"When Senator John McCain was asked here this afternoon how he plans to balance the budget, he said that he hoped to do so by stimulating economic growth - and approvingly cited the example of President Ronald Reagan," the New York Times reports.

"There was one thing he did not mention during his response: the deficit nearly tripled during the Reagan presidency, partly due to tax cuts and increases in military spending."

The exchange occurred at a town-hall-style meeting held in a tent outside Bridgewater Associates, an investment firm. A member of the audience stood up and asked Mr. McCain, who has called for balanced budgets, how he plans to do it.

"Basically, which is it?" the man asked Mr. McCain. "Straight talk: Do you want to raise taxes, cut entitlement spending, cut defense spending, or have a deficit?"

Mr. McCain did not explain how he plans to balance the budget, but spoke generally about hoping to stimulate the economy - and cited President Reagan.

His dementia is progressing earlier then it did for his hero Ronnie "I can't recall" Reagan.

That is why the VP role is so important.

Romney, Rice, or Gingrich will all have

David Addington there as Chief of Staff.

As bad as McCain is alone, with Romney, Rice, or Gingrich as VP candidate, the Democrats could run Satan (Dick Cheney) and still win.

Does McVain even know what a deficit is? This is the same man that says he knows nothing about the economy.

Hey, it could have been worse; at least he didn't utter Bush's infamous, "I want to restore fiscal discipline to Washingon". Serously, someone needs to do a mini-mental status exam on McGramps.

Don't try and belittle McCain. He knew EXACTLY that of which he was speaking.

I pray that Americans are REALLY listening to him.

McCain is not a student of recent American History--or anything else, for that matter. He can't tell you the difference between the Islamic Sects, before long he'll start mixing up Iraq and Iran. This moron wants to be POTUS, and he finished 5th FROM BOTTOM AT ANNAPOLIS. Why does the right love to support doofusses?

It's just amazing to me that the myth of Reaganomics persists. Not only did the deficits increase, but the Reagan Administration actually raised taxes when they realized that supply-side economics was indeed "voo-doo economics." But to hear modern Reaganites, you'd think he cut and cut and cut taxes and we ended up with a healthy surplus as a result.

Poor McCain...he's just out to lunch. His Aricept is no longer enough. I hope the Clinton/Obama race just continues so that McAge continues to prove why he needs to be on someone's front porch in bathrobe and paper slippers.

So true, recently the doonesbury cartoon featured the reaganomics disaster. Over 70%of our nations debt has been run up during the administrations of reagan, bush 1 and bush 2. 70% of our national debt with these 3 morons and they are fiscally responsible. American voters are so stupid to keep buying into this big lie.

McCain's not running because he has a vision for America. He's running because he wants to be President. No plan, no goal, just feels it's his turn. That he's due. It's Bob Dole all over again and either Democratic candidate will mop the floor with him - even the MSM won't be able to keep covering up for him.

The Republican leadership must know this. They can't be foolish enough to believe he could go up against either Democrat visually or in the debates and come out good. So, and it pains me to say this about fellow Americans, they might be tempted to let our economy, the war, everything slip a little further into the abyss. Then in 2012 bring out Mitt Romney as the savior when the Democratic President is still struggling to get a grip on what was left them.

He's just the gift that keeps on giving.... I hope once the Dems get their candidate selected McCain won't have used up all his gaffs or suddenly turn smart!

McCain is so sad. He had nothing, what did Cindy McCain see in him? She was the business person and came from money. I do know that they have a pre-nup. I am glad Liberman is with him, he is also a loser.
