Bill Maher ended his latest episode of "Real Time" with a "new rule" about the pope. Pegged to the recently raided polygamist compound in Texas and the pontiff's visit to the US this week, it had his guests in stitches and left the audience gasping.

The son of god is an archeological fact? The delusions people cling to over their choice of religious cults never ceases to amaze me. But put aside all of that and listen to Maher's last sentence. If the pope had been the head of a day care company where thousands of children worldwide had been sexually abused by the staff, he would be in jail. Die hard Catholics never let a little thing like pedophilia get in the way of their religion. So a few thousand children were buggered? The son of god is an archeological fact. I am a liberal democrat gay man who has had enough of Mahr bashing religion. I'm tired of it, and after watching him for many years, I will no longer do so. I believe in the God of the New Testament and do not believe all of the tales in the OT. Man needed to explain where we came from in that era, thus Adam and Eve. The Son of God, is not a fairy tale, but an historical fact with Archaeological evidence to back him up. I will no long be offended by Mahr.

Compared to my atheist friends now, they were hateful and evil. Of the twenty plus historians in the area and time of Jesus' supposed life, only two wrote about "Jesus". New Rule, in order to talk about the Catholic Sex Scandal, you need to know all the facts on who told the Church to transfer the Priests and how much the Catholic Church paid to "treat" the priest and who they hired to do it.

I think Bill is correct. I am a Catholic and have my concerns about this new Pope. I was an alter boy as well and never had a priest make an advance on me or anyone I knew. I did run across a few strange priests but I have always found it difficult to understand why someone would decide at an early age to remain celibate for their entire lives.

You know how you can tell religion is crazy?

Look at the leadership.

Look at the top of every faith and you will find crazy people.

Catholic: The current pope helped cover up the child molestation cases. Thousands of them.
Christian: Ted Haggart had a weekly standing meeting with the POTUS. (two words "jesus camp")
Islam: The leaders of black and arabic muslims are crazy. Farakhan and middle eastern crazyness.
Jewish: Jews need to choose Isreal or America. Caint have two countries or wifes. Plus Jews are as guilty as the Muslims for the violence in the Middle east. They both are to blame 50-50.

Buddist: - The popular religion hasn't stopped China from conducting the Sudan or Tibet atrocity.
Hindi: - Mother Teresa and Ghandi fought against many issues of Hindi faithed people.


My point is that no matter what faith or how much you claim to have faith humans continue to do what humans do which is screw each other as early and often as they can. Some will help most don't care.

I am a Roman Catholic with 12 years of Catholic education, I was even an alter boy, I have never been touched by a priest, although I got waked with a ruler by a Nun every once and while. If I went home and complained to my parents they would ask what were you doing? That’s why my parents dug into their pockets when they were already paying for public education with their property taxes.

With all that said, I do not like this new self appointed Pope, I do not like him at all. He is the Papal version of Cheney and dose not know the difference between a gay man and a pedophile. The Catholic Church has not made a significant change in the United States since Vatican 2. Pope John Paul, the most beloved leader of the Catholic Church that I’m aware of was also disappointing to me concerning issues like women priest. Pope Benedict wants to take the American Catholic Church back in time with issues like restraining respected Catholic Universities like George Town and Catholic University to a more religious orientation. Bad Idea.

All of my conservative Catholic friends and family are using birth control and teaching it to their teenagers, that called being responsible. Although I do not like Bill Maher going after the Pope, I am not fond of him protecting pedophile priest and Bishops either.
