Congress got about an hour into their tete-a-tete with General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker before the fragile peace was punctuated by a protester in the hearing room. A man interrupted a line of questioning between Petraeus and Senator Carl Levin, resolutely repeating the chant, "Bring them home," as some audience members clapped. "I'm afraid we're going to have to ask him to leave," Levin said. The proceedings paused long enough for security to toss the protester.

[WATCH.]

One could understand the man's frustration, as the questioning had devolved to the point where Petraeus was trying to explain the difference between a "period of evaluation" and a "period of assessment," and doing his best to stonewall the Senator as to the appropriate length of each period.

I'll say it again. That protester's few words have resonated in my brain all day. Its not as easy as "yes we can". Its "Bring them Home". He said it so well. To exploit a volunteer army to this point is ugly. We need to get out of there. We had no business going in. I understand we need to leave with a plan of action and to stay under diplomatic and possibly under UN control but not like it is now. What we are doing now is insane.
