Obama Flag Pin

McClatchy:

Nash McCabe is the voter from Wednesday night's presidential debate who noted that Barack Obama doesn't usually wear a flag pin and asked, "I want to know if you believe in the American flag."

ABC, which hosted the debate, had tracked her down after she was quoted in a New York Times story about white voters in small-town Latrobe, Pa., revealing her as 52, out of work and against Obama.

And furthermore , John McCain ,Mike Huckabee ,Mitt Romney ,Rudolph Guliani ,Hillary Clinton ,none of them wear a flagpin . It was a disgrace how they just beat up on Senator Obama ,and the moderators looked hostile when they asked him these questions, their tone of voice sounded like a repremand. The Wright Pastor question came first, and I said ,o.k ,they will hit him with this then move on,but I was wrong, they piled on and on ' Does your pastor love America like you' I mean it was utterly disgraceful,it made the moderators look like petty little men , at 10.05 pm I tuned out.

I just feel bad for this woman. She has been failed by the education system to the extent that she doesn't even realize what her real problems are - health care, employment, social security (soon).

Hillary fell into the 'flag burning issue' tar pit already. Every day she reminds me more of Joe Lieberman in drag.

Given Nash McCabe's life story, it would indeed make sense that her question should focus on health care, unemployment, or Social Security. But she has clearly had some visceral response to a perceived slight of the American flag by Barack Obama. Doesn't she seem like one of those Pennsylvania voters "clinging" to hot-button issues, despite their best interests?

As pointless as it may seem to you an me, Nash McCabe asked the question that she wanted to ask, and I don't think we should patronizingly point to lack of education as the reason.

I found this question offensive. I think anyone who loves the USA would find this question offensive. If Barack Obama had said as much, I am sure the pundits would have slammed him for losing his cool, but it would have earned him bonus points in my book.

The flag pin question was really the worst question of the night. When Charlie Gibson said: "It keeps coming up, again and again", that was code for "we in the media just won't shut up about this stupid lapel pin BS because we are to lazy to cover real issues..."

Your'e being too kind. Nothing tops the question Do you think Rev Wright Loves America as much as You do. I have Never in all my life heard such a dumb question and I've heard 5 year old ask questions. First of all is Obama a mind reader how the heck is he suppose to know if Wright loves America more than him. I have never seen anything like this. It wasnt a debate it was the Republican party plan of attack come the fall. A pre swiftboating attack coming from a network. If that isnt the makings of a Fascist govermnent I dont know what is.

Absolutely correct. The question is unanswerable. What is he supposed to say? Yes? No? Maybe? I don't know? Of course? Of course not? Huh?

Does one believe in the American Flag?

What is that to you, silly person, a god or something? If so that is blasphemy.

Instead, support and uphold the US Constitution. THAT is the only thing a citizen is required to do.

Otherwise, go to other places where they worship flags and holy books.

Look.

I keep the US Constitution in my jacket pocket. Ask me any time and I can quote better things than "bombs bursting in air" and "land of the free and home of the brave" such as:

Amendment 1. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Amendment 4. " The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

And with some contextual explanation: "Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the United States Constitution, sometimes referred to as the War Powers Clause, vests in the Congress the exclusive power to declare war, in the following wording: To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water"

Gimme that stuff any day over a stupid plastic icon.

The flag is only a SYMBOL of the real thing.

US Constitution "it's the real thing!" And that woman is a stupid person....

Wow, good catch. Hillary may also do some home remodeling in the Constitution, and she may rip out the Family Room and put in a Corporate Office.

Yep.

Appalling, simply appalling! It's people like this woman that's what's wrong with Kansas. She couldn't get a job and her husband was sick without healthcare and she freaking raised hell about whether or not someone wears a flag lapel? WTF????? Unbelievable!!! No wonder the GOP has been so successful manipulating these idiots all these years. WTF??? When they said people without a college degree support Clinton, I think they meant dumb ass people who "cling" onto idiot issues like flag, god, and gun and gay rather than their economic interests and social justice. These people are not just bitter, they are idiots.

We have Low IQ and Low Self Esteem as a people. The republicans have really done a job on the American people they've convinced them that they will never move beyond their medoicre existence and because of their low self eseem they believe it.

Obama has his finger on the pulse of the American people. This is EXACTLY what he is saying they are so beaten down and he is teling them dont let them convince you that you have to settle that you cant have better. NO wonder they flock to him with look of such hope in their eyes that some political pundits are saying its a cult. These people so desperately want to believe. This country is a MESS. We are obsessing over a lapel pin.

Shouldn't the diameter of the flag pin matter?

Try THIS one on for size:

You would think that Mrs McCabe's primary concerns would be about affordabe health care and mine safety. A question about safety in the workplace, for instance, would have been more interesting than one about a lapel pin.

I feel sorry for her and her husband but her reasons for disliking Obama are pretty weak. I guess everyone noticed that neither Hillary nor any of the moderators wore a flag pin on their lapels for the debate.

"Why don't you wear the flag pin"! Is this the foremost thought on your mind? Then ... "Simpletons"!!!!!
I say! Might I suggest reading and alternating your news broadcast source.
