During the early stages of the primary season, none of the candidates seemed to enjoy his turn in the spotlight more than former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. And from the looks of things, it appear as if the Huck has no plans to quit the scene anytime soon. Over at his eponymous website, a mysterious countdown clock has gone up, promising something, "Coming Soon."

What does Huckabee have up his sleeve? A third party run? A Veep announcement? Plans for a Cloverfield sequel? We are left to speculate. Last week, at a gathering of Christian conservatives in New Orleans, Paul Weyrich delivered a speech in which he expressed regret for not supporting Huckabee's candidacy: "He agreed with Farris that many conservative leaders had blown it. By chasing other candidates with greater visibility, they failed to see what many of their supporters in the trenches saw clearly: Huckabee was their guy." That indicates that a sizable portion of the electorate might line up behind an independent Huckabee.

But Huckabee had a hard enough time raising coin back when he was the GOP frontrunner, and he's never indicated that he might attempt a third-party run. By his own admission, he makes most of his money on the road, making speeches. But that doesn't mean this secret announcement has nothing to do with the ongoing Republican campaign. As Arkansas' Pine Bluff Commercial has noted, the website's current content bears a passing resemblance to the aesthetics of the McCain website. As the Commercial notes, though, "Huckabee has said he is not likely to appear on the party's ticket this fall."

The clock is scheduled to hit zero at noon on April 15th, so maybe it's just a general reminder to America to get their federal tax returns in the mail. It could also be a reminder to America to wish my sister a happy birthday. We just don't know. Huckabee will be in Ithaca, New York that day, to deliver a speech at Cornell titled, "In God We Trust: The Role of Faith in Politics."

Mike Huckabee defended Reverend Wright at the height of the controversy. Whatever it is he wants to announce, I wish him the best of luck with it.

Please, let it be the Rapture,at least the part where all the cultists are taken away from the rest of us sinners. Then maybe we can get some constuctive stuff done and start treating each other as equals rather than as the "chosen" and the rabble.

Stupidme, maybe think a little more before making mindless posts.

Huckabee would be the Dems worst nightmare if he was VP. Great talker and can deliver the evangelical vote in South and Midwest, and Mountain States. He has great network of pastors and followers are devoted to cause like Obamas people. Talk Radio hates Huckabee because he actually is compassionate on poverty, immigration and Africa. Issues McCain and Huckabee can reach over the aisles. Haters like Glenn Beck, Laura Ingraham, Michelle Malkin, and Ann Coulter cant stand a Christian working to solve problems without thier "hate" injected. He did raise taxes in Arkansas and Hard Right cant stand that. Would be able to challenge Obama "change" mantra more than anyone. McCain will pick Romney and guarantee Obama victory.

I agree with everything you said other than your premise. Right-wing radio and the Malkin-Coulter contingent hate Huckabee, that's for sure. What I don't get is how you think that makes the Huckster the Dems' worst nightmare. McCain beat him by a ratio of 5:1. Even Romney, who dropped out of the race a month before Huckabee, beat him by a few delegates. And that's in a party where Romney and McCain aren't well-loved by conservatives, either. No, Obama has nothing to fear from John McCain, Mike Huckabee, or both of them put together.

He just read Christopher Hitchens book and is renouncing religion?
He just read the constitution and wants to apologize?
He is coming out of the closet?
He just spent his last campaign donation on a Spitzer weekend?
He is announcing his pick for American Idol?
He is giving up the guitar?
He found out that Chuck Norris was wearing a wig?

Chris Matthews is interviewing John McCain on the "Hardball College Tour" April 15th.

http://hardblogger.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/03/17/776576.aspx

McCain is going to announce that Huckabee is his choice for VP while he's in front of a college crowd to take advantage of the free publicity and the chit he will earn from Chris for doing it on his show. Chris will brag about it for weeks and possibly even take some of the edge off his latest attacks on his "100 years" comments.

McCain will probably bring Mike along to the interview just to interfere with the college kids question time. McCain got hammered the last time he was on the tour, and had to reverse an answer after a commercial. (and as we've all noticed, he hasn't gotten any younger, since then)

Villanova is the oldest and largest Catholic university in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Obama kids are going to put him on the rack (Torquemada) about Iraq. They're the ones who will be spending their and their children's lives serving out the Bush-McCain "100 year" foreign policy folly.
