NEW YORK — Martha Stewart's dog Paw Paw, who was a familiar face on her television show and in her magazine, has died of renal failure.

The 60-pound chow, whose full name was Kublai Khan Paw Paw Chow Chow Chow, was almost 13. Stewart had owned him since he was born, and had named him Paw Paw for his large paws, a spokeswoman said.

"Paw Paw was a spectacular chow and an even more spectacular dog," Stewart wrote in a blog post on his death Saturday. "He was always my loyal companion, displaying the most agreeable temperament."

Stewart wrote that Paw Paw was a willing model for the camera, appearing in television commercials and national print ads. She said in his final days, he stopped eating and drifted off into deep sleeps.

She has two other dogs, Sharkey and Francesca, along with several other animals, including cats, horses and donkeys, at her home in Bedford, N.Y.

So sorry for your dogs death. Dogs not only are some of life's best companions but also if we pay attention they are some of the best teachers on how to live one's life.

why is hp limiting itself to reporting on the passing away of man's best friends, when it could report on the passing away of celebrities' cats, their birds, their acquarium fish, even say their house plants. yes their house plants. why discriminate against hourse plants which are too often over watered, moved too often, or smply left to die in soil with insufficient nutrents. the abuse of plants
is widespread, and heretofore unreported ---- this could open up Literally NEW GROUND for hp
and lead the way for a revolution n journalsm where eventually MEET THE PRESS could ntroudce each guest with a report of how well their hosue plants were or were NOT doing...this is far far far more important in terms of global warmng than anyone has imagined.......lets go greeen and hp can lead the way....save the houseplants save the houseplants NOW

I am animal lover. I don't distinguish between dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs. I love all critters, big and small. Losing a pet is a devastating experience, but as far as Heaven goes, I don't believe animals go to Heaven or that people go to Heaven as there is no heaven and no god.

If there was, there would be less suffering in this world and proof of all that there is no God, what God would allow George Bush to be president and not be assassinated before he finished his term

A better question would be: What kind of PEOPLE would allow George Bush to be president. Remember that people have free will and they CHOSE this buffoon/demon TWICE. We have a Supremem Court that INSTALLED this ass into office.

Losing your dog is always an extremely sad affair. I'm not a huge fan of Martha's although I would have been had she followed through with her prison experiences by working for better lives for the women not to mention better sentencing guidelines but nonetheless I feel for her. Whenever we have lost our dogs to the passing of time, there are tears. They want nothing in return but the love they give you.

No matter what kind of day you've had they don't care, they are just wonderfully happy to see you and want nothing but to make your day better.

If there are no dogs in Heaven they can kiss my ass cuz I want to go where the dogs are because you will know it will be a better place. Life is better with a dog.

I wish there was a place our animals go to so that we could join them. Unfortunately there isn't so while they are here with us on this earth, we should love them and enjoy them and learn from them - they live in the moment and live every moment as they know nothing else. If only humans were so smart.

Why do you say that? While I cannot say for sure about anything regarding what happens are we die, I can say that if such a place as heaven exists irrespective of what you envision it to be, if there are no dogs I won't go. I can only hope that if there is such a place I expect to see all my past doggies there. Wouldn't be the same without them.

Not in the least.

And it wouldn't be heaven.

as a dog lover, i have to ask...am i really supposed to care about martha stewart and her pooch? if so, WHY????? what's next, a 3 part article on how demi moore just can't seem to find any good chinese takeout close to home???? i don't want to seem cold, but...please, folks! is it possible for people to pay a little more attention to the folks (2-and-4 legged) around them and less on the lives of celebrities who might as well be living on another planet???? i'm of the opinion that, if we did, there'd be fewer problems for both!

Your screen name is appropriate. I can't believe you are a dog lover at all to be so rude as to comment this way. If you aren't interested in Martha Stewart then it makes no sense for you to not only read the story, but to take the time to make a rude and unnecessary comment. The loss of a dog matters a great deal a person. You might not want to seem cold but you did. And, if less rude and unnecessary comments like yours are made (in all blogs) there would be fewer problems. Shame on you.

I think it is a terrible that dogs only have a life span of 10 years or so and that we humans have to outlive them.

I agree that all dogs go to heaven. How could it be any other way. I would much rather spend eternity with my dogs than many people I know.

So then: How does heaven work? Are we surrounded by the packs of dogs we were friends with on earth?

Or do dogs just do a good job of fooling humans. They don't really like us that much but know where the kibble comes from?

P.S. It is no coincidence that DOG spelled backwards is . . .
