McClatchy DC:

The war in Iraq has become "a major debacle" and the outcome "is in doubt" despite improvements in security from the buildup in U.S. forces, according to a highly critical study published Thursday by the Pentagon's premier military educational institute.

The report released by the National Defense University raises fresh doubts about President Bush's projections of a U.S. victory in Iraq just a week after Bush announced that he was suspending U.S. troop reductions.

TO: Pentagon's Educational Military Institute Report of Iraq A Debacle and Outcome Doubtful
April 18, 2008

In past as I could see we were losing before the Surge of Iraq occurred, I had put on blog here the fact the 1648 Westphalia Treaty where after more than two years of negotiations the Thirty Years' war ended.

Coalitions,Large Armies, Superior weapons according to history caused nations to win their wars. Thus we must always keep in Nuclear weapons to keep America in a superior position to defend America. President George Washington, known as a Brilliant Stragegist who won our American Revolution, once stated,"To win a war we must be willing to give up SOME advantages." From American Heritage Foundation.

I love to read about history and my religion of Christianity and thus in the book The New Popular History of the World with foreward by Lowell Thomas, famous journalist from which I state the above reasons why nations won wars above, I want to add some more thoughts ujpon this matter. Sadly I sent the Jolo Isalnd article to some politicians who ignored it for it states diplomatic possibilities to defend America and they never brought up diplomatically the issues. It states that people on Jolo Island accepted the fanatical, militant Moslems who came to their country. From this same book it states,"The code of Moslems says that Moslems are against murder, cruelties against slaves, orphans, and widows.

Eva,

you lost me with the need to keep nuclear weapons on the table. especially considering that after the horror of hiroshima and nagasaki, nuclear weapons are specifically outlawed by the nuremberg accords.

if you and your "enemy" are standing in a room where the floor is covered in gasoline, in the end, does it actually matter how many matches each of you has? it only takes one to do the trick, and BOTH of you go up in flames.

i would also direct you to a book by the yale historian paul kennedy, entitled "the rise and fall of the great powers." every empire, every dominant nation in the world that has fallen in the past, fell because they shifted the strength of the nation to nothing but war, and away from economic strength.

there is much about the muslim faith that americans, and for that matter the rest of the world, doesn't know, and it has been easy to turn it into some kind of hateful monster.

in the end, who wins in a war? all who were affected by it, lose in some way or another.

You sound sincere let me answer you.

Superior weapons as stated above do win Wars and with Nuclear weapons America can be protected with mutual self-destruction . The Pentagon Report stated we are losing Iraq war. We want peace for ourselves and for our children. We want to win.

The problem is what the enemy will do. The enemies' match. We need to defeat the enemy or thousands will die or be tortured. Let it not be us.

Furthermore, there's just and unjust wars. With an unjust War against us we can protect ourselves and comfort ourselves and be free from thousands of Americans being tortured, killed or maimed as American soldiers,Americans and Iraq citizens. If someone has to go let it not be we Americans. Nuclear weapons would deter the enemy especially since our enemy is using an unusual, strange form of fighting as beheadings. The pain can so unbearable that you would have wanted a Nuclear weapon to defeat the fanatical, militant Moslems and end awful pain and pain caused in other ways too (This does not mean all Moslems are bad) or keep them far away from us as Mutual Self-Destruction with Nuclear weapons would do. Please, please don't cause America to be overtaken and defeated by the especially brutal enemy who wants to kill Christians and Jewish people too.

You sound sincere so let me answer you.

I am unaware of the Nuremberg's rules, but until I think it over I can say if we don't have superior weapons we will all be beheaded by the especially brutal enemy of 9/11 who brutally behead people. Imagine all the enemy descending on us to behead or torture or kill us because we gave up the Superior Nuclear weapon to defend ourselves and the enemy won. America must win the War! It is the enemies' match we need to defend ourselves from and mutual self-destruction of having Nuclear weapons would defend America for both sides would not want to start a Nucleal war. Should Israel who is surrounded by enemies give up their Nuclear weapons? I think not. We must prevent tortures, deaths, for ourselves and out children. We must win the war so let it be us.

Let it not be us Americans who get killed, tortured, or maimed for life. Thousands of deaths will be prevented if we have the superio weapon as I stated above one wins wars that way. We need to win a War to prevent thousands of deaths, tortures, and in being maimed for life. We must protect America, our American soldiers and MIA's and Iraqis.

This study couldn’t have come at a better time. With republicans falling all over themselves trying to convince everyone that the surge has worked yet we need to be there longer with more troops than there were before the surge began and the fact that the violence in Basra is portrayed as a victory for Maliki this study does a good job of pointing out how totally wrong Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld really were. The fact that this report is coming from someone who worked under those 2 is even more significant.

Has anyone noticed the GHETTO we're creating in Iraq?

The NAZIS did this in Warsaw.

It makes me SO proud.

Good analogy, it was my first thought too when I saw the story this morning.

Maybe they're just locking them in until W gets the flowers and candy he was expecting for bringing freedom to Iraq.

This is different. I agree we have created a ghetto out of the whole country, but the Warsaw Ghetto was part of the Nazi's Final Solution. That's not happening in Iraq. We haven't sunk quite that low yet.

That's what you think. Go to You Tube and watch the Aaron Russo interview about Nick Rockefeller. Then research the names Paul Warburg , Max Warburg, Eugene Meyer and John McCloy.

By and large, US military leaders have proven themselves to be incompetent, corrupt, and afraid to confrnt each other over issues of war and peace.

It is bush and cheney who are incompetent . They are also spending the US into big trouble. We have lost our good name due to them, in the eyes of the rest of the world. It is like when the USSR was in afganistan and spent there way to the poor house.
thanks w

Hopefully, this will be learning experience for the citizens of this country. Might does not make right. The arrogant attitude far too many Americans had over the invisibility of our military, our super power status, has brought us to this point-five years and counting with no end in sight and in serious financial trouble.

Cool rational heads were not present when talk of invading Iraq came about.
How many people in this country, from politicians on down, thought that Saddam was no match for the sophisticated, highly advanced, US military machine? Yes, Saddam was caught, tried and executed, but then what? How do you plan a war and not take into consideration multiple outcomes? (This was also a first strike offensive, allowing the US more time to better plan the invasion and reconstruction of Iraq). How was it possible that the ethnical divide in Iraq was never addressed when planning for the post invasion?
From its conception, this whole fiasco was flawed, conceived and executed by a gaggle of incompetent, ignorant, fools.

I'm just a middle aged housewife and I knew it was a debacle years ago. Why does it take the so called "experts" so long to figure things out?

It didn't take them long to realise it - just took them a while to stop lying about it.

What difference does it make? The NIE report was scoffed at and then ignored. Chimp and Darth know more than our 16 intelligence agencies. Why on earth would they choose to believe any military assessment from people so clueless about military matters as the Pentagon???

Rice to shun Iran at meeting of Iraq's neighbors
"I don't intend to meet the Iranians, that is not in the plan," Rice told reporters in Washington. "The Iranians will be at the meeting ... but, no, I don't have any plans to meet them."

Simple: because they are genuinely stupid (at best) and you are not!

I recall talking to my colleagues before the war as well, otherwise smart people, but the folks were holy convinced this was the right thing to do; at a level of gullibility I simply could not comprehend.

For me the worst and most disappointing part, though, were the media. They should critically reflect everything that is proposed, discussed, enacted.

They didn't do a damn thing. They lost their mind and brain. Their conscience.
