CNN reported Saturday that Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton touted her experience with guns and hunting to a crowd in Indiana:

Hillary Clinton appealed to Second Amendment supporters on Saturday by hinting that she has some experience of her own pulling triggers.

"I disagree with Sen. Obama's assertion that people in our country cling to guns and have certain attitudes about trade and immigration simply out of frustration," she began, referring to the Obama comments on small-town Americans that set off a political tumult on Friday.

She then introduced a fond memory from her youth.

"You know, my dad took me out behind the cottage that my grandfather built on a little lake called Lake Winola outside of Scranton and taught be how to shoot when I was a little girl," she said.

"You know, some people now continue to teach their children and their grandchildren. It's part of culture. It's part of a way of life. People enjoy hunting and shooting because it's an important part of who they are. Not because they are bitter."

Clinton said she has hunted ducks.

ABC News later reported that Clinton also visited a restaurant in Crown Point, Indiana to share a shot of whiskey with the locals:

Clinton stood by the bar and took a shot of Crown Royal whiskey. She took one sip of the shot, then another small sip, then a few seconds later threw her head back and finished off the whole thing.

Clinton later sat down at a table and enjoyed some pizza and beer, and called over Mayor Tom McDermott of Hammond, Ind., to come join the table.

"Every time I get around you we start drinking, senator," the mayor exclaimed.

Clinton nodded and raised her glass.

"It's Saturday night, though, Tom," she said.

I guess if I had to spend much time with her, I'd want to be drinking too.

Did she even listen to what Obama said? He didn't say people cling to guns because they're bitter. He said that when people don't feel that ANY politicians are doing anything about jobs, health care, or the economy, they feel betrayed, frustrated, and yes, bitter. Since they don't feel there's any difference between any of the candidates on these issues, they revert to voting for the candidate who appeals to their fears, values and prejudices regarding things like religion, gun control, abortion and gay marriage. Any moderately intelligent, independent thinker should be able to understand that. How else can you explain the number of people who continue to vote for politicians whose core policies continue to harm them and their families economically and otherwise?

For her to twist his comments like she has, she is either willfully ignorant of the facts, not smart enough to get it, or willing to spin and lie her way forward to the detriment of her party and, ultimately, the country. Sounds a lot like the administration we have now. Haven't we had enough?

I have so had it with Bill & Hillary Clinton and their sociopathic approach to politics. They will SAY ANYTHING to attack their opponent and gain a tempoary tactical advantage - even when one of them said EXACTLY THE SAME THING days, months, or years earlier!! If Hillary is able to steal this primary nomination by getting the super delegates to overrule the majority elected pledged delegates, is that "elitist" when the non-elected officials overrule the voters??
I tremble at the thought of a third Clinton Administration. Here we will have ex-Prez Bill Clinton, speech maker extraordinaire and foreigh money fundraising guru, back in the White House. The Republicans (and many Democratis, I hope) will have legitimate justification in wanting to know what influence Bill is having on trade and other policies with Columbia, Canada, China, and Whatthefuckistan where he has collected MILLIONS in speaking and introduction fees. What was it, $109 MILLION and a mansion in New York after eight years as an ex-President?
And Obama, who just paid off his student loans, was raised by a single mother, worked as a community organizer in Chicago for $10,000 is the elitist!! Help me Jesus to understand how we have got into this mess.

I am looking forward to reading Dr. Kathleen Reardon's post (which will no doubt be forthcoming) on how Hillary is promoting the feminist cause. I mean, drinking whiskey shots and beer chasers with the boys in Indiana, gun-slingin' and duck-huntin' in Pennsylvania - the only thing left is for her to "piss standing up" and then men everywhere will admit women are their equals.

Now there's an image for the YouTubes. The yellow pantsuit, wide stance, third or fourth boilermaker in hand. It's 3 AM, do you know where your president is?

But I kid Hillary. I wish she just would have run on her abilities. Is she that insecure? It really says a lot that you have to constantly make stuff up to try to FOOL people into thinking you're a strong candidate. What was wrong with her credentials they way they stood, as a starting point. It's all wrong. It's all backwards. But now we know who she really is. And through the lack of emotional intelligence she's shown, it's clear she's really not presidential material. It's sad. Every time she lies she digs herself in deeper. A lesson in authenticity, and how a lack thereof soon becomes transparent, and eventually intolerable.

And one more thing: I am tired of people posting who are such rabid BO or Hill supporters, that they seem incapable of criticizing their candidate, or of praising the other candidate. Why is that so hard? I was a precinct captain for Obama, but at the same time when he screws up, I am the first to criticize him. When Hill is attacked unfairly, I'll say so. It seems like many of us have lost perspective. Be Dems first. And so this mistake of BO's along with the Wright matter (which I was very upset with BO for not getting out in front of, he should have left that church years ago IMO) and two of Michelle's comments, I am afraid may be general election poison. Not that Hill wouldn't have an uphill climb in the GE as well, she sure has PLENTY of baggage McSenile could use against her, but BO's mistakes will hit the gut and raw nerves of the blue-collar white voter in a big way, and I'm afraid he may lost 40+ states, unless he can somehow figure out how to clean up this titanic error of describing them in this tone-deaf, insensitive way.

did you notice what the topic of this post was? Did you expect people to not point out her rabid hypocrisy?????!!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:16 AM on 04/14/2008

Yes of course I noticed, Snowcat, don't be condescending like BO was. Yes I support him, yes she's pandering, but he made such a huge mistake it dwarfs any (predictable) pandering on her part. Plus, as MoDo pointed out, she has successfully somehow "branded" her self months ago as a scrappy blue-collar momma, and this is her base. She doesn't need to pander very much to get their vote anyway. Wake up, this pandering is small potatoes next to BO's titanic error. We who support a candidate need to see the bigger picture, and admit when they screwed up, and admit when their mistakes are adding up. I'm a realist. So, in conclusion, her "hypocrisy" while not new, will be unnoticed by most of the masses, while his statements like Wright will continue to be played in an endless loop, Snowcat.

Bill Clinton 1991:

""The reason (George H. W. Bush's tactic) works so well now is that you have all these economically insecure white people who are scared to death," Clinton was quoted saying by the Los Angeles Times in September 1991.

"You know, he [Bush] wants to divide us over race. I'm from the South. I understand this. This quota deal they're gonna pull in the next election is the same old scam they've been pulling on us for decade after decade after decade. When their economic policies fail, when the country's coming apart rather than coming together, what do they do? They find the most economically insecure white men and scare the living daylights out of them."

Hillary Clinton April 13 , 2008

After a weekend spent making direct appeals to gun owners and church goers, Hillary Clinton said Sunday a query about the last time she fired a gun or attended church services "is not a relevant question in this debate” over Barack Obama’s recent comments on small town Americans.

“We can answer that some other time,” Clinton said at a press conference held in a working class neighborhood here. “This is about what people feel is being said about them. I went to church on Easter. I mean, so?”

As I said, I was a precinct captain for him. What have you done for his campaign lately? I called hundreds of people in my NoCal district gunning for him. I donated hundreds of dollars to his campaign. BUT I am a reasoning person who can see flaws in the people I love, unlike many of the people who post mindless pro Obama or anti Hill comments no matter what they do. Think a little before you post!

As an Obama supporter, I can't be angry if his opponent takes advantage of his collosal error--that's what you do in a race. She is taking advantage of his error, and I don't blame her at all. I am really upset that BO made such an unbelievably stupid comment, and he has to step back and think how it sounds to people. AND he has to not be surprised or angry that Hill and the GOP would pounce on this error. I've said it before--his mistakes are much fewer than hers, but are much bigger because they hit on raw cultural/racial areas that really can turn people off. This one sentence could really cost him the nomination, and if not, definitely the general. We Obama supporters have to be realistic and realize that opponents are not wrong to take advantage of mistakes, and we also have to have our antennae up as Dems and ask ourselves: is my candidate now unelectable? If so...I would hold my nose and support Hill because I want a Dem in the White House, and that goal is the most important. I'm not crazy about pandering Hill, but I rather have her than McBomb.

I don't believe Barack Obama made a collosal error. I think Hillary Clinton is trying to turn it into one because she's got nothing else and she's desperate. Just like she did with his Ronald Reagan comments. She's such a time-waster.

I've spent the last 3 days trying to figure out what was so bad about Barak's comment. If this is all people have to worry about, then we all may as well vote for Bomb Bomb John and have an extension of the current fiasco. Some people, including Hillary need to get a life.
It's obvious that she (Hillary) is grasping at everything and anything hoping Obama will stumble, but believe me, this statement isnt it. Hillary and her entire campaign is looking more and more foolish as the days go by. And husband Bill and Carville arent doing her any favours either. Please resign by June so we can get on with this election.

Watching Hillary Clinton pander for votes is pathetic. Poor person wants to be Commander in Chief so bad she went out and bought a bee bee gun with Bill's guidance of course. Team Billary are TOAST, and these two ego maniacs will hang on until the last superdelegate casts their vote for Obama. Then they will demand a recount!

HRC might be better positioned to take advantage of this if she not already promised, just this week, to outlaw the most popular target rifles in the United States. That's not going to endear her to gun owners.

Harvard University political scientist Theda Skocpol -

I have been in meetings with the Clintons and their advisors where very clinical things were said in a very-detached tone about unwillingness of working class voters to trust government -- and Bill Clinton -- and about their unfortunate (from a Clinton perspective) proclivity to vote on life-style rather than economic issues. To see Hillary going absolutely over the top to smash Obama for making clearly more humanly sympathetic observations in this vein, is just amazing. Even more so to see her pretending to be a gun-toting non-elite. Give us a break!...

This has to be one of the few times in U.S. political history when a multi-millionaire has accused a much less wealthy fellow public servant, a person of the same party and views who made much less lucrative career choices, of "elitism"! In a way, it is funny -- and it may not be long before the jokes start.
