Appearing with a group of college students on Fox News over yesterday, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said that a lot of young people "drink the Kool-Aid" of Obama's speeches, prompting the reporter to say "you're suggesting that they're being suckered."

Watch Rendell talk about how youth are responding to Obama, and watch some of the students push back:

How do you know Rendell didn't smoke crack? How do I know if you're not smoking crack right now! What a lame comment.

I am proud of the young people that have been inspired to be active in this presidential campaign. That is something to be celebrated, not insulted.

Me too. And as in the anti-war protests in the Viet Nam war era, it is the young people who were in the forefront and had to bring the adults along. It was hard work. I think there's something about this phenomenon in the Bible.

Ugh! I've been trying to not view the Clinton campaign as divisive. I've been assuming the posts by Clinton supporters referring to kool-aid and Obamabots were not representative of her campaign's attitude. I know that supporters of any candidate tend to get a little over the top, especially in nice, anonymous comment boards. I find Rendell using this kind of language very disturbing. It makes me think that the Clinton campaign really doesn't get Obama's appeal, which may explain why they've been losing to him. It also brings up the question of whether Clinton and her surrogates would ever be able to turn out the youth vote the way Obama has.

He's right. And once they drink their Kool-Aid they come to HuffPost and blather on and on about how great Obama is and how Hillary is Darth Vader's understudy regardless of the story in front of them. I support Obama too, but honestly kids it's way past time for you to direct your wrath and talents at McCain.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:03 PM on 04/21/2008

Gary, I couldn't agree more about needing to direct attacks at McCain, but when you are getting pummeled by your democratic opponent, you need to respond, and when Hillary et al behave so atrociously, we feel the need to respond with anger. I, for one, am so thoroughly disgusted by her, it is going to be a long time before I can look at a picture of her and not be repulsed.

Thanks for the kind response. Vent at will, just remember the repubs are masters at taking advantage of every opportunity. They're not lying around doing nothing while you're focused on Hillary. And I really do hope your anger and rage take a major leap upward once you do focus on McCain because he is way worse. There's way too much at stake in the general election - whatever is going on now pales in comparison.

Sentiment shared.

What people have found so "disgusting" about her campaign is unfounded, fake outrage, driven by misleading headlines and soundbites.

It's funny how the thing that gets ignored day after day, is the WRATH against Hillary, particularly in the blogosphere. "Bros before Hoes", "Hitlery", "The Rovian Playbook" and the Clinton "Machine".
Every waking hour on Huffpo someone is saying something false and dispicable about her based on years of the MSM conditioning the public to hate her, and "beat the bitch". On the left and the right.

Clinton 51 / McCain 49

Another example of whining. Ed Rendell is complaining that Obama gets the youth vote as if young voters don't have the ability to make up their own mind about who they'll vote for. Astonishing. I am sure Hillary supporters will try and spin this; even Luntz had to say something and he's a Republican on fixed news. To call youth voters ignorant which is essentially what Rendell did by saying they drink Obama-aid is insulting and another reason many Obama supporters will use as a reason not to vote for Hillary if she ends up being the nominee.

So....is that why so many senators, representatives, governors, and other superdelegates have endorsed OBama? Because they are drinking kool-aid?

How insulting.

Obama has really great minds on his team, a focus that Clinton lacks, true leadership with his campaign staff, and an ability to make Democrats want to get involved like never before.

How many of you Hillary supporters have sent in a contribution? I bet most Obama supporters on this site have sent in money to the OBama campaign. I have.

It is no accident that the old and uneducated are buying Hillary's line while those whose minds have not yet shriveled up are backing OBama.

None of these candidates have been the CEO of any organization but their Senate offices. So if you want to know who demonstrates an ability to manage an organization study the campaigns. Sen. Clinton's is unfortunately a house divided, a revolving door for staff and is deeply indepted. Sen. McCain is trying to cope with his fund-raising deficit by moving away from the McCain - Feingold (yes, his own) rules on campaign finance. Sen. Obama has a grassroots organization that is performing well that no one, esp. his opponent, thought could get him past Iowa . This is one of the influences that has caused me to move to Obama.

She stopped her campaign to go back to Washington. To do what Ed? Write up a bill so she could say hey I did this for you. It appears that if she cared about college kids she would have done it a long time ago, not in the middle of her campaign to get youth votes, once she saw what was happening.

Right, and all those "stupid college kids" drank the "oppose the war in Vietnam" coolaid a long time ago. "What do college kids know?" Old arrogant people love to pull the "with age comes wisdom - so shuttup 'cause i'm always right" bit as if the young poeple don't see any vested interest there.

This sounds like an argument against education - learning makes you gullable, right? Next you'll say that college graduates are part of Obama's base because they're stupid too. We've read this before: "War is peace, freedom is slavery, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH"

Is it that excitement and expectation of a better country are immature fantasies? And you're telling us not to be fooled because reality is gloomy and hopeless?

Well, i'm gonna go and try to induce retardation on myself so I can be as brilliant as Rendell. And, no, i'm sure he hasn't drank any Hillary Coolaid.

That was truly condescending. He also failed to mention that his gal Hillary didn't have time, while campaigning in Virginia, to vote on the FISA bill put forth by Dodd. WHy was that? Perhaps for the same reason she made sure to vote on college loans: politics. Avoid one to avoid taking a stance and make one because it's popular in a demographic you're losing big.

She and her main PA surrogate are vile.

What condescending horseshit. No wonder he seems so in tune with Hillary. Now they are not only more worthy, they are smarter than us. Which would explain why they lie, and then when they get caught, lie again.

Hey Rendell, you and Hillary both suck.

The sad part about all the hillbillies amnesia, is that back in 1992 I remember vividly Bill Clinton coming to the University of Oregon during the election, and 80% of the crowd was college age people. Bill had the band Cherry Poppin Daddies as his opening act, a very hip Oregon band, very modern rock (read: college radio). Bill played sax with the Daddies, just to prove he was a hep cat, just like you. Bill was the only person to appear on MTV, to court young voters, a decision that definately cost Bush votes. As most hillbillies have watched the documentary of Bill getting elected in '92, then you remember Carville and Stephanopoulos actively courting the youth vote, and making sure, during Bill's acceptance speech, that he -specifically- thank the youth vote for coming out and voting. I remember being 23 and voting in Oregon in '92, and remembering that there was a lot of people my age voting, at least 30-40% in Eugene, and I thought 'strength in numbers, indeed' back then. But now, everyone under 25 is an idiot who drops acid everyday, and the only time they leave their bedroom and their bong is to hang out at caucus' for 18 hours and intimidate hillbillies. At least the prius and latte is correct, but if course since we're liberal it's fair trade, organic coffee. Why must these lame moveon types CARE so much about the environment and other peoples welfare? It's sooooo not Reagan Democrat.

A little to much drugs when you were in college?? Since you so vividly remember how you felt about Bill Clinton in your college days, then you SHOULD certainly be able to allow these same feelings abound in our college age students today. To try to take that away from them is just downright assinine.
