My husband and I enjoy Monk so much, and Kamel's portrayal has always been a highlight for us...we both worked in psychiatry research for a good part of our careers, and while we had met REAL psychiatrists as nice and as competent as the one Kamel portrayed, we didn't meet very many of them. Perhaps the ones with horrendous bedside manners are the ones who get forced into research????

I remember him from years ago when my kids were very small and Kamel was on Days of Our Lives One of my ugly little secrets, one of the minor league ones, is that I watched two soap operas then, DOL and the wonderful "Another World" back when its cast consisted of wonderful Broadway actors. That had to stop when l my oldest child at age two said "No more bad stories" when I tried to explain that the people screaming and sobbing weren't really crying and fighting...that it was only pretend and that it was "only a story."

Bon voyage, Mr. Kamel. We will miss you.

Don't be embarrassed. I became hooked on the ABC soaps when my daughter was a newborn. It is over 7 years later, and I still love them. Its pathetic I know, but every once in awhile you come across some great stage actors!

Please don't be embarrassed by acknowledging that you are a fan of writing for daytime television. I am a Y and R fan from way back and proud of it. God bless Mr. Kamel. His work will be missed as will he.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

This is terrible, terrible news.

I hope the good man passed in peace, and without pain. If the actor himself exhibited even half of the empathy and kindness that he showed in his role on Monk, I'm sure he was a blessing to all of those around him.

It was murder. Get Monk on the case right away! But make sure he washes his hands.

I never miss an episode of Monk, and Mr. Kamel was not only great, but perfect for the part he played on it. It's a testement to how good an actor he was that we will be so sorely missed- you really liked this guy- I'd pay him to listen to me, too.

Wow, 120 film credits since 1969: this cat was a journeyman. His most distinctive physical features were those pale blue eyes and full lips -- he looked quite a bit like pre-fat Billy Joel. Usually played stoolies, sleazeballs, and other type characters you did not want for a son-in-law. Got more respectable with age, kept his looks & bod in shape.

Monk is my favorite show, and Stanley Kamel's psychiatrist played so well to Monk. I've been a fan of Stanley's over many years. This is a loss at such a young age. My condolences to all his family and friends.

That was what was so great about him as a character actor, he was vaguely familiar. He moved effortlessly from part to part.

Allan Arbus was the shrink on M*A*S*H that I remember. His name was Sidney; Hawkeye was always conferring with him.

Actually, Arbus would be a great choice as a new Dr. Kroger if they choose to continue the character and just pretend there is no change in actors. Other shows have done it.
