Maher Pope

Bill Maher ended his latest episode of "Real Time" with a "new rule" about the pope. Pegged to the recently raided polygamist compound in Texas and the pontiff's visit to the US this week, it had his guests in stitches and left the audience gasping.

o what hell would be raised if critical comments about jews were made on television like bill used on the Pope

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:43 PM on 04/14/2008

O what Hell HAS been unleashed on thousands of children in the name of the Popes, Cardinals and Priests. And it's about time we hear the jokes and barbs regarding this sickness.

Regarding Jews. I haven't heard much about their religion sponsoring pedophilia for the past 60 years. What a lame and frankly dumb remark.

Poor Pope was made fun of and that's your concern? Do you know this guy's real history??? The Catholic Church has gotten away with crimes agaisnt children that sem to never end. No wonder we always see Mary crying.

The problem is that FEW raised Hell with this bizarre Church/Pope long ago.

candybar;

Critical comments are made about Jews all the time. And I agree with a lot of them. However, to date I have only heard of one rabbi who was a perverted child molestor. He had a fondness for his own daughter. So when the rabbis are dragged into court and the Jews find out that the religious leaders have been hiding this troublesome crime for centuries, then I am sure you will hear lots about rabbis who are pedophiles.

this is why talking heads make us democrats look like idiots on the boob tube, mahr is not a good democrat
arianna is not a good democrat
mathews is not a good democrat russert is not a good democrat
and these fools that gave bush an easy ride into office are now able to see the
republicans screwed us all and to avoid responsibility they say "we" and "the people"
now like they're representing us
they do not
they are corporate and money tells them what to think and what to tell us and what not to tell us
while lou(wall street week) dodds tries to split the DEMOCRATIC party with his populist rant of "independance" , he's just another corporate wonk trying to be 'all that'
on the boob tube
but he's not
and what he does , telling democrats they're the same as republicans is an obvious attempt to take votes away from democratic contenders
democrats that ACTUALLY have been working for the middle class ALL their lives !
not like ralf nader or regretably arianna huffington

VOTE DEMOCRAT BABY !
we can't take 4 more years of republican rule

Um, Maher is not a Democrat. He says that he's libertarian.

As far as I know, Chris Matthews isn't a registered Democrat either. Ditto for Tim Russert.

And Lou Dobbs is certainly no Democrat.

Calm down, do some research, and then go out and drum up support for the Democratic Party.

A small man with a small mind who despises those whom he deceives, and has no respect for himself. He would make a dupe of himself too, if he could. Now if a Chiristian was to make comments about his "pseudo-Jewish faith"..............then we would be anti-semitic. Bill needs clean his fingers before he point at other people's spots.

Oh, you were talking about Bill? When I first read your comment I thought it was about the Pope...

bill maher does not practice judaism and would not give a rat's ass if you spoke ill of it. he, like many, considers the stories of the bible as just that... stories. he can't convince himself that jonah lived in a whale's belly, that noah gathered 2 of every living animal and placed them on a boat, that adam and eve had cain and able, then evidently a shitload of other kids (that are not mentioned) who decided to marry and procreate.
ahh. "a small mind who despises those whom he deceives". um... o.k.

Peddler

Somehow it has not come to the notice of some respondents to this blog by Bill Maher, that to date, rabbis have not been dragged into court and found guilty of raping children. I myself believe some rabbis have done this and some do do it but it has not gone to court. When the rabbis are found guilty, and the synagogue is proven to have hidden the actions of the rabbi from the congragants then there will be attacks on the synagogues and the people who have sheltered the rabbis. If that criticism is considered anti semitic then so be it. I believe it says in the ten commandments that you shouldn't lie so anyone telling the truth should be exempt from being anything but anti child raping..

As a kid, I attended Catholic School. Bizarre, to say the least and I was among the top students. The guilt and shame crap dumped upon fine kids was immense. One priest would allow the 'best' boys to come stay with him at the Rectory (c'mon, the name of that place was more than a major hint!) on the weekend. Even in the third grade, I knew something was weird about the entire set up. Some of these boys would compete to see who could be invited ... I just wanted out of the school! Surreal and sick as I now look back.

Mahoney in LA ... one of the most evil of the religious folks one could imagine.

Bill is spot on ... and says it with humor. Amazing that folks still support an organization that has screwed (literally) so many innocent childrens minds. And then, once discovered, the priest-animals were simply transferred elsewhere for fresh meat. Quite a religion and says volumes about our ignorance and tacit consent regarding anything done in the name of God.

"Mahoney in LA ... one of the most evil of the religious folks one could imagine. " - amen to that - Cardinal Mahoney belongs in jail as an accomplice to the rape and child abuse of many children as he moved priests around the state of California to keep them from being exposed and arrested for their actions - if there is a hell, he belongs in it but jail will do as a substitute.

Isn't it surreal?

Mahoney admitted to aiding and covering child sex crimes that would make the top 10 at NAMBLA look like boy scouts and yet, he is free. They don't come much sicker. He worried ONLY about the priests, the money and seemed to relish the idea of setting an admitted pedophile into a new community to rape again. Fresh meat for all.

One must wonder ... why do Americans support this insanity? How could anyone even walk into a Catholic Church in this day and age? But ignorance is everywhere and once one considers themselves one of a 'Flock', common sense and the truth means absolutely nothing.

And for the record, before anyone thinks I'm defending Bill - I think he is a smarmy disingenuous smartass that I really wouldn't like to have a drink with and he is only marginally funny. But he does have valid points once in a while.

I am a Catholic and can't say I disagree. The outing of those pedophile priests that went on for years is sickening. And it was these men of the cloth who perpetuated it. Then in order to compensate the thousands of victims, church property which many of us contributed to, had to be sold off. To proclaim this man as the "holy father" is shameless. He was one of those who chose to bury the problem in the backyard. Bill isn't wrong.

I loved it when they tried to float their first solution to the pedophilia scandal.
One strike and you're out!
Yup...the Pope actually wanted to give these perverts one chance at raping kids before he did anything!
That is the day I stopped being a Catholic.
Haven't stepped foot in a Church to worship since that fateful day!
And, more importantly to their God business, I haven't donated one red cent to any Church since that day!
I hope all the child rape was worth it Pope!

I'm an atheist, but if for some insane reason I needed religion, I'd be Catholic. I mean, if I'm going to drink the koolaide, I might as well believe it's literally the blood of Christ . And I'd want to have some of those rosary beads and crucifixes and do that confession thing and believe that statues of Mary cry and she appears on grilled cheeses and all that shit. I think I have a point, and it is that what the catholic church has going for it besides volume is all its rituals and accessories.

I don't think Bill is desperate about anything.
He's just being truthful.

Was the Pope a member of the Nazi youth?
Yup!
Was the Catholic Chruch involved in a pedophile scandal and coverup?
Yup.
Was this latest cult masquerading as Christianity invovled in pedophilia?
Yup.

He doesn't sound desperate to me...he just sounds right!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:47 PM on 04/14/2008

Gee, you must be REALLY brave. A teenage kid fails to stand up to the Third Reitch and you brand him a Nazi. I'll bet you would have stood tall and told Hitler to stick his youth where the sun don't shine...Of course, you would have become a crispy critter rather rapidly.

BTW, the bio of Benedict tells the story of a family desperately trying to stay out of the Nazi machine, moving from place to place to avoid conscription of the children into the army.

I give the Catholic bishops a pass for their actions up until the 1980's. Historically, pedophiles were treated as non-violent individuals with psychological problems. Incarceration was rare, with page after page of offenses listed on rap sheets culminating in probbation and counselling. Moving around these "misguided" folks was common, in all disciplines.

Once the bishops became mandatory reporters, all bets are off, and the violators should be doing hard time.

As for pedophillia in general--take a look at the number of peds that find their way to teaching, child care, and law enforcement. Sickos seek out professions where kids are taught to place their trust. I believe the NYT did a study on the number of peds in the priesthood and found the number to be less than the general public.

Bill Maher sounds like a coward to me. He'll take on the "turn your cheek" crowd but eschews anygroup that might relieve him of his gonads for misplaced humor.

If you can't question Catholicism's practices of widespread child sex, you are no better than Muslims who kill people for drawing cartoons.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:22 PM on 04/14/2008

You are operating out of the bounds of logic when you say that.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:18 PM on 04/14/2008

Getting mad about cartoons and killing for them doesn't make sense in our culture. But raping children is not acceptable to Moslem so or Christians. The thing about some Moslems is they might kill theerson who raped raping children too. They wouldn't be happy to hear that imams and ayatollahs had been part of the crime by hiding it.

Listen to Bill Hicks act about the Branch Davidians. He summed it up nicely something along the lines of "if the Federal government was using children being in danger as their justification for sending in the tanks, there should be a tanks pushing through the doors of Catholic churches across the country."

The primary difference being that the Catholic church has stolen enough stuff over time to pay off anyone who says buggering children and then hiding the priests who did it is WRONG AND EVIL.

The day Jesus' teachings got distorted into a tool to control people for the first time was the day Peter asked someone to kiss his ring. Screw the Catholic church.

Bill is 100% correct. The Priest, Bishops, Pope, and anyone else who aided and abetted the pedophile priests should be in prison. And the Catholic Church should have been prosecuted under the RICO laws.

I'm glad it wasn't Rev. Wright who has been "banging" young boys and covering it up. I think all catholics should denounce then Pope and Catholisism.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:11 PM on 04/14/2008

I guess it does not take much of a brain to post a comment here. You think all Catholics should denouce Catholicism because of some errant Priests ? That's like giving up your car because you had a few bad mechanics or like someone stops drinking beer because of bad bartenders. You are confusing the humans with the theology - you are confusing the human element with the Divine.

ZenCrusader

I am not mixing up anything. You are. You read something literally whn it is meant allegorically. You do not accept other aspects of Christianity or interpretations. All I know is all the cardinals flew to Rome to talk over the problem with the Pope. He did not direct them to come clean and cough up to the victims. Some dioceses transferred funds and declared bankruptcy to avoid paying. My conclusion is that the Pope himself was aware of and condoned the cover up. And since it is a crime which has gone on for centuries, then I have to say that it has nothing to do with doctrine. It is cover up when you read the oath cardinals take when they become cardinals. That oath insures they will cover up. That is fact and that is part of the Roman Catholic Church. Doctrine and cover up are intertwined. Martin Luther created a firestorm when he wanted to debate the abuse of power and corruption of the RC church. A lot of people were killed in the ensuing wars caused by challenging the Roman Catholic Church.
