I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Pat Buchanan

It was an otherwise normal day in the Land of the McLaughing Group. John got to bellow, "The answer is HILLARY." And nobody minded that they weren't as relentlessly dogmatic in the Papism as Pat Buchanan, and the whole panel kinda sorta agreed on the issue of China and the Olympics, but because this was the McLaughlin Group, they all agreed to pillory each other with loud sounds from their cakeholes for our amusement. But, about halfway through the show, Pat Buchanan said something that didn't amuse - not one little bit I'm afraid!

BUCHANAN: But I'll tell you what's coming, John. Petraeus pointed right at the special groups supported by Iran, as the main problem now. They are firing rockets into the Green Zone, they're responsible for Basra. The president said that Iran better not make the wrong choice. We're looking at 140,000 troops there by the end of the year, and very possibly airstrikes in Iran before this fall.

Oh. Fantastic.

[WATCH.]

Later, Pat went back to this scary imagining, predicting: "Fifty-fifty chance of U.S. airstrikes on Iran by October." Paging Dr. Strangelove!

It was an otherwise normal day in the Land of the McLaughing Group. John got to bellow, "The answer is HILLARY." And nobody minded that they weren't as relentlessly dogmatic in the Papism as Pat Buc...

99-TO 0NE WE WILL BUSH AT THE HAGUE TRIBUNALS..AMERICA WE HAVE A WAR CRIMINAL FOR PRESIDENT.WAKE UPP AND SMELL THE HALLIBURTON GAS..

EAT ETHANOL YOU RATS..Wall Street millionaires have spent months mourning their losses from once ridiculously over-valued investments. Yet these same free market cheerleaders remain blissfully unaware of the magnitude of the crisis facing the real victims of the unfolding global meltdown they so enthusiastically enabled. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan ended some years ago. In Iraq, the war ended with the fall of Saddam Hussein's government; in Afghanistan, with the fall of the Taliban government. What's been happening since is occupation and resistance to occupation

Halliburton, though it's European subsidiaries has a 50-year contract with Iran, to modernize their oil-producing infrastructure. Moving their corporate head quarters to Dubai is no accident. If this is the case and the neo-cons get there way, than 160’000 us troops, not mention another 180,000 contractors will be fighting there way out Iraq with 400 miles of hostile Iranians on their flank. I find it interesting that Bush and Cheney have to sneak into the country for a few hours and the Iranian leadership gets rose peddles and sloppy kisses. The next country that will get the welcome matt will be China, because they have figured out that being an economic superpower has more advantages than being a warmongering military super power. You may or may not like the China’s internal policies, but they have figured out is they can negotiate and buy what they need, they do not have to depose governments on the pretext of spreading a political ideology which contributed to the undoing of the Soviet Union and we barrow the money from them to do it. Call me unpatriotic or an elitist, but that sort of makes us an international joke.

As long as US is in Iraq, the Chinese will not be there in a significant role. Once US leaves, provided Iran is still there, China will definitely try to buy energy from Iraq.

It is ironic that it was Mao who said, "Power comes from the barral of the gun" and US is following that while the Chinese are exercising their capitalist muscle throughout the world.

Look, as much as I have and do disagree and dislike (even hate) what Pat has stood for for 99% of his career, he has been against Iraq and Iran for a long time now. He's NOT cheerleading. He's telling you what he knows the Neocons want to do and will try to do. They just don't realize that starting a 3rd war will mean a forcible dismantling of the GOP or possibly American civil war. Let the War Pigs start another war and escalate to nuclear and it will be open season on Bushies - I guarantee it.

It kills me to say it, but there is a certain something to be said for letting McCain have a third term.

What's another slice off a cut loaf?

The problem is that we are nearing that "Civil War" slice and the Neocons are too stupid to realize they won't survive the fallout.

Isn't it time Americans stop listening to Pat Buchanan? He offers an old perspective and we are facing a new time, an epoch that necessitates we evolve. Look where his thinking, the neo-cons, conservatives, have taken us! It's time for change, we have received the wake-up call already!

We must stop listening to these political dinosaurs, struggling to keep things status quo, afraid to lose their own personal stepping in the midst of change. They are for themselves, not the whole.

PB is not a neocon. If the Republican party were ruled by PB and like-minded, then we would not be in this Iraq war. Though I grant you that a woman's right to choose would be gone.

Sorry Mr. Buchanan but, you're 100% wrong!
The days when the neo-con Congress rubber-stamps anything that pops into Cocaine Boy's head are long gone.
The last time we launched a war for George W. AWOL's ego and the M.I.C.'s bottom line, it was a complete disaster.
Besides, where does Mr. Buchanan think these new troops are coming from?
The born to privilege sons and daughters of the neo-con's sure ain't joining the service, the GOP is too yellow to allow a draft, and the Iraq Oil War has depleted our National Guard reserves so again, where are these new troops coming from?
Not to mention, Iran hasn't been weakened by the years of sanctions the way Iraq had been prior to our lie-based invasion.
Nope, the only way we'll invade Iraq is if AWOL Bush and his boss WAR DEFERMENTS Cheney do what Nixon did when he bombed Cambodia; Invade a sovereign nation without first getting Congressional approval.

The problem is that the way that this administration thinks that they are above the law, your last sentence is a distinct possibility. They don't give a shit about laws, only what they think is right. Be afraid of these assholes and Lady Nancy took impeachment off the table. See where thats got us. On the brink one more time. We should make sure that Lady Nancy is never elected again.

They won't get congressional approval for bombing Iran and neither congress nor courts will do anything about it.

Sorry Mr. Boboday555 but, you're 100% wrong!

Too many Dems support neoCON war policies.

The stage has been set. The odds for expanded war increase daily.

Pelosi scuttled a resolution that would have required Congressional approval for an attack on Iran.
Both Houses overwhelmingly approved labeling Iran's military as a "terrorist" organization, implicitly giving Bush a green light to attack.

Petreaus now blames Iran for any difficulties the US has occupying Iraq.
Fallon, who reportedly opposed launching a war against Iran, has been removed.
Israel is actively preparing for what it's leaders call an inevitable and necessary war.

A likely scenario will begin with Israel attacking Lebanon/Syria.
Both Houses of Congress have passed resolutions giving unqualified support for Israel. The US has often vetoed any UN resolutions or actions against Israel. Israel's recent invasion of Lebanon did not go as planned, and fortunately did not escalate.
But with the US economy going south, and Cheney chomping at the bit for war, the next round in Lebanon may well find "aggressive" Iranian speedboats a a sufficient pretext for a US attack.

Where'd you get the headcount of those Dems supporting the war? Is that from Rove's sheet for today?

Peacekitten commented earlier in this thread: 'Mohandas Gandhi...as i recall, he freed his nation from the largest empire on earth, through peace... Which, in the long run, is more effective? killing your "enemy" or changing their mind? the ideas they fight for don't disappear because they are dead.'

Responding to my comment: "Doves gather no political moss, hawks get the prize every time."

I agree, great things could be achieved using the ways of peace. I'm just observing that the Peace Department doesn't brook near the respect it deserves for political clout amongst the citizenry and their politicians. We could do much, but we won't -- because, collectively, we don't believe we can (hence the unwillingness to make proper responses to global warming, et al).

Iran just gives us a further, bigger glimpse of the scope of the limb Bush Cheney has us out on, using our national head-in-the-sand attitude to the dirty-work we allow the same group of con-men to do in our name. Iran's part of a checklist that started with Iraq (Afghanistan was "window dressing" because it supposedly harbored bin Laden -- it was knock-off, easy pickens).

"Iran just gives us a further, bigger glimpse of the scope of the limb Bush Cheney has us out on, using our national head-in-the-sand attitude to the dirty-work we allow the same group of con-men to do in our name... for five decades, now. McCain? more of the same thugs who have been infecting our government for entire generation of politics.

Buchanan On McLaughlin: Fifty-Fifty Chance We Bomb Iran By Fall.......

All that says is that we might bomb Iran before Labor Day or after Labor Day, or we might not bomb Iran at all. But what puzzles me is who's the "we"? Oh, it must be Pat's excitement about the arrival of the pope and he's using the pontifical "We". But why do we have to wait for the Fall? Instead of fireworks why not bomb Iran on the pope's birthday and have Poppie Bush (note pope and poppie same Latin root) sky dive into the the reflecting pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Of course there's a security risk if the vice president and Senator Clinton are in the area. Cheny might mistake Poppie for a wild turkey and shoot the pope and Hillary might not know the difference between a wild turkey and a duck and shoot Poppie or the pope could panic when He realizes He's surrounded by Protestants and shoot them all.

The saber ratteling aways comes from those who didn't serve like Bush, Cheney, Buchanan.

Of course there is Mr. "War Hero" McCain who served 20 hours in combat (23 days) in Viet Nam, became POW (unfortunate) and sang like a bird to the enemy! Yea he's a tough guy violating the code of conduct. Read all about it from Colonel David Hackworth:

If Britain had not fought Hitler, General Plan Ost would have been implemented in Poland, and the Soviet Union may have been defeated. The Holocaust not only would still have occurred, but many more people would have been killed in Hitlers genocide.
Yes, Britain would not have been invaded but insane Nazis could well have ruled the world.

I always felt that the Germans lost it when they ignored (for racist reasons) the willingness of the Russian population to work with them to overthrow the Communist Govt. Instead, Hitler was stupid enough to express his ignorant contempt for Slavs. Had he known his history - he would have known that it was the Slavic Knights (not the Ayrans) that stopped the Islamic invasion of Europe.
