TMZ has learned that Cameron Diaz's father died suddenly early this morning.

We're told the 58-year-old Emilio Diaz, a popular resident of Seal Beach, Calif., recently developed the flu which then turned into pneumonia. We hear his death was "shocking" as Emilio was in "terrific health." Diaz is currently filming her upcoming flick "My Sister's Keeper." A source on the set tells us production on the film was shut down today.

Emilio was a second generation Cuban-American who worked as a foreman for an oil company. He had a bit part in his daughter's film "There's Something About Mary" as "Jailbird."

Jim Henson also died of pneumonia/flu. Not to mention the millions who died in the worldwide pandemic of 1918. Careful, people--- there's a nasty strain out there. If you develop a fever, see a doctor.
Condolences to the Diaz family, should any of them be listening.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I found your comment about her getting her boob job absolutely disgusting. You should be ashamed. This young woman has just lost her father. What has happened to compassion for other people? Having lost both my parents, my heart goes out to her. Obviously, your heart has no place for anyone but you.

YOU DON'T DIE FROM PNEUMONIA WITH 58 SUDDENLY. SOMETHING IS FISHY. EITHER HIS IMMUNE SYSTEM WAS DOWN TO ZERO BECAUSE OF AN OTHER DISEASE OR SOMETHING WAS
GOING ON AT THAT HOSPITAL.

You're not a very bright person, are you? Not particularly well read, are you? not really very keen on the written word, are you? Huh? For someone with so much to say, given your profile and previous posts, I would think that you might brush up on your education a little. It may help your credibility. I hope you are as young as you sound, otherwise....

Geez. you don't have to insult the person. if you had any valuable information to share it was hard to gather through the mockery. for heavens sake-

You absolutely CAN die of pneumonia and/or the flu. Both conditions must be taken seriously, even by otherwise healthy people. His family has my sympathies.

My sympathies I also lost a parent to pneumonia. You'd think with all the medical research going on, more would have been accomplished in combatting it. Cameron I hope you have fond memories of your father as well as lotsa pictures and video of him as that is all you have left of him now.

My sincere condolences to Ms. Diaz and her family.

The amount of people I have heard of that have succumbed to pneumonia this year is really shocking. It seems to be resistant to all therapy. Didn't help much that the flu shot everyone got did not even cover the horrible strain that went around.

Good-looking guy; sounds like they were pretty close. I know from personal experience losing your folks is rough. I am really hoping that the gossip queens are treating Cam with kid gloves re this one -- Defamer especially picks on this chick like an ex-gf they've kicked to the curb. I thought she was lovely as Shirley MacLaine's granddaughter in "In Her Shoes".
