Scientology

A former Scientologist has left the controversial church of Tom Cruise and is speaking out on YouTube. Jason Beghe is the real-life best fried of David Duchovny, he played Demi Moore's love interest in "G.I. Jane" and has appeared on shows like "Criminal Minds," "Numb3rs" and "CSI."

As Foxnews reports about the Jason Beghe video:

In 2005, Beghe appeared in promotional spots for the Church of Scientology. But now Beghe has escaped the church after taking courses since 1994. He's made a video that's up on YouTube.

This is what he has to say: "Scientology is destructive and a rip-off." He also says: "It's very, very dangerous for your spiritual, psychological, mental, emotional health and evolution. I think it stunts your evolution. If Scientology is real, then something's f----ed up."

You can see from the video that Beghe does not mince words. But his refreshing candor about the religion he joined in 1994 should shake the Celebrity Center to its core. "It ain't deliverin' what it's promised. It sure has not."

The video is billed as a three-minute teaser to a longer interview with Beghe that's on its way. But the short video packs a powerful punch. Beghe still uses a lot of Scientology lingo like "OT" and "clear." Still, it's quite easy to understand the point he's making. After 14 years and a tremendous amount of money, he's seeing Scientology in a different light.

Beghe has completed so many courses that he's considered a top Scientologist, or "OT 5" -- similar to Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Kirstie Alley. But Beghe reveals: "The further up the bridge, the worse you get."

So What? Does celebrity endorsement or assault really mean anything? What is the manner in which we decide on any particular faith?.............................

Yeah, what's up with that? I've noticed the "Extra R Kelly" as I call the poster.

Do you have a stalker? What sort of person stalks an anonymous stranger on a blog/internet magazine? Wait, are you Lindsay Lohan?

Kinda' cool yet twisted, if you happen to be a celebrity, to have people who literally follow you EVERYWHERE. Just plain pathetic, otherwise.

Bravo! It takes a lot of courage to put yourself in the line of fire of the Xenu Lovers. If he thought it was bad when he was "with" them, imagine what it will be like when he is "against" them

I liked this video. Clearly (!) this guy was in DEEP, but is there any other way to fully embrace something? I check out the Scientology introductory video, just to compare it to what I study (EFT - Emotional Freedom Techniques) and I figure there Scientology is about %5 truth and %95 scary nonsense.

What he seems to be saying is that even the highest level people all are still deeply emotionally troubled. And the price you pay to get to their level doesn't sound like it's worth it. I think the books need to be opened on this thing so we can get under the hood and see what's really going on. The fact that they seem to be so paranoid, secretive and controlling of the message is a big clue that somethings rotten here. More power to him.

Any religion that demands and dominates like this one does can not be good for you! It's that simple. I used to be an alcoholic. My days and nights were control by it. Until I finally woke up and broke the cycle. Most religions are the same way for a lot of people. They are addicted to it and give up all control over their own life. That religion tells them how to think, how to act, what's right and wrong, the kind of people to associate with, some even tell you what to eat and weans all the compassion out of them. I think Scientology hates Psychiatry so much because it takes prospective patients away from their mind control theology.

I think it's even simpler than that: Any religion that doesn't make their religious texts public domain doesn't get to be a religion and doesn't get tax-exempt status.

If you've created a religion, which is ostensibly something to improve the lives of its members and the community, does it make sense to lock up the books and charge everyone who comes in the door?

It does if what you're really running is a BUSINESS.

Scientology is no loonier than any of that other superstitious nonsense anyone believes. Over three thousand years of monotheism, not a shred of rational proof.

And more exploitive and dangerous.

The whole Xenu thing is "wacky," alright, but there's nothing wacky about ripping off emotionally and physically vulnerable people, having your OWN PERSONAL NAVY (SeaOrg) and killing cult members. Let's not forget the largest infiltration of the US government to illegally gain tax-free status for charging people hundreds of thousands of dollars to reach OT8.

Just recently, an Australian woman stabbed her father and sister, and tried to kill her mother. Her family were Scientologists who wouldn't allow her to take her psych meds, bc Scientology doesn't believe in psychiatry.

So, yeah, don't give me that whole "they're just as bad as all the other ones."

And, the last I checked, there aren't many other religions that require you to give up your psychologist or psychiatrist and any helpful medications you might need.

Ummm, sorry, but ALL religion is ridiculous. They are all looney --talking freakin' snakes, burning in fire for eternity for making stupid human mistakes, angels, the devil, immaculate conceptions, virgin births, UGH. Please. It's all so stupid as to be comical. ALL religions have done nothing but use brainwashing tactics (i.e. fear and repetition) to keep their followers slaves to their own stupidity. Catholicism is no different than Scientology when it comes to which is more ridiculous or more dangerous.

They'd love for people who aren't going to join to believe that sentiment.

Granted, mainline religions still have occasional charlatans, such as faith healers and televangelists, misuse legitimate church affiliations for self-aggrandizement.

The Scientology is essentially a profit-making enterprise claiming to be a church. My local Catholic church is always asking for money, but they sent an electrician to my house when I could not afford one, picked up the tab and just said donate the money back when I can afford it. Their church school has a low tuition and promises to drop it if you can't afford that. And protestant churches share the characteristic that church services were a service not profit center.

In contrast, $cientology charges "believers" for everything it does. They don't give a break to less affluent members for services they need, they encourage people to go into crazy debt, even steal, to afford "church services." Then average believers are occasionally used as virtual slave labor to serve the church hierarchy and celebrities. And then there is the fact that Scientology has as a core belief that the church has every right to outright lie and commit fraud.

Finally, other religions ADMIT there is an area where faith and science don't meet (as one secular scientist called it- "non-overlapping magisteria"), but Scientology tries to both claim to be BASED on science and yet totally misrepresent science. They even have hostility to the actual science of psychology.

Steve, you are WRONG! Scientology is not just superstitious nonsense. It is a dangerous cult that threatens the lives of those who want to leave. I left the Catholic Church. No one came after me and threatened me. You need to be educated about the evils of Scientology which was founded by a paranoid-schizophrenic who was on psychotropic meds most of his life, and whose cult rails against psychiatry. He died a raving lunatic. The problem is this lunatic "fringe" is now mainstreaming...it has finagled its way into Fox News and our government. I read that Donald Rumsfeld is a Scientologist. You are probably one of them, and your comments are not viewed favorably on this blog.

Look, I'm as thrilled as any other thinking soul when Scientology is exposed as a scam, but face it, the Hubbardites will make mince meat out of this guy without resorting to their usual legalities. They'll claim Beghe is a not-very-good actor who never reached the same career heights as Cruise or Travolta. He joined the Church for the wrong reason, to help his career, not his soul, and now he's bitter.

Mind you, it's not what I'm saying, it's what THEY'LL say. They'll marginalize this cat tout suite.

A year or two that may have been true. But not now because Anonymous, world-wide collective of anti-scientology activists, have Jason's back.

Travolta hasn't been exactly knocking them out of the park lately (and John has limited range as an actor anyway) and Cruise has a maniacal bent to him lately. His last film, Lions for Lambs, bombed badly. All his "Scientology is my God, and I will make it yours!" talk is creeping me (and others) out.

Hail Xenu!

DUH. What a freakin' moron this guy is. It took him 14 years to find out that his religion is a racket? I figured that out at about the age of 6. WAKE UP out of your "god trance" people; stop believing in the ridiculous, and stop giving your hard earned money away to fakes and thieves.

He's an actor. Cut him some slack. They are as a class not the most mentally stable group of people. He is at least trying.

How little you know about mental manipulation and the real con game called Scientology.
There are thousands and thousands of former Scientologists who the cult has essentially terrorized into silence and ytou don't even know why.
Jason Beghe is a courageous man for talking the truth about Scientology and what it's been doing to influence people, the media and the movers and shakers of the world. Watch the complete interview before you jump to conclusions that people have to be morons to join a cult like this. Hitler convinced nearly a whole nation to try and extinguish the jewish race and some of the smartest people became a part of it or ignored the insanity and evilness of what was happening. Educate yourself before you post comments like that or you'll be thought of as the moron you accuse others of.

Google Search keywords Scientology + brain washing manual + hypnosis, and see for yourself.

Jason Beghe is angry. He woke up and saw how he'd been conned by the greatest con game going.

Oh puuuhhhlllleeezzee! In a situation like this, one ALLOWS themselves to be brainwashed, and therefore you're right- I DON'T know about mental manipulation. I have enough sense to know when I'm being conned by "religious" nutcases. This guy went into Scietology willingly. He obviously was missing something in his life and thought Scientology might have the answer. However, after the first time they requested money, he should have had enough sense to realize it was a scam. Also, comparing Scientology with Hitler is ridiculous. Hitler had an army behind him as well as a scapegoat to blame. Scientology has NOTHING. You can walk out the door at ANY time. I do not feel sorry for people who are so weak that it takes them 14 years to realize they've been conned by a church. Just having the name "CHURCH" of Scientology should have been a tipoff. I'm glad he's finally getting his act together, and I wish him luck, but he cannot expect anyone to feel sorry for him for falling for a religious scam. If people haven't realized that ALL religion is a scam by now, there is not much we rational people can do to help them out.
