Based on new financial disclosure reports released Sunday, and interviews with his finance team, the Republican Party's presumptive nominee will instead accept taxpayer money to finance his general election and share other costs with the Republican National Committee.

Public financing directly via a willing ecstatic energized public or a public financing via a big government's program of picking the pockets of already pressured taxpayers. Hmmm. I thought McCain and his republican cronies would not only marvel but do somersaults for the opportunity to be in the laissez faire camp.

Now that the decision has been made, John McCentury will do his best to beat up Obama on the public financing issue. Obama should simply counter back that his campaign is publicly financed by donations of less than $100 from all over America. That IS public financing.

So, does this mean I have to contribute to McCain even though I've already given to Obama? Somebody please get me some tea to dump into the harbor.

Yes but I urge Senator Obama not to accept public financing ,the reason : John McCain will have all the right wing Republican 527s on his side who will be unlimited on the amount of money they can spend to spread lies ,distortion and sleaze. These Republican 527s will have the backing of corporate America and all the thousands of lobbists with big pockets. The reason why McCain is accepting public financing is because he saw how much money Senator Obama has raised, almost a quarter billion dollars[$236 million} and this is just the primary. If Senator Obama should now accept public financing the Republicans would overwhelm him in the fall.

McCain can't raise more than public financing. By the way, Obama is publically financed. 1.5 million individuals giving small donations. By choice not through their taxes.

After he claimed he didn't need it? A report in both WaPo and the NY Times claims his backers are playing catchup, nothing about this.
