Pat Buchanan

It was an otherwise normal day in the Land of the McLaughing Group. John got to bellow, "The answer is HILLARY." And nobody minded that they weren't as relentlessly dogmatic in the Papism as Pat Buchanan, and the whole panel kinda sorta agreed on the issue of China and the Olympics, but because this was the McLaughlin Group, they all agreed to pillory each other with loud sounds from their cakeholes for our amusement. But, about halfway through the show, Pat Buchanan said something that didn't amuse - not one little bit I'm afraid!

BUCHANAN: But I'll tell you what's coming, John. Petraeus pointed right at the special groups supported by Iran, as the main problem now. They are firing rockets into the Green Zone, they're responsible for Basra. The president said that Iran better not make the wrong choice. We're looking at 140,000 troops there by the end of the year, and very possibly airstrikes in Iran before this fall.

Oh. Fantastic.

[WATCH.]

Later, Pat went back to this scary imagining, predicting: "Fifty-fifty chance of U.S. airstrikes on Iran by October." Paging Dr. Strangelove!

It was an otherwise normal day in the Land of the McLaughing Group. John got to bellow, "The answer is HILLARY." And nobody minded that they weren't as relentlessly dogmatic in the Papism as Pat Buc...

Bad idea, very bad idea. A war against Iran right now?? Well where are those soldiers going to come from?? Or is it going to be an outsourced war?? Black water maybe.

Abdul, he said airstrikes, not a ground invasion.

He may have said that but does he really think Iran is going to say 'oh, ok, we'd better smarten up because big ole W is bombing us.' Of course Iran is then going to retaliate and then, guess what, we're in the middle of a huge middle east war. Of course, I wouldn't expect W and Cheney to think rationally like that so Buchanan could well be right.

It seems as though nobody in our government represents the welfare of the American people. In their quest for power, this administration is destroying this country. The party that we voted for to stop this hijacking of our freedom has no backbone. Bin Laden must be laughing his ass off. The terrorist won't have to attack us anymore, we're destroying ourselves.

Lack of back bone or a fear of something ?

Why 50-50? 40-60 wouldn't do? If he said 40-60 and we bombed Iran, we would think less of him?!

Listen to that: the price of oil, about $110, includes about $30 because of the possibility of war. So, I say that the maximum estimated probability of bombing Iran, which will not make the person who makes the estimate appear loony, when he KNOWS that the bombing is not going to happen, because it would lead to the end of civilization as we know it, is 50%. However, that's scary enough and can justify a $30 surcharge.

Would you be justified to pile up those $30 of "war" charges, if the estimated probability of a war that is NOT going to happed was only 10%? Think about that.

All of them are just convenient excuses to continue to push up the price of oil. Whether or not war in the middle east escalates, the price of oil WILL. There is no going back. This is the bottom of the barrel, so to speak, for OPEC. The sky's the limit.

Well gee, maybe if the troops were pulled out from their occupation of Iraq, they wouldn't be getting killed by Iranian backed forces. Why the hell can't you war mongers see that if the U.S. wasn't in this illegal war in Iraq, the Iranians wouldn't be fighting to get us out.

And what evidence do you have to support this assertion? Factual evidence of weapons manufacturing plants in Tehran? Where's the smoking gun numnutz? Or do you believe every word that comes out of Bush/Cheney's lying mouths? Or is your drum skin wound a little too tight to the tune of FOX noise?

Let's get all the facts straight before we start another baseless war.

ush "Iraq, aw shucks that was three wars ago, how can I remember that"...bygones". Sure, laugh now while you still can.

Petreus aside ( he's just a point and shoot lapdog like all good soldiers)

After Iran, then what?

Personally I say if we do, then we should bomb Riyadh and clear out the rest of AQI training academies.

I don't like Buchanan but he's been very vocal against Bush & Cheney, he might be right.

Bombing Iran could make the Republican losses in November less devastating and Israel very happy. Not to mention more insane profit for Halliburton and several other war profiteers. Think.

Sometimes Democrats are so bloody stupid. They really believe Republicans don't use NSA to spy on Democrats or use the DOJ, or won't make up some excuse to bomb Iran or stage a false flag operation. These guys want to stay in power and the wimpy Democratic Party is just the little sissy party to let them.

You give them too much credit, everything they touch turns to shit. They are not smart enough, nor are we dumb enough for this to happen again. If their spying and tricks are soo good, why did they lose control of the house and the senate.

Sorry, TN, we certainly ARE dumb enough. They don't have to be smart to bomb somebody! Violence is mindless, which is precisely why I think they will do it. And the puny Democratic majority in both houses isn't enough to stop them when we have a large contingent of storm-trooper repubs marching in goose-step with the Chimperor's orders. They WILL attack Iran on a bull-shit fabricated excuse, and by the time the American people take to the streets to protest, it will be way too late. We are screwed, blued, and tattooed. Still wanna have a beer with that asshole?

You will notice in the coming weeks that all the GOP paid talking heads will start to talk up Iran. they have their marching orders and they want to start a war in Iran because they desperately want get a military base in the middle east, which is what this was all about in the first place. Also you will hear Hannity, Rush and the other paid stooges try to justify going to Iran. They will tell you Iran is killing our troops because they are supplying arms ( you mean like we supplied arms to Bin Laden and Afghanistan when they fought Russia). Mark my words - I noticed Hannity, Limbaugh, and Levin were noticably absent from their shows on the same days last week. We will now see the same kind of exercise that they put us through convincing us that Saddma had WMDS. well here comes the same crap but is will be Iran this time.

Unfortunately, as flakey as Buchanan can be,re the EXPAND THE WAR goals of the Cheney neo-cons -Buchanan is sadly right on target.

He was also correct in calling Nancy Pelosi "THE AIPAC GIRL"
http://www.vdare.com/buchanan/070319_pelosi.htm
Proof that this March 2007 article was not Pat's fervid imagination is this link,
http://www.aipac.org/2785_2859.asp
AIPAC's own website, proudly hailing guest speaker Pelosi at their 2007 convention... along with Vice President Cheney, Senate Majority "leader" Harry Reid, and Senators Lieberman, (minority leader) Boehner & Mitch McConnell.
Cheney's bombastic "BOMB IRAN NOW!" speech brings the "bipartisan" attendees to their feet for a standing ovation.
http://www.aipac.org/2785_2859.asp
It must be realized that the Neo-Cons have spent ONE TRILLION DOLLARS of US treasury getting into Iraq war, which they saw as 'first step' to taking out Iran. As they see it, THEY CAN NOT BACK DOWN, and they will never be this close "taking out Tehran" again.
OH - the MAIN POINT here is, that for two decades Neo-Cons have been trying to UNDO the world's NUCLEAR NON-PROLIFERATION ACCORDS - specifically so the can throw US mlitary might around as enforcers.
In putting "Impeachment OFF the table," funding the open-ended war, and pretending not to notice Bush-Cheney's ONE PHONE CALL hair-trigger to war, NANCY PELOSI is a FULLY VESTED Neo-Con hawk.

You forgot one thing, the US military doesn't have any might, they exhausted it in Iraq, along with the treasure. It's over, we are coming home, Iraq wants to be good neighbors with Iran and they are already working it out. They won't draft because they know they will never be in power again. The house has the power of the purse and we have the house. No way it ain't gonna happen.

re: "...the US military doesn't have any might, they exhausted it in Iraq, along with the treasure."

Almost wish that that were true, just to prevent the possibility of more bloodshed. but once you realize that its not the military thats exhausted - its just the army - it would be the airforce thats charged with the responsibility of any bombing missions, with maybe the navy providing additional support. and they're all well-rested and ready-to-go.

The treasure it takes would be borrowed, just like most every other dollar cowboy george has squandered by putting it into the iraq war.

Buchanan's assertion is a very possible scenario because our immoral, corrupt president surely realizes that his political career is almost over and that the feckless democrats won't do a damn thing to stop him. there's practically no downside for bush and his gang of neocon thugs. plus they would get to leave office on a 'high note,' with some measure of success to their credit - in their own minds, at least - and the undying gratitude of israel, aipac and all their supporters.

If an election is held in November 2008, Obama will win by a landslide and Obama will have a decisive mandate to stop the Iraq hemorrhaging of American soldiers and our future prosperity.
Bush and Cheney cannot allow that to happen for two obvious reasons: they will lose their golden goose and instead they will have their own gooses cooked with the world Hague court indictment of these two felons for crimes against humanity.

The only option left for these bipeds is to create an emergency to justify (in their minds) declaring Marshall Law for the safety of Americans.
And that means NO elections in 2008 or ever. Bush not only has control of the Armed forces as Commander-in-Chief but the Blackwater brigades that outnumber our troops in Iraq and are better equipped, are under his private control with no congressional legal restraints. And with the oil money stolen from Iraq and the Saudi's finances Bush can be actual an independent dictator. If you look at my backlog of comments, I spelled this senario out over several months ago.

Maybe Pelosi could put impeachment back on the table and stipp Bush or Cheney of any executive power in the interim before conviction? I don't know if that is constitutionally possible.

If they had a 50% approval rating, maybe, because I would never put anything against these criminals of the highest order. Bush is done, you can tell he can't wait to get the hell out of there. Cheney and bush have more money than they know what to do with, it can't be a motivation any longer. Even the evangellicals don't like them anymore. Why do you think at every turn there all saying IRAN is influencing Iraq, of course they are, they border each other you morons, what good is a civil War going to do them, then they would end up with all the refugees! But that would hurt you Nazi's tiny little brains to think to hard, it's easier to just sit back while having your crown royal and push the button.

Pat is a non interventionist in foreign policy, he has never supported American wars. He is a libertarian not a Republican.

He is warning about the new war which Cheney and Bush want to start before he leaves office, not promoting it!

All the presidental candidates are pro war, just look at the backrounds of the people who surround them as advisors, read what they actually write, listen to what they say, it is not about left or right, democrat or republican, the only difference is that they have opposing views on specifically who they want to kill and the propaganda which should be used to sell it.
