Richard Quest, CNN Reporter, Arrested On Drug Charges

The New York Post reports on new, lurid details regarding the arrest of CNN reporter Richard Quest.

CNN personality Richard Quest was busted in Central Park early yesterday with some drugs in his pocket, a rope around his neck that was tied to his genitals, and a sex toy in his boot, law-enforcement sources said.[...]

Quest was initially busted for loitering, the source said. Aside from the oddly configured rope, the search also turned up a sex toy inside of his boot, and a small bag of methamphetamine in his left jacket pocket.

It wasn't immediately clear what the rope was for.

The New York Times' City Room blog reports that CNN International business and travel reporter Richard Quest has been arrested on drug charges:

Mr. Quest was arrested early Friday morning after being escorted out of Central Park for violating the park curfew, a law enforcement official said Friday. The park is closed from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

The police noticed Mr. Quest at 64th Street and West Drive at about 3:40 a.m., the official said. As he was being escorted out, he volunteered, "I have meth in my pocket," according to an official briefed on the case. The police searched him and recovered a small amount of methamphetamine in a Ziploc bag.

How is the sex stuff any relation to his arrest? Last I checked, this is America and people are free to have the freedom to tie their balls to their neck with a rope as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else's personal space. He was arrested for the drugs and loitering. I'm glad the Post 'reported' on the extraneous information, and let the NYT focus on why he was arrested.

So Richard Quest is a gay Brit. It is clear that his life is semi-closeted due to CNN that keeps he and Anderson Cooper, son of Gloria Vanderbilt and Social Register Yalie, in that nether world between being known and seen in the gay community but not to the community at large.

I am saddened by both gays and straights who are addicted to drugs. I have never had them...save for pain alleviation when undergoing a quadruple cardiac bypass graft.

Please be kind. Sexual appetites of straights and gay men and women vary.

You're right. I was immediately tempted to laugh at him because it just sounds so "out threre", but in reality, he does a good job for CNN doing light (often over-the-top with enthusiasm) coverage on British entertainment items.

And, really, his sexual preferences and practices aren't any of my business, nor are they a crime. I'm surprised the police made all this public. He seems like a very vulnerable person. Hopefully, he can bounce back from the public, and professional humiliation, and obvious drug problem. Hopefully, as you say, people will be kind to someone who's clearly got a lot of struggles ahead.

I certainly like these stories a hell of a lot better when it's a self-rightious, born-again preacher getting busted instead, dammit!
