PHILADELPHIA — Barack Obama was greeted by the largest crowd of his campaign Friday night in Philadelphia. Some 35,000 people jammed into Independence Park to see the Democratic presidential candidate, four days before this state's crucial April 22 primary.

Frank Friel, director of security at the Independence Visitor Center, made the official estimate.

The crowd exceed the 30,000 who greeted Obama and Oprah Winfrey in December in Columbia, S.C.

Obama told the crowd the United States is at a crucial moment in its history, much like what the founding fathers faced in Philadelphia.

"It was over 200 years ago that a group of patriots gathered in this city to do something that no one in the world believed they could do," Obama said. "After years of a government that didn't listen to them, or speak for them, or represent their hopes and their dreams, a few humble colonists came to Philadelphia to declare their independence from the tyranny of the British throne."

The Illinois senator called Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton a "tenacious" opponent but said it was time to move beyond the politics of the 1990s.

"Her message comes down to this: We can't really change the say-anything, do-anything, special interest-driven game in Washington, so we might as well choose a candidate who really knows how to play it," Obama said.

Obama is all style and no substance.

Take the teleprompter away from him and he's lost.

That abortion of a debate was a perfect example. Then he whines about the questions.

This man is no leader, he is just a speech maker.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that he's to have large numbers of people disagree with him....

Like, pretty much, everybody.

Times aren't good for BushHuggers.

You are right about one thing: his being a speech maker. 35,000 people agree, they want to hear his speeches. The rest of what you say I've heard before, verbatim.

Jealous?

Calm down because you are going to wake up with a headache every morning for the next 8 years.

Frankly, ohiomark, a leader is someone who is willingly followed.

Somehow, you're missing the point.

Yea I have to agree with you. She has like a 5% chance to win and if she does win she will have no chance since she's bad mouthed move on and will anger everyone if she steals it away.

Get there very, very early. I am probably stating the obvious. When I saw him we got there 5 hours in advance and got an excellent spot, but I heard that folks didn't get in.

Oh, if only he could win Pennsylvania! I know: people say it would be enough if Hillary just doesn't win by very much. But a win there for Obama would be a very great upset and a very great omen for future primaries. I believe in miracles, it could happen!

I am hesitantly hopeful! At first I was so disheartened by the "bitter", flag pin crap, but Barack has managed to turn these non-issues inside out and reveal the fundamental problems of American politics. Winning Pennsylvania would catapult Obama with incredible momentum to fight McSame head on! That's why I'll be making calls to PA voters this weekend...

Oh, and I love the picture of Barack that accompanies this story. It's good to see such fire in his belly after this excruciatingly long primary season.

We are caucusing again tomorrow morning in my county in Washington. We had almost no Hillary delegates from my precinct, but I wonder if the handful of them will show up tomorrow finally being sick of her bullshit. Or if they will even show up at all. One of the few things Hillary has said in this campaign that is true is that a pledged delegate can, in fact, flip. I am not going to try and flip any tomorrow, but they are free to do it if they, perhaps, are tired of being shat upon.

Did you hear that Mr. McCain? 35,000 to listen. People are bitter, trust me their bitter. The RNC can sling all the mud one could grasp, however the public has been beaten enough to realize it's time to move in the direction of the rest of the industrialized world. CHANGE IS A COMING, GET USED TO IT.

I sure hope this is the start of a big weekend for Obama. Apparently the party continued as thousands walked the streets of Philly after the rally.
