Scroll down for Barack Obama's response to Bill Clinton's "race card" comments:

In a radio interview posted Monday, Bill Clinton claimed that Barack Obama's campaign has "played the race card on me." (Scroll down for audio). According to ABC News, Clinton was

"talking to station WHYY about the fallout over his comparison of Obama's South Carolina primary victory with the support of black Democrats to Jesse Jackson's primary wins. Those comments were portrayed by critics as an attempt to highlight Obama's race."

Clinton told the interviewer that "you have to really go some to play the race card on me." Clinton then lists the reasons why no one should portray him as a racist. He includes the fact that he has an "office in Harlem, and Harlem voted for Hillary, by the way." He goes on to say, "I have 1.4 Million people around the world, mostly people of color... on the world's least expensive AIDS drugs...."

At the very end of the interview, when Bill thinks he is no longer on the line, you can hear him saying, "I don't think I should take any shit from anybody on that, do you?"

Listen to the interview below:

Update: Obama was asked about Clinton's comments on WHYY today:

The Politico has the full exchange:

"Hold on a second, so former president Clinton dismissed my victory in South Carolina as being similar to Jesse Jackson and he's suggesting that somehow I had something to do with it? Ok, well then you better ask him about it," Obama said.

Story continues below

He was asked if, as Clinton said, his campaign had a secret plan to use race.

"Was there something that we had a plan to get him to say that my campaign was like Jesse Jackson's? I don't know what he is referring to unfortunately," he said, laughing.

Update: Questioned about the comments later in the day, Bill Clinton denied making them, and castigated the media for making hay over the issue. "I'm not going to play your games," he said. Full transcript below.

NBC/NJ: "Sir, what did you mean yesterday when you said that the Obama campaign was playing the race card on you?"

CLINTON: "When did I say that, and to whom did I say that?"

NBC/NJ: "On WHYY radio yesterday"

CLINTON: "No, no, no. That's not what I said. You always follow me around and play these little games, and I'm not going to play your games today. This is a day about election day. Go back and see what the question was, and what my answer was. You have mischaracterized it to get another cheap story to divert the American people from the real urgent issues before us, and I choose not to play your game today. Have a nice day."

NBC/NJ: "Respectfully sir, though, you did say ..."

CLINTON: "Have a nice day." [continues shaking hands with supporters]. I said what I said, you can go and look at the interview. And if you'll be real honest, you'll also report what the question was and what the answer was."

NBC/NJ: "They asked you if you regretted your comparing Jesse Jackson to Barack Obama on the day after the South Carolina primary."

CLINTON: "And I pointed out that I did not do that, and that I complimented them both. And that Jesse Jackson took no offense. And I called him myself, I said, 'Did you find that offensive?' And he said no.

Bill Clinton probably has the early signs of neurosyphilis. No wonder he has memory lapses. You would think in this era of modern medicine he'd have a better doctor but perhaps he likes "down home medicine" for the bad vapors that he foreswooth. Please do us a favor Clintons. Go away and don't let the door hit your lying asses on the way out. And oh, please take your surrogates with you.

The couple of liars. Too bad there are plenty of videos, and recordings in this day an age. They are truly pathetic. There goes what little legacy he had left. Now, we'll remember them as some of the biggest liars in the White House.
"I never had sex with that woman" Now I see the pattern. His wife isn't any better. When she is not busy dodging bullets, she is busy pushing NAFTA.
Disgusting!

One thing that Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton have in common. They both use the word "I" more than any persons I've ever known. Conversely, their use of the word "we" is alarmingly scant.

Perhaps he's gotten tired and forgetful. Happens when you let the polsters and focus groups take all the thinking out of your life. The brain is an organ that needs to be exercised like any other.

Guess both Hillary and Bill are getting so old that they cling to their poor memories of what they think they said. Next both will adamantly insist they used to walk 5 miles to school through 3 feet of snow uphill both ways, despite seeing themselves on video riding the bus.

Bill, "Get off my lawn, you kids!"
Shakes cane.

One day Bill Clinton will face a reckoning with the American people. He lies constantly. He and Hillary have shown Democratic voters exactly why Republicans have hated them so much. They are dirty politicians who do anything to win, lie and deny, and do it all again.

Enough of the dispicable Clintons!

I don't really think Bill cares about what the people feel about him. But he darn sure will have to worry when his day of reckoning comes when he has to face his Maker.

Bill is pissed because he has to deliver on the bribes - oops "speaking fees" - he's taken, and unless he can get his co-conspirator in, the gravy train will stop.

Everything he said was a FACT and the Obama camp DID pull the race card on him. Obama supporters are not true Democrats. What next--are you going to turn your disrespect on FDR too?

I would consider Obama supporters to be truer democrats than Clinton. Just look at the attempts by Clinton to change the outcome from the will of the people (i.e. popular vote, delegates, most states, etc.). She is expecting to bailed out by high roller political connections - which has NOTHING to do with the democratic process.

Bill was embarrassed by his comments, you should be too.

timinhi: I am assuming you are an intelligent person. They RECORDED his comments. He DENIED he made them. Come on, I understand you support them. But, if he would've said, "yes, I said so and so, because so and so" there would not be an argument. They got him on film and tape, and he DENIES it. You have to admit the guy is unbalanced.
Cheers!

Let us not get into confusing Bill Clinton with FDR.

FDR was one of the five greatest presidents.

Bill is one of the 20 greatest presidents. Bit of a spread there, sparky.

FDR - Greatest genocide denier. Lied to the people about the War, Declared the Atlantic all the way to the Azores as U.S. territorial waters. Lied to the public about the Flying Tigers. Did nothing to help save Holocaust victims. Sold out Easten Europe to Uncle Joe. Knew he was dying but ran for another term anyway. Interred Japaneese Americans..........................

As a democrat he makes me puke.

Uuuuhhh, it was Bill who said if it were republican rules, Hillary would be ahead.
It was Hilly who praised McCain as ready to lead.
It was Bill and Hill who lie repeatedly.
Are you in denial?
Do you take a Clinton word over videotape evidence?
Call me. I know of a bridge for sale.

Let's clear some things up.
1. Clinton's first choice for his office was not Harlem. He went to Harlem after a scolding from the
American people.
2. Clinton's foundation accepts the least expensive drug at the exclusion of getting the best drug for
the people. His foundation had to come back and ask for the gold standard
after finding out that the generic version (made in India), cost more than the branded one.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:18 PM on 04/22/2008

You are correct ,Clinton's first choice was an office building around Columbus Circle in Midtown Manattan ,a high rent area. The federal Government balked at the cost and refused to pay the high rent. Harlem congressman Chalie Rangel then suggested a New York State-owned building that located in central Harlem.

Yup and google "clinton blogger lunch" he invited a bunch of bloggers to that office in Harlem but oops couldn't find a single black blogger to attend. The only black people there that day were the help serving up the white folks their soul food lunch. I'm not joking. He had soul food served but no black bloggers to be found in all of the US or even NYC.

What does Clinton mean when he says "I have these people on drugs"... very egocentric view of projects other people have paid for and other people have implemented.

If the press had any integrity, would they investigate the Clinton Foundation and find that it is a front through which money passes with a high overhead charge, an unecessary, middleman that simply takes a percentage with no value added?

His foundation is nothing but a tax shelter. Follow the money. Follow the $109,000.000. you would be surprised where it takes you. Some times it takes you to Dubai, some times to Colombia. Only the Clinton clingers cannot see the corruption.
