a new day. People ain't feelin' that stuff. It's like a tide, and the people who get in the way are just gonna get swept out into the ocean.

Actually, bringing up the issue of race and the determinative role it plays in our society is, usually, an attempt to open up a dialogue, whereas, accusing people of Colour of "race-baiting" & "playing the race card" is a way of shutting down dialogue.

Race Theory & Eugenics are pseudo-sciences that were debunked more than a hundred years ago. Unless we talk about that we will never get to a post-racial society. The desire that people have for a colour-blind world isn't going to magically manifest if we close our eyes and pretend that we haven't been raised in a racist society. It will manifest when we exorcise the racism by getting it out into the light of day & examining it (and ourselves), critically, honestly and in the light of facts, modern science and cultural understanding, rather than the stereotypes & learned prejudices that we're navigating with now.

Spike telling it like it is. I think SOME of the black politicians are only supporting Sen. Clinton because of a feeling they owe the Clintons something. In other words, you scratch my back I will scratch yours and to hell with everything else. I respect Gov Bill Richardson for not chaining himself to the Clintons.

But many of the black politicians have said that. I don't mind if they support Clinton because they think she is the better candidate and has better policies. But I really can't handle the idea of owing someone your support.

I for example still have a serious grouse with Andrew Young and statements which were so disrespectful to black women. Hillary still has him in her campaign and she has not rejected or denounced his comments.

and if you are going to say that he is lying, could you kindly back up your statements as Obama supporters do? As a former clinton supporter - I have come to have a profound respect for Obama's base - they do not just throw out accusations and innuendo - they provide links to back up what they say - which has been an education for me -

it does your cause no good to say he lies unless you can substantiate your claims - that's like saying the sky is green - am I supposed to believe you just because you have said it? I think not -

if you clinton supporters want to be taken seriously in your defense of your candidate - stop with the tall tales and race-baiting and provide something more solid - otherwise all you are doing is hurting your cause - you lost me - I wonder how many more voters have switched because of lies and negative campaign tactics?

You are so right! I was never a "Clinton supporter," but I was of the opinion that whoever the Democratic nominee was, I would vote for him or her. And I still will (I think), but the tenor of the race makes keeping that resolution difficult.

How about a movie about how we are all just different characters but all doing the same things. Or one about how ruthless group identity is and how it is not the preferred position to take in life.

I laugh when people say "George Bush hired more blacks than the Clintons". I respond saying "slave masters "hired" blacks too, but it doesn't make them your heroes".

I thought the "Judas" comment aimed at Richardson was weird too considering how many former Clinton aides work for Obama. I wonder what Carville and the rest of the Clinton camp called Rep. John Lewis when he defected to Obama?

What do you mean ".....if he had been white". Of course Richardson is white. He's mainly only Hispanic when he thinks being Hispanic will help him. I've known Richardson since he moved from California to New Mexico (carpetbagger that he is) to run for the office of US Representative. I voted for him that first time. Never after. Richardson ruined Wen Hoe Li's (sp) life with false accustations when he was Secretary of Energy under Clinton. Richardson threatened to sue New Mexico ED (again when he was Secretary of Energy) because the ED insisted that trucks hauling nuclear waste over New Mexico roads had to be safe. Richardson is an opportunist who cares only for Richardson. He has stepped on and over all kinds of New Mexicans in his climb to power. Don't drag him out as a poor, oppressed minority. He ain't.

OMG. Spike is as straight up as anyone can be about the Clintons. The notion that the Black community or Bill Richardson somehow OWE the Clintons their support is perposterous. The Clinton's have thrown so many loyal supporters under the bus to achieve other aims. Hillary is running for "AMERICA'S NEXT TOP LIAR." Nearly everything that comes out of Hillary's mouth is a total load of bullshit. The mainstream media in this country should be all over this. It is not a "misstatement" when you LIE repeatedly about the same issues, only to sort of come clean when you are caught. Hillary should go TRIANGULATE herself and spare us all.
