Appearing with a group of college students on Fox News over yesterday, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said that a lot of young people "drink the Kool-Aid" of Obama's speeches, prompting the reporter to say "you're suggesting that they're being suckered."

Watch Rendell talk about how youth are responding to Obama, and watch some of the students push back:

What a snake oil salesman Rendell would make!
I'm 56 and can assure you I'm not drinking any kool aid. I voted for Obama because of the two he may be a fibber as all pols are but she is a shameless LIAR. There isn't a nickels difference in their policies so I took the lesser of two evils and voted Obama. There are so many things Obama could have slammed Hillary with but didn't, you have to admire him his restraint. I guarantee such restraint won't be in evidence if she makes it to the big show against the right wing. They will hammer her mercilessly on her so called experience while she was waiting on Bill's 3 AM phone call. You've heard it all before but you will hear it all again, only this time she'll be the total focus of the right wing hit machine. They have a handful of crap to throw at Obama, they have a decade and a half of ammunition for Hillary.

The Hillary Clinton team is noxious. Ed Rendell "let slip" his kool-aid comments in the same way he let slip his belief that white men in Pennsylvania would not vote for a Black man (effectively saying his own constituents are racist). Clintonite James Carville put it slightly differently, in the middle of Pennsylvania is "Alabama" which is code for white racism. Writers like Nora Ephron have come out and analyzed this phenomenon as what it is -- racism. It is not just about white working-class men being undecided; it is whether Sen. Obama can get white men to treat him as equal. After the Selma to Montgomery March, MLK delivered his, "How Long, Not Long" speech; the civil rights movement, activism, and King's great oratory gave way to the 1965 Voting Rights Act. When King answered his rhetorical question "How Long?" his answer was ("not long". Yet, white racism permeates the American social fabric but all the media wants to do is find some Black folk who seems to say radical things (e.g. Wright) and they play it 7/24. The cable networks are the worst; they are such poor excuses for journalism. (They feign innocence by claiming media is always blamed when the candidates face problems; this is no answer to the media role in framing issues, inventing crisis, fuelling mass hysteria, and reinforcing popular ignorance rather than clarifying issues .) Why doesn't the media name comments like Rendell's for what it is - old-fashion bigotry

I think he is right on the money here, young people that don't follow politics or know the history of this country always drink the kool-aid. They'll find out soon enough that Obama is just another politician and by setting expectations so high on changing Washington will be good to get in but looked at as disappointing in 4 years.

Washington won't be changed by Obama, Clinton or McCain. The only way it can be changed is by dumping the current house & senate members. I have seen many polls though that states say they like "their guy" but hate what they do as a whole.

they did. i guess you don't follow the new. in 2006 most of the republicans was voted out. however bush is able to veto and bills he don't like. there we next a president that will not stop the change.

I'm not talking party lines, I'm talking people that have been there for ever like Ted K. Having one party in all 3 branches always leads to trouble no matter which one it is.

Rendall speaks of young people drinking the kool-aid of Obama's speaches. Conversely, could older people be drinking the kool-aid of Hillary's speaches?

people out of a job that support her when she helped pass NAFTA... when they are profiting from CAFTA???

I think those may be some kool aid drinkers!

Gov. Rendell's speech http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DXum_-8I1TA before the Nation of Islam and the Rev Farrakhan has a certain flavor about it too; I prefer Obama's speeches myself.

I think Gov. Rendell might be wrong on the educational bill. He made it sound as if HRC wrote the bill, when in actual fact she and Obama were both co-sponsors of the bill. The Original bill was written by Sen Kennedy, Edward M. [MA] and introduced 6/18/2007.

There are several reasons why he tends to not be able to get many of the more populous states and that is because the old Democratic machine has been in place for Hillary for a long long time. The heavy snow melts around the ice bergs but the ice bergs take longer to melt. He has to be around a bit longer to melt them. He has a lot of incredible melting ability in places like North Carolina, Georgia, Minnesota, Connecticut, , Illinois, Washington, Virginia and it looks like he has a strong showing in states like South Carolina and Indiana. Hillary Clinton keeps moving the goal posts as her campaign shifts.

Barack represents the future of America. Hillary symbolizes the past. It's time to move into the 21st century and to reject the lying, deceitful politics of the past of which Hillary Clinton has been corrupted by.

I agree with Rendell. We've seen it too many times before. In fact, I voted for Dukakis myself. Apparentlly, the only good votes I made were for Clinton, sense all those other guys failed, God bless 'em. I still like Carter, but...

I'm sick of people comparing Barack Obama to people like Dukakis, Jimmy Carter and others as ineffective. That's a load of bullshit. He is vastly different than these two men. Just because he does not wear his credentials on his sleeve like Hillary embellishes with her so called "experience" does not mean he does not have the ability or the experience to lead the country effectively.

Governor Rendell is 1000% correct, when he asked a group of students (on television) if they
could name one thing Obama has done for them, or where he stands on any issue, they could not.
And Governor Rendell informed them, that is Hillary who has done things that directly help them
with paying their tuition and getting student aid. Obama has done nothing for them, and they
have drank the Kool-Aid and they are incapable of seeing Obama for what he is - an arrogrant,
cocky opportunist and an empty suit.

I guess we should ask the young people also who is secret lobbying for these dispicable trade deals that are pushing jobs out of our country....

GW is trying to get Congree to pass these agreements, and Bill is making almost a million bucks supporting it... and good ol Penn is out lobbying for it... and if Sen Clinton didn't know about this, then she has bigger problems than I originally thought...

I guess that old, I was against NAFTA behind closed doors deal comes into play again... well, Hillary, unfortunately what I see outside of the doors is what actually got things done... she pushed people to support NAFTA and now look, our country is in shambles... she is not solely responsible, but she played a huge part in it!

Name one president that didn't have an air about themselves. Is it because his race? Hillary nose is so high she don't realize that she's hurting the Democratics (Throwing the Kitchen Sink crap) Obama is the most down to earth nominee that I've seen.

These students are very intelligent and open minded to know when someone is sincere and Clinton is defintely not that. Not once did Hillary said anything about helping these students who are trying to get an education but once they graduate they would be in debt. And the look at the economy these kids went to college to come out making nothing. At least Obama given them new ideas and hope for the future and these kids are tired of the same ole thing and she's not different then the Bushes.

The sad part about all the hillbillies amnesia, is that back in 1992 I remember vividly Bill Clinton coming to the University of Oregon during the election, and 80% of the crowd was college age people. Bill had the band Cherry Poppin Daddies as his opening act, a very hip Oregon band, very modern rock (read: college radio). Bill played sax with the Daddies, just to prove he was a hep cat, just like you. Bill was the only person to appear on MTV, to court young voters, a decision that definately cost Bush votes. As most hillbillies have watched the documentary of Bill getting elected in '92, then you remember Carville and Stephanopoulos actively courting the youth vote, and making sure, during Bill's acceptance speech, that he -specifically- thank the youth vote for coming out and voting. I remember being 23 and voting in Oregon in '92, and remembering that there was a lot of people my age voting, at least 30-40% in Eugene, and I thought 'strength in numbers, indeed' back then. But now, everyone under 25 is an idiot who drops acid everyday, and the only time they leave their bedroom and their bong is to hang out at caucus' for 18 hours and intimidate hillbillies. At least the prius and latte is correct, but if course since we're liberal it's fair trade, organic coffee. Why must these lame moveon types CARE so much about the environment and other peoples welfare? It's sooooo not Reagan Democrat.

Is it just me, or is it sort of ironic that the cultural reference Clinton and her supporters use to disparage Obama's "youthful" supporters is a dinosaur?

Take heart -- drinking the Kool-Aid can have a broader, dare I say mind-expanding, meaning. Maybe the Clinton crowd is actually just expressing remorse that they are too establishment now to get a seat on the electric bus.
