Obama: Hillary, McCain Using "Very Same Words" Against Me

Barack Obama said yesterday that Hillary Clinton is using attacks from the GOP playbook. Today his campaign circulated a fundraising letter, charging that Hillary Clinton and John McCain are using the "the very same words" to attack him. Obama isn't the only one who says it's two against one. The Washington Post points out that Hillary and John McCain are sounding like they are in an echo chamber when it comes to attacking Obama these days.

Sen. John McCain joined in the criticism of Sen. Barack Obama yesterday for Obama's comments about "bitter" victims of small-town economic distress, while Obama's rival for the Democratic presidential nomination weighed in with a tough new ad on the controversy.

Speaking at a gathering of newspaper editors and executives in Washington, McCain echoed the rebuke voiced repeatedly by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, calling Obama's characterization "a contradiction from what I believe America is all about."

The entire "bitter" brouhaha is a MSM-created non-issue; of all people to point the finger(s) of "elitism", few could hold a candle to either HRC or McNutcase. For McNutcase to say that Obama's statement is "not what the America I know is all about" is probably true, but he just doesn't know much about America or American people, any more than he knows the difference between Iranis and "Persians", Shi'a and al-Qaeda, Shi'a and Sunni, and he probably doesn't even know what a Wahabbi is at all. If your point is correct, then we should be hearing similarly from the people in the room, who, if I'm not mistaken, include people who were other than African-American. If your premise is correct, then we should be hearing from others in that room who were offended in the same way you were.

The "us" in his paraphrased statement "not like us" refers to anyone out of the subject's affinity group (in this case small town/middle America residents).

The remarks that he made had no bigoted or racial components to it whatsoever. If anything, they could be called "classist". It is only because the words came out of the mouth of an African-American that you attach racial qualities to them.

It is this kind of reaction that prevents people of all races from talking about the issues that should unite us. We *should* be talking about why candidates who don't *actually* help Small town/Middle Americans do so well with them.

The foreign policy during Reagan and Bush 41 and Carter and Ford and Nixon relied heavily on diplomacy and talking to the worst of our enemies. That policy served us well. NeoCons changed that. The NeoCon policy of dividing the world into "good" and "evil", and refusing to talk to the evil has been a disaster. Hillary has adopted this disastrous policy. Obama, on the other hand, wants to go back to the old and proven approach of talking to all world leaders without pre-conditions.
