Tom Cruise's World War II thriller "Valkyrie" has pushed back its release date to 2009, the second postponement for a production that has endured its share of headaches.

The MGM release has been moved from October 3 to February 13, coinciding with the U.S. Presidents Day holiday weekend. Last December, it was pulled from its original July 4 holiday weekend berth where it would have competed with the Angelina Jolie thriller "Wanted."

"When an opening became available for President's Day Weekend, we seized the opportunity," said MGM distribution president Clark Woods, referring to Universal's recent decision to pull "The Wolf Man" out of that slot and into April 3.

"Valkyrie" is the true story of a German officer, played by Cruise, who tried to assassinate Hitler. The German government initially banned the production from shooting on location at the Berlin site where the plot was hatched and the conspirators executed. It later changed its mind after months of national debate that focused in part on Cruise's Scientology beliefs.

Both delays are trouble. Tom's Nazi movie and Boeing's Dreamliner.

Hey, he should hook up with that Max Mosely Formula One guy with the Nazi Orgy fetish. Might be cheaper than trying to make a movie. Wonder if Katie would go along with it? I'll bet she would, now that she's a Scientology Stepford Wife, poor dear.

As far as I'm concerned Tom jumped the shark when he jumped on the couch. When actor's personal actions become repugnant to me it affects how I feel about their films. I already won't watch a Mel Gibson movie, and Tom has joined him on the "no watch" list.

I saw the Nazi uniform and thought they were filming "The Dick Cheney Story".

How many couches does he jump up and down on in this movie? Does he audit the treason out of the rest of the Germans? Will there be any Xenu sightings, or lawsuits? Will Tom change prozac into Niacin? Tune in and find out!!

I love a good comedy - and when I saw "Interview With a Vampire" - I laughed from one end of it to the other. But I think I'd bust a gut if I tried to see this one - I'll have to pass.

Trittydi, that was the only movie in which I thought Pitt & Cruise were attractive. Its all a matter of style.

The film is obviously testing really, really badly. So the producers keep shoving it back in the hope that it will debut against weaker contenders. Frankly, the storyline is a hard one to sell, and having Tom Cruise in the lead is probably making it a lot harder because I think he creeped the shit out of a lot of people over the past two years. A negative visceral reaction to Tom Cruise is a hell of a lot more common than it was two, five, 10, or 20 years ago.

The Problem is, Tom Cruise haters are just jealous of his intelligence, fame, fortune and his acting skills.
How many times has he been nominated for Academy Awards? He has been nominated for 3 Academy Awards, he has won 3 Golden Globe awards.

His movies have earned Billions of dollars world wide. As an actor he has the right to try different roles. He can't be doing the same kind of movies all the time, no actor wants to. I agree the trailer doesn't look good. So what !! The movie will probably flop. Do you guys know any actor who never had a flop? Get a life !!

A 12-year-old girl once won an Academy Award. Name another profession that gives its highest honor to children.

If Tommy-boy is so intelligent, why then is he a member of a brainwashing cult?

$cientology is a scam designed from the ground up to separate the gullible from their money.

It's really that simple.

Why does Tom Cruise posing as a Nazi seem so right?

Sorry, I don't like his personality.

I don't because he's a scientologist?

I believe PaleMail has hit the mark! If the film had tested boffo with focus groups, they would be shoving into theaters as soon as possible! I'm a huge fan of WW II films and this just seems,at least from the trailer a bit off,and it's Cruise's performance! Jimmy Stewart never played a Gladiator and he was America's favorite actor! Even the great Spencer Tracey knew what he could play and what he could not! Just don't try something for it's own sake...If you don't have the "chops" for it walk away!

Couldn't even watch the entire clip. Cruise should stick to movies where he doesn't have to talk or stand close to normal sized people.

Oddly enough, what I was able to watch of the clip reminded me more of "Starship Troopers" than a serious movie. The Neil Patrick Harris character in particular comes in mind when I saw Cruise, except Harris, I believe, was aware that he wasn't in a serious movie.

Dunno. He's pretty good at playing creepy with moral ambiguities - remember Magnolia? And Von Stauffenberg's heroism was ambiguous at best. Sure it took guts to do what he did, but the guy was also a very committed nazi until at least 1943, which is pretty much the time when anyone endowed with objectivity and reason had to realise the war was already lost for Germany. Hannah Arendt says in The Origins of Totalitarianism that the july the 20th coup was made by men desperate to get rid of Hitler and seek any kind of compromise with the Allies. In short, they knew they were losing and wanted a comfortable way out. Had they really abhorred nazi policies, they would have acted sooner, or at least not push for a successful military career implementing said policies. IMHO the reason why this guy was made a hero was because post-war Germany was desperate for one, for any shred of light in the ocean of darkness that was nazism.

I don't find him believable as a Nazi. You can't be a member of two cults at once.

haha yes, I was thinking the same thing, but w/out the joke. He's just not the actor for it. The role is for an actor who can play a German aristocratic fascist (lets not have too many illusions about this officer) living in the 1940's...not some California preppy Cir. 1981 (the guy is stuck, lets face it). I don't personally care what his religious beliefs are (its all smoke & mirrors to me mate, which ever cult/religion you're in) But I do find actors who cannot act very tedious. Too bad, were it not that its a Hollywood prod. and this unfortunate choice for lead, I might even have considered it worth a watch...
