Chelsea Clinton Asked About Monica Lewinsky Yet Again

For the third time in two weeks, Chelsea Clinton has been asked about Monica Lewinsky while campaiging for her mother. The question seems to be gaining popularity among college kids who either want to get a rise out of Clinton or are looking for the same kind of attention lavished on Evan Strange, the Butler University student, who first brought up the sore subject.

Many in the crowd at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., booed Monday when a question about the impeachment proceedings against President Clinton came up. Chelsea Clinton quickly summed up her position: "If that's what you want to vote on, that's what you should vote on. But I think there are other people (who are) going to vote on things like health care and economics," she said.

Amanda Morris, president of Purdue's Students for Hillary chapter, said Tuesday that she approved of the audience reaction and how Clinton is responding. She also expects the question might keep coming up.

No, I don't think the Lewinski incident has any effect on my mother's crediblility or electability at all.

All couples have different ways for handling their own personal crisis in their own marriages. There is no one right way to handle marital issues that applies to all couples. The women's movement SHOULD have taught us by now that each woman has a RIGHT and a responsibility to handle her own marriage in the way that is best for her without having to deal with second guessing from outsiders who are not aware of the details of a relationship.

Further, my parents and I have never discussed the details of this as I would bet most parents don't discuss the personal details of their marriages with their children. So, I can't offer you any further insight into this matter.

I'd love to hear any of the Clintons give a feminist response & it would be great to hear that the values Chelsea learned from her mother weren't limited to making tons of money & protecting one's public image & career at any cost. For me, that's the real undercurrent to this, since I've seen ample evidence that Senator Clinton's feminism is as dispensable for her as progressive values.

True. He was disappointing, but we all voted for him knowing a little about his history with Jennifer Flowers and rumors of more women. No one should have been surprised.

My problem is this all seems so sophomoric. These guys are all type-a personalities who have to win at everything, politics, women, sex, money, etc. So why are we so surprised when they are unfaithful to their wives? Their wives seem to have had an inkling of what they were getting involved in, and went along for various reasons.

Any question about her father's impeachment and the possible stain (cough) that brings to Sen. Clinton's electability is quite germaine. As a paid representative of the Clinton campaign, the more she plays the pity card, the less respect the voters will have for both her and Sen. Clinton. In fact, the more the question is avoided, as we see, the more the question will be asked. Are the Clintons really pretending that this issue is completely dead? This isn't a matter of "hard ball" or "tough crowd" -- it is also simply a fact that some voters need to have their fears about Pres. Clinton's scandal and Sen. Clinton's reaction put to rest.
