A new kind of umbrella promises to keep you drier while you fiddle with your cell phone, handbag or briefcase.

The Nubrella is a big plastic dome that rests on your shoulders. While it keeps you dry through the strongest rain storm, that level of weather protection comes at a cost: Let's just call it the dorkiness factor.

The new-style umbrella looks like something out of a bad science fiction movie.

There used to be a slightly more practical version-aka a hands free umbrella that is worn on the head-looks just as dorky and would have the other disadvantages discussed in the post/comments (wind and etc.) but your hands are freed up. I never saw it sold anywhere, the only place I saw it is on late night tv commercials for Cal Worthington car dealers, you got one if you came down to their dealers and say you saw the commercial, and they gave you one just for stopping in.
