For the third time in two weeks, Chelsea Clinton has been asked about Monica Lewinsky while campaiging for her mother. The question seems to be gaining popularity among college kids who either want to get a rise out of Clinton or are looking for the same kind of attention lavished on Evan Strange, the Butler University student, who first brought up the sore subject.
Read about what happened on Monday:

Many in the crowd at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., booed Monday when a question about the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton came up. Chelsea Clinton quickly summed up her position: "If that's what you want to vote on, that's what you should vote on. But I think there are other people (who are) going to vote on things like health care and economics," she said.

Amanda Morris, president of Purdue's Students for Hillary chapter, said Tuesday that she approved of the audience reaction and how Clinton is responding. She also expects the question might keep coming up.

Watch Chelsea get asked about Lewinsky during a campus visit on March, 31.

Color me confused. What does the Lewinsky thing have to do with Chelsea- and vice versa? She was what, 12 at the time? Why should she be called upon to comment about it??

because kids want to know what she thinks about it!

this is the same demographic that watchs "Big Brother," "the Real World: etc.

that's how their minds work...

The Real World has been around for about as long as these college kids have been alive, it's not exactly a demographic defining show. In fact, I'd say many of these kids have finer tastes than the generation that prompted this period of banal entertainment.

Well, we know that her mother and father both lie to the press and the voters, it would be good to know if they lie to their daughter as well.

So what were they expecting ? Clinton only got elected to the Senate as a sympathy Vote. People voted for her not because she was a great statesman but because they felt sorry for her having to go through the Lewinsky fiasco.

I was wondering what kind of answer were they expecting?
Chelsea just make a blog with FAQ's and they say 'read my blog'.

Were they expecting some porno laced response
'like Dad made me and mom watch as Monica did it on the presidential desk and yes we LIKED it and we made it a 4 way. and we did it weekly on every piece of furniture in the White House, later when he left office and I started hanging around with celebutantes we took many opportunities to have Paris and Lindsey and the Kardashian girls join in'. video is here (give link).

I want everyone to stop and ask themselves this question.

Why is Chelsea never questioned about her lie about Bosnia, which commensurates with Hillary's lie?

Why is this the only controversial question Chelsea is ask?

Methinks that it is a Hillary plant. And the Hillary campaign staff won't let anyone in to ask a question other than one that is pre-planned.

I'm not a fan of either Senator Clinton or Senator Obama (and the less said about Senator McCain, the better), but Bill Clinton's affair was years ago and has nothing whatsoever to do with anything that's going on now. The only thing worse than keeping this non-issue alive is the stupidity that leads some to assume that a daughter should have to answer for things her father did when she was in her early teens. Disgusting!

Those who cling too tenaciously to the past are doomed to be mowed down by the future.

None of the Above '08!

You are so wrong about it having nothing to do with the present; on the contrary the lying, covering up, and backroom political dealing that we saw from the Clintons (Bill and Hillary, who orchestrated a payoff to make one accuser go away) are exactly the same kind of ethically challenged methods to gaining power we are seeing in her campaign today, and based on the same kind of totally ego-driven lust for power that fuels them both. From the film I saw about Monica she actually seemed like a good-hearted young lady who just gt caught up in the vortex of an unprincipled sleazebag and his equally unprincipled wife who will do and say anything to gain power and money.

For sure, all the "good-hearted young ladies" I know have affairs with their married college professors and then flash their thong at the married President.

smzzzz:

Yeah, that's what politicians do. Clinton and Obama are ruthless, self-important politicians. That's what it takes to be President of the United States. You don't actually believe that Barack Obama doesn't have a few skeletons in his closet, do you? Do you think that the Chicago Democratic Party machine that produced him is brimming over with ethics, morality, and selfless altruism? What makes you think he's so above reproach? The fact that he looks good on TV? Should the public's nosiness about the Clintons' marriage extend into a curiosity about the Obamas' marriage? I say that none of any of that is anyone's business. Period. What do you say?

What matters is what the Supreme Court will look like in two or three years, and, as much as I distrust both Senators Clinton and Obama, I would rather have EITHER of them make that decision than to see it left up to McCain.

So you can either start thinking about the future or you can join the ditto-heads in obsessing (to the point of phobia and paranoia) on the Clintons' past.

Actually, when the question was forced posed to Chelsea, it was in the context of whether Bill's impeachment and the scandal would have affect Hillary's electability. That is an incredibly valid question that everyone is entitled to ask and to hear an answer to, especially from a person who may have been the MOST affected person by that scandal. Chelsea's equivocations and animosity demonstrate just how much trouble Bill caused his family, and it's instructive that she can't seem to formulate a cogent response to the inquiry. The reason? Well, it's hard to spin Bill's transgressions as being a positive thing for Hillary's campaign.

No, it was in the context of perpetuating the media feeding frenzy by bringing up something that we should have moved beynd years and years ago.

The Republicans have gone out of their way to foster devisieveness and animosity among Democrats this year, and I must say, they've done a heck of a job at it.

Impeachment, lying under oath, disbarment all deserve to be answered since we all know that should Hillary win we also get Bill. If Chelsea can't answer these questions along with NAFTA and staff, Bosnia (she was there), Drug Companies as large contributors as conflict of interest re. Health Care, and can only recite talking points then perhaps she should not be on the campaign trail. She is after all a hedge fund mavin , a recipient of the Clinton influence peddling fortune ,and is no longer a child.

Seeing as how many Obama supporters here think these questions are acceptable, might I recommend that we show up at campaign appearances by Barack's sister Maya Soetoro-Ng and ask her to talk about Barack's drug use as a youth, his involvement with Rev. Wright, his opinions of "typical white people" and so on.

I'm an Obama supporter and I don't find the question acceptable when directed at Chelsea. You could direct the question to Wolfson in regards to electability and republican attacks but I don't think it's appropriate to ask Chelsea nor would she have anything worthwhile to say even if she did answer the tasteless question. It's at best a strategy question and at worst a ploy to get your name in the paper or tabloid.

I have mixed feelings. It IS rude to ask a daughter such questions. But it is even more rude for a father AND mother to betray the trust of people who voted for the father twice for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. . Both Bill and Hillary gave the far right plenty of fodder to almost bring down our duly-elected government.. And the Clintons did it for arbitrary and narcissistic reasons...Bill because he is basically a 15-year old boy at heart and Hillary (lied) about the philandering too--blamed it all on the "right wing plot, because she didn't want to give up HER political ambitions.

Besides that, HIllary has declared her daughter to be off-limits to reporters even though she sends Chelsea out on the stump. So there WILL be a temptation to get around what is seen as a repressive, self-serving rule, and try to squeeze in a REAL question or two..

Chelsea offers to answer questions, so she ought try to answer them. Why not say (eg) "I was disappointed in dad's behavior, but AS FAR AS I KNOW, that stuff is in the past."

As with everything, the Clintons want it both ways....they want to be seen as forthcoming but only about GOOD STUFF. They should have thought about that before engaging in BAD STUFF ( Bill's philandering and both lying about it....that is bad stuff) . If Chelsea can't handle questions on the stump, keep her at home.

Hmm. Not necessarily a bad idea. She seems like an honest, unscripted person who would tell the truth without embellishment or apology. Of course, she and her brother spent a fair bit of time apart as children, so she might not have as many stories to tell as Chelsea, who was frequently included in her mother's trips as First Lady.

Why be so protective of adult campaign surrogates? Does anyone really believe that the GOP won't go after them with any & every nasty accusation they can dredge up, true or not? If anything, these questions are a pale shadow of what's to come & could be used as practice for handling BS in real-time. Look at the insults & slurs the Clinton women keep getting about their looks & appearance from posters on HuffPo (not exactly the Limbaugh message board).

Overall, I think Chelsea has done a pretty good job of ju-jitsu with these questions. I'd prefer she give more concrete answers, but she's shown a politician's knack for turning things around to the questioner. She's a wealthy adult who doesn't appear to need the censorious protection of her mother's supporters.

Don't hate the game, hate the player. It's not the people asking the questions Little Clinton should have an issue with but her child like father who couldn't keep it in his pants. He brought the shame on her. Don't go to an open forum and expect people not to ask the question. By the way, how old is Little Clinton. People are still treating her like a child. Just answer the questions.
