I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Ryan Crocker

Earlier this morning, Ambassador Ryan Crocker and Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) took time out from the rigors of their Iraq War hearings to play a little game of patty-cake over how well the Iraqi government has been meeting their benchmarks. Cornyn asserted - with Crocker's agreement - that the Iraqis had successfully met 12 of the 18 stipulated benchmarks. As it turns out, Crocker was off by nine. In the wrong direction.

According to John Podesta, Ray Takeyh and Lawrence J. Korb, writing for the Washington Post, February 26, 2008 represents the high water mark of benchmark-meeting, with a paltry four out of eighteen figure. And, courtesy of the Democratic Caucus's Senate Journal, every bit of partial success seems to come with an equally nagging caveat:

  • The so-called de-Baathification law confuses many Iraqis, and, in the opinion of Michael O'Hanlon, "may do more harm than good."
  • The Provincial Powers Law is being oversold as a passed benchmark, but the hurdle will not be cleared until "electoral law must be passed and elections held."
  • Petraeus himself admitted less than a month ago that "Iraqi leaders have failed to take advantage of a reduction in violence to make adequate progress toward resolving their political differences."

    • Of course, obfuscating the Iraqis inability to meet these benchmarks has become something of a hobby for the administration. Back in August of 2007, the Government Accountability Office was so worried that the White House would "water down" the pessimistic conclusions of their report on the benchmarks that the draft report was leaked in advance to the Washington Post.

"According to John Podesta,..."

Say no more.

12 is correct ... It's undeniable.

Mr. Hyde, what are the benchmarks and which ones have been met?

It's time for the adults to take over this prcess and stop listening to the childish chicken-hawk worshippers of Sergant Rock. It's obvious from Petreaeus's testimony that every single life and limb lost is a waste and that every day we have any troops or contractors in Iraq is harmful to US interests and helpful to the interests of Iran.

The only thing left to do after listening to Petraeus and the lies of those who lied us into the war and their subsequent predictions for why we must stay in Iraq is just get out.

This is not complicated. If you want to get out -- and I mean all troops and contractors -- you get out. You put together a plan so that our troops are safe while they're rapidly exiting and exit -- now -- and you make the contractors get out too.

It's the only way -- immediate, safe withdrawal.

It's time to stop listening to the childish chicken-hawk worshippers of Sergeant Rock coming up with ever more stupid, dishonest reasons to remain in Iraq and make the pols get our troops and contractors out of there now -- safe and sound. The next Petraeus testimony, in say the beginning of June, should be about how efficient we were in getting all of our troops and contractors out of Iraq.

Why does anyone even listen to these social and intellectual misfits, criminals, murderers and thieves? JUST BRING THE DAMN TROOPS HOME ALREADY.

The term "de-Baathification" did it for me. This government is assisting in the virtual elimination of social castes that have existed in the Middle East for thousands of years. It is not just about a new government; it is about a new social strata. This is interference far beyond the dictates of American policies. Since when do Bush and Cheney have the right to rebuild a society according to their preferences? Where is Congress to stop this unconstitutional, inhumane insanity?

Sen. Boxer is one of the few people who confronted them directly on the lies. It's shameful that most politicians just dance around reality. There is a way to be respectful, yet pointed.

Unfortunately, her point was dismissed with the response "that Cheney got a kiss too".

Iraq's President can freely walk around without fear of attack..and GWBush and Darth Cheney have to sneak-in under the cover of darkness with unprecedented military escort...........

Doesn't matter how you frame it, Iran is the winner. GWBush accomplished for the Iranians what they could not do in eight-year war with Iraq.

Thanks GWBush - mission accomplished!

In the U.S., Bushs actions would be considered treason....so when does impeachment proceeding being? War crimes?

signed - Pres. Ahmadinejad

What else can we expect from somebody aptly named "Crocker?"

Government two of eight met
Security one of eight met
Economic zero of two met
There, two plus one, plus zero, that equals twelve in the Bush world. Crocker has said so and it must be true. That should silence critics and hearten fellow crusaders. What's wrong with those carping Libs, can't they add? That's what makes NCLB arithmetic so special.

You'd be nervously overstating things too if Raisa Gorbachev was sitting behind you at a Senate Armed Services hearing.

Is anyone surprised that Cornyn and Crocker lied? We Texans have known far too long that Cornyn is nothing but a paid shill for Bush. When will Texans realize that they've been taken for a ride with their blind support of the Republicans?

(answer: as long as the lobbyists for the coal plants and the insurance companies run the state)

Cornyn is bush licking moron who needs to be removed from office for the benefit of the people of our nation. His latest "guest editorial" in our local paper was in defense of tax cuts for the wealthy.. he is an embarrassment and a detriment to any community he purports to represent.

It's a fair bet that "Crocker" is but a nickname he earned dues to his every utterance being a "crock of sh*t". This man has proven himself quite willing to venture way out onto the most fragile limbs of the absurd, in order to carry water for his masters.
