WASHINGTON — Public approval of President Bush has dipped to a new low in the Associated Press-Ipsos poll, driven by dissatisfaction with his handling of the economy.

A survey released Thursday showed 28 percent approve of the overall job Bush is doing. That was statistically tied with his previous low in the poll of 30 percent last month and in February.

Only 27 percent are happy with his job on the economy, which threatens to enter a recession and which many national surveys show is voters' top worry. That was worse than his previous low of 29 percent approval for handling the economy set in February, and down 4 percentage points from last month.

Congress was rated positively by 23 percent, a point above its worst mark. It has been mired in poor ratings since last summer, with many Democrats complaining it has not challenged Bush strenuously enough on Iraq and other issues and Republicans generally unhappy with its Democratic leaders.

Highlighting Bush's broad unpopularity, 60 percent of Republicans approved of his overall job, his weakest showing yet with members of his own party. Just 7 percent of Democrats and 17 percent of independents approve.

On the economy, 54 percent of Republicans approve of Bush's efforts, another low.

His approval by all adults for handling domestic matters like health care fell 7 points to 27 percent, his steepest drop this month. His ratings for dealing with Iraq and other foreign policy issues were low but stable.

Overall, 24 percent said the country is heading in the right direction, about the same gloomy assessment the public has had for months.

The AP-Ipsos poll began in December 2003. The all-time low presidential approval in the Gallup Poll was President Truman's 23 percent in 1952 during the Korean War.

The AP-Ipsos poll was taken from April 7-9 and involved telephone interviews with 1,005 adults. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

Yes, Bush is a moronic fool and the worst president in history, but hey Condi Rice sitll likes for some strange reason. They travel the world together on Air Force One in Private quarters, and they both act like neither one as a care in the world. Why is that do you wonder?

I'm sitting here in my quiet room listening to the collective "DUH" coming from America (except for the guy I talked to earlier that actually thinks that Bush is doing an excellent job... WTF?).

I think a dog turd would have a higher approval rating then Bush, Cheney no doubt it would.

Zero

It's just another misleading media report.

I don't believe it, it's too high. I think he's down about to 19%. There's no way he at 28% when 80%+ of the people poll they are dissatisfied with the country's direction.

But, they don't care what WE think anyway.......and, apparently, neither does Pelosi.

Are the Republicans that different from everybody else. 60% they might be living in another dimension. I know you have got to be faithful to you candidate but come on now.

How is it still that high? With the economy in shambles, Iraq occupation, blood on his hands, Bin Laden still out there, middle class shrinking, gas prices thru the roof, the constitution ripped to shreds, Katrina neglect, scandal after scandal & there are still 28% supporting this disasterous administration and evil buffoon?

The only way it's gonna get any lower is if dead people start hating him too.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:45 PM on 04/13/2008

There are too many months remaining in the year to have him in office. With such a low rating I think the war crimes tribunal needs to organize now. Bush and all his administration from both terms need to face questions as to their roles in the deaths of many innocent people. There are many missing people starting from 9-11 that need to be accounted for. I want him out now. Let's not wait. I am tired waiting for the ball to get rolling.

Actually 28% approval is phenomenal when compared to other sitting presidents who also happen to be war criminals " the devil is in the details.

G W Bush, the greatest president we have had between January 2001 and January 2009; the absolute worst president between 1789 and 2009. Let's hope we never have to see his kind again.

This is preaching to the choir, sadly. AOL is pro-Hillary and they employ sharks to search out things that can be twisted to the Clinton benefit, The comments about bitterness and the words "guns" ,"religion," etc. are being pounced upon as if Obama had said something dirty. The Clinton campaign is so desperate to smear Obama it will not surprise me if they next accuse him of sitting down to discuss Iraqi policy with bush and embracing his (bush's) views! There is nothing in the entire bush term that merits approval. He has ruined the nation and it will be decades before we get back anything like what we had. At that, it will never be the same. History will judge this nation as severely as it did Germany and it has taken Germany 64 years to begin to lift its head to the world. That awaits this country.

Sadly, you are absolutely correct, Kitty... If we can stop the bleeding now. If McSame get elected, or selected, or appointed (who the fuck knows anymore), we will NEVER recover, and I will move into a bamboo shack in Cambodia, and wait for the sea level to catch up with me.

28% approve of the job he's doing overall

The top 2% are immune to the economy. That leaves 26%, which includes the gun-toters, the religious fanatics, and other miscellaneous bigots. They're the wannabes who still like to believe they will someday sit down and have that beer with George W. Bush. He's shafted them, but they never were good at "Connect the Dots".

Fool me once..... shame... on... me? Fool.. me.. twice? YOU CAN'T GET FOOLED AGAIN!

Hisbase are war mongers, bankers, CEOs, oil companies, credit card companies, insurance companies, brokerages, and many in the media. You know, those who have made a lot of money during this dishonest regime.

Bush's 'ownership society' is set up to where everyone is on their own to deal with huge companies who have the law guarding their sorry butts.

8 years of corruption, cronyism, incompetence and he still has a loyal flock. The man has been a bigger crock than the man who previously set the standard, Richard Nixon.

Good to see that Congress, and Senate is lower rated than the Prez.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:52 PM on 04/12/2008

That's no surprise, really. Democrats are impatient that Congress has done so little to investigate and punish crooked administration lackeys such as Gonzales and Woo. Also, most Americans tend to be more critical of Congress as a whole than their own reps.

There's no chance Bush will be tried for anything. The history books will be kind to him, thanks to Mr. Conyers and Ms. Pelosi. He will be dismissed as another "harmless incompetent" like Gerald Ford or Jimmy Carter.

Any chance of someone standing up to BushCo and holding this administration accountable will be thwarted--by Democrats!

Yeah, we can hope, but it ain't gonna happen. Though we are dying economically, we are not about to be militarily defeated on our own soil. All the criminal neocons will die peacefully in bed in their villas, except for Wolfawitz, who will probably die from comb poisoning.

Neocon43 spends hours trying to find a poll that raises Bush's unpopularity a few percentage points. Whether its 28% or 38% or 0 the pst seven years of consistent corruption and incompetency have to be singularly noteworthy as the worst "presidency" in our history. The Bush supporters and enablers in and out of congress have placed the welfare of the majority of us at peril by the reckless policies and programs geared to satisfy their lust for power and greed. The reason the Democrats are not higher in the polls is because they have not been able to remove the dolt from office because the overall numbers have not been in their favor to impeach even though the high crimes, misdemeanors, malfeasance and misfeasance in the highest office in the land is observable to all.
