Sunday's Washington Post features a front-page story examining the notorious temper of Sen. John McCain, including a first-hand account of McCain's physical altercation with fellow GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley.

It was early 1992, and the occasion was an informal gathering of a select committee investigating lingering issues about Vietnam War prisoners and those missing in action, most notably whether any American servicemen were still being held by the Vietnamese. It is unclear precisely what issue set off McCain that day. But at some point, he mocked Grassley to his face and used a profanity to describe him. Grassley stood and, according to two participants at the meeting, told McCain, "I don't have to take this. I think you should apologize."

McCain refused and stood to face Grassley. "There was some shouting and shoving between them, but no punches," recalls a spectator, who said that Nebraska Democrat Bob Kerrey helped break up the altercation.

Earlier this month, The Huffington Post first reported on charges leveled in Cliff Schecter's book, The Real McCain, that McCain had physically attacked GOP Arizona Rep. Rick Renzi. At the time, McCain issued a non-denial denial, saying the reports about his temper were either "false or exaggerated."

But in the Washington Post today, McCain aide Mark Salter confirmed that Renzi and McCain had a very heated exchange:

Reports recently surfaced of Rep. Rick Renzi, an Arizona Republican, taking offense when McCain called him "boy" once too often during a 2006 meeting, a story that McCain aides confirm while playing down its importance. "Renzi flared and he was prickly," McCain strategist Mark Salter said. "But there were no punches thrown or anything."

A McCain Administration could look like Grumpy Old Men 3, or could that be 4 since Cheney nominated himself VP, as the chair of the RNC VP steering committee and the Republican appointed activist judges on the Court violated states rights (neo- Federalism) to install our current dry drunk frat boy president who can’t seem to wipe himself without Cheney.

Ironically I could have supported the Old McCain, no pun intended 8 years ago, when he called the snake oil salesman religious wrong leadership, “agents of intolence” and now the New McCain can’t kiss their behinds enough and they are some big behinds, life is good in religion land. Notice how not one these BS artist are hurting for money, the word of God is big business.

McCain isn’t a bad guy, but he has truly lost his way as the GOP has, the straight talk express is in a ditch, come to think of it, so is nation “my fiends.”

Fair enough, but what do we do about the Republicans.

I'm from Iowa and I seriously doubt this story. Chuck Grassley has never stood for ANYTHING!

I'd love to see "fightin' Hillary" go at it with "jabbin' Johnnie." Maybe they'd knock each other out.

Then they'd leave the rest of us alone.

Two old coots who belong in the 20th century!

I was a Senate floor staffer when McCain offered five amendments as the minority member of the Commerce Committee under Chairman Fritz Hollings. Hollings wasn't present at the time, and his three staffers gave him a thumbs down to let him know that the Chairman hadn't approved those amendments. McCain called for a quorum, and then steamily, in front of me, castigated those staffers, saying the F word more than I had ever heard in any sentence, any paragraph in my life. Each time he said the F word he spit at those staffers, and as I was right in front of them, I could see these men, red faced, and practically with tears running down their cheeks. If his words were a gun, they would have been slaughtered in front of me. I can relate those words he said, and I will never forget them. Being that it was "off the Record," no one will ever be able to corroborate them. But I was there. And I will never forget.

To many people are being fooled by this grand pappy approach McCain is using right now. If he should become president, you would see a totally different person.I find him to be a very dangerous person for this country to have as president. He has problems just like Bush, and they are not beneficial for this country.

Oh, I can not wait to see the final campaign between Obama and McCain, and McCain calling that young whippersnapper you know what. We need some good music to orchestrate that. Maybe a movie with a lot of dancing and shadow footwork. Two gangs operating. Obama, Obama, Obama! Wonder if they both dance well enough for this musical. Hm, now, but who is really pulling the strings to make these puppets dance? It is like a wajang puppet theatre. Shadows of the puppets, Puppeteers pulling the strings. One storyline told, and another storyline right underneath that. Hehe, but right before Christmas we will have Peace on Earth Again, and one bloodied, but triumphant President. By the way, this is another case for getting rid of the male hormones and vote for a woman this time. But wait, this could get interesting if Obama is elected President, and McCain is senator and gets into fistycuffs with Mr. President. How would he do it? Do you think McCain would tackle him first, and then punch him...*good*? Let us think up some juicy scenarios. I think they should come into an arena, on horseback, like in an opera in Verona. Heh, finally some action!

McCain has problems with his arms because of the torture he received at the hands of the North Vietnamese. I doubt he can throw a real punch because he cannot fully extend his arms.

You shouldn't make fun of Mc Bush that way; it's wrong.
He's wrong for the job, but he did suffer a lot over there.
Death would have been preferable to the treatment some of our guys received in captivity.
That's why I can't understand this guy liking war so much and being OK with torture.
He, of all people; Oh well, I won't be voting for him, and so will a lot of other people, I hope.

Torture victims like John McCain have to undergo psychotherapy for years. Is he still in therapy?

Common after-effects of torture are: chronic pain in joints and muscles, severe depression, anxiety, intense and incessant nightmares, guilt, self-hatred, impaired memory, inability to concentrate, inability to form and maintain meaningful relationships, frequent thoughts of suicide. New stresses can can instensify the trauma.

I think people should consider this carefully.

Very good point. It's one thing to have a temper, but he really has serious issues. The idea of McCain being President even scares some of my very conservative friends. They're are not trying to be being mean either.

Yes, picture him in some tense conference with life or death issues, not just a simple difference of opinion, and try to tell me he is safe to have his finger on the bomb??? Every person who plans to vote for this guy needs to think long and hard about this problem of his. Is he dependable enough - even though his behavior results form his treatment as a POW, and thast makes me very sad for him. But, the fact remains, can we safely have someone with their finger on the bomb who is that touchy? I wrote in his name in the 2004 election just because I knew George Bush to be nothing but a Texas playboy. Unfortunately I knew Bush all too well after living so long in Texas. But this election cycle is different. Since McCain has a chance to win. this time, I shall vote for anyone but McCain, whoever that is.

How many times does McCain have to mix up sunni, and shite before we say he doesn't know what the hell he is talking about when it come to Iraq. He doesn't know about AlQaeda in Iraq, making yet more incorrect statements that they are being trained by Iran. He had to be corrected by Leibermann, about this in front of internatonal televison cameras. It seems now that Libermanns job is following around the old man, John McCain, and correcting McCain's mistakes (alot of times in front of t.v. cameras). And of course McCain still continues to be clueless about Iraq, getting Sunni, and Shite, wrong while speaking to General P the other day.
Is Joe Libermann going to follow McCain into every meeting correcting McCain's mistakes, is he going to be listening on every phone call to make sure that John McCain is being correct in what he is saying.
John McCain, knows nothing about the economy, so who is going to be following him into every meeting whispering into his ear., correcting his mistakes.
The economy, and the war are the TOP issues in this presidential campaign, YET people want to elect somone who knows NOTHING about any of it.
McCain with his OBVIOUS lack of knowledge, a man who also has such a bad temper that he has called his own wife a trallop, and a whore infront of both staff members, and reporters. THIS is the man people want to elect as a president!!!

Which candidate has displayed no conscience in this nomination process?

Can u believe in someone with zero credibility and zero conscience?

Can u let somebody who exhibits desperation run your life?

Make a clear and rational choice between all 3 available nominees now! Remember u don't get another choice for 4 years.

PLEASE DO NOT VOTE RACE OR GENDER!!!!!!!

Sometimes four years is a long time to wait to correct a mistake you feel you shouldn't have made. And sometimes, two years in, you realize you've been had--again!

I NEVER read any crap from Faux news. I would have to divide by 10,000 and subtract 9,999 before reaching the truth in any news they put out. Nice try but most of us here are brighter than that. Not that I plan to vote for Clinton but your hit job is a waste of time. We here are far too smart for that.
