NY Daily News:

Rock star Sting paid a breathtaking $26.5 million for a condominium at 15 Central Park West, city records show.

The lead singer for The Police closed on the apartment March 11, according to a deed posted Friday on the city Department of Finance Web site.

The newly built 43-story neoclassical building by architect Robert A.M. Stern features herringbone floors, Vermont marble countertops, six-burner Thermador ranges and heated bathroom floors. Penthouses have sold for more than $6,000 a square foot.

Sting's neighbors in the building include former Citigroup Inc. Chairman Sanford Weill, who paid more than $42 million for his apartment, and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Chairman Lloyd Blankfein.

walking his new fields of gold will find him in the company of rich people, the lowest form of human being. he'll need to go to jack hardy's songwriter exchange in the village to get on track with where his music came from.

Ok, looked at the building's website ... for one of those penthouses with the huge balconies on top, 6,000 sq. ft. on CPW? Price doesn't surprise me a bit .... that's what it would take to make New York livable for me, too. :)

Kinda makes those thousands of dollars (after "administrative" fees) he's raised for trendy charities look like lip service, don't it?

I know what Sting is going through. I almost bought that $26.5M condo last year. Yeah, I had to fudge my income a bit on the mortgage application, but nobody had a problem with that. It would've been a steal with the no money down and low introductory mortgage rate that would reset 5 years later. In the end, I couldn't stand the archaic Vermont marble countertops, and I was not going to put my precious IKEA furniture on those ugly herringbone floors. I just didn't have time for a longterm fix-it-up project like that heap.

you know I love Sting, but this is sort of disgusting. If I acquired this sort of wealth I believe I would share
it with less fortunate.I`m no angel ,but I know I could get by on a whole lot less, and still be in the lap of
luxury.

Good for him, he deserves what he has.

Sting has been in music business for ages, and his music has a positive effect on people's life, including myself.

I applaud him.

LoRiseAntlers, why bore us with your comments? Bother someone else, like the midgets, go tell the midgets they are not tall enough for the roller-coaster.

How in the hell is a real estate deal newsworthy?

This is just a little ridiculous.

I'd rather Sting get the money than any CEO at Bear Stearns or Exxon.

Exactly!

I feel the same way, at least he can sing and has a great voice, people enjoy his music, he does something positive which is his music, besides he is a great wonderful human being.

What those CEOs do?

Sting made all of his money by himself, with his own talent, just like any successful business owner that started from scratch. He has places all over the world because he actually tours and works planet wide.

If it makes one feel better, criticise the wealthy people who didn't earn it like actors, news anchors and MSM celebrities. I am amazed that people like Katie Couric, Barbera Walters, Chris Matthews and Bill O'Reilly are paid just to show up and talk. Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts can be paid millions for their movies, yet do no actual creative work themselves. They have paid writers and producers that make them what they are today, and were merely born attractive and/or lucky. I hope the writers got what they wanted from their strike, because their efforts is what makes these talking heads their millions.

With the noted exception of all Sly and Robbie base riffs he lifted. Besides, no one make all that kind of money themselves. Don't forget the talent of the other artists and producers who contributed to his works. The lyrics and music he wrote after his divorce led to one of his top selling albums of the Police, and that didn't happen in a vacuum. I only hope his former wife received a nice settlement.

Some of my money went his earnings (cds, concert tkts, downloads, movies etc.) but I seriously doubt I'll be having tea at 15 CPW anytime soon.

Sting has always been a favorite. He's clearly deserving of his success, but it's slightly disheartening to see someone who used to be so vocal about the environment become a poster boy for conspicuous consumption. Where's the eloquent, indignant Sting of the 80's?There are so many issues that we don't seem to be hearing about from him anymore. Oh well, maybe he'll have some things to say on an upcoming (Police?) record.

Indeed that's what I was thinking. I mean if he was true to it all he's just buy the development rights to
the remaining farms on eastern Long Island then turn them over to an open space conservancy of some kind. But of course you can bet this is an investment decision since the dollar is cheaper and property here I'll bet is much cheaper here and has fewer restrictions and more amenities than in the UK (like window screens) wonder if it even has any balconies or terraces.

Entertainers are just not paid enough.
How can the guy get by with just 6 homes and a lousy $27 million condo? He is a star. Shouldn't he have better? I asked a few people who are going through foreclosure and they could not understand how Sting gets by either.

I know must be so tough to only be able to afford a $27 million condo on the West side of Manhattan...
