Chris Matthew started off the Pennsylvania primary coverage with a bang tonight. Shortly after 6, seated by co-anchor Keith Olbermann, Matthews called the primary, and thus his coverage tonight, basically moot. "This contest is essentially over," he proclaims to Keith. "Barack Obama is going to win the most elected delegates."

He went on to say of the media, "Trying to keep this game going, we've created the delusion that somehow this race is still open."

Chris Matthews is just plain wrong. Obama can not reach the number of pledge delegates needed to secure the nomiation in the remaining primaries. The job of the superdelegates is to insure that the candidate who can win the general election is the candidate who wins the nomination.
Say all you want about the numbers, the truth of the matter is, when the delegates get to Denver they may decide that Hillary is the better candidate to go against McCain. And it's not changing the rules...those are the existing rules.

Neither Hillary or Obama will reach 2025, but Obama, when this is all said and done, will be a lot closer. And he will have other arguments in his favor. Hillary will have Rovian arguments and Bush math.

And while your explanation of the SDs purpose carries truth, do you really think most SDs will overturn the elected delegate and popular vote wins of Obama to favor Hillary? Keep dreaming. You argue that they would do so because they may perceive Hillary as being more electable against McCain. Well, she isn't going to be very electable if the Party turns it's back on as usurps the will of black voters, first time voters, progressive liberals, young Democrats, as well as any other individuals or groups who have engaged in the primary in support of Obama. Many of these folks, foolish or not, will be loathe to vote for Hillary and may just to elect to sit out of a process that has essentially already informed them that they vote is worthless, and certainly to the Democratic party.

Also, if you think that independents or Barack-favoring Republicans will vote for Hillary - someone they will perceive, and rightly so, as an illegitimate candidate who trampled the entire democratic process in order to steal the nomination - over McCain, someone who is still (wrongly) thought of by many in this group as a maverick and having obtained his nomination both outright and fairly, you are really in denial.

I had been a big fan of MSNBC until I saw the disgusting bias suddenly appearing in the ravings by Chris Matthews and Keith Olberman. Chuck Todd also has been bought. I have begun watchcing CNN in the hope that I could get some un-biased reporting.

Yes, the reporting has a different slant. All of you out there who have been fans of MSNBC as I was owe it to yourselves to take a good look at NBC and realize the biased garbage they have been spewing around. It makes me lose faith in our system of elections.

IT IS NOT UP TO THE PRESS TO TAKE SUCH LIBERTY TO SWAY THE ELECTORATE. WHO THE HELL CARES WHAT THEIR PERSONAL OPINIONS ARE? LET US STICK TO OUR OWN.

Ooooh, if the media reports in Hillary's favor it's just being "fair" but when they tell the truth . . . which is EXACTLY what they did: #1 Hilliary CANNOT catch Obama in pledged delegates and #2 the media has kept this "race" alive simply for ratings.

The only way Hillary can steal the nomination is to have the rules re-written in her favor or buy-off a significant enough number of "SuperDelegates" to over-turn the ENTIRE primary/caucus process.

BTW, CNN should stand for Clinton News Network

My goodness, I thought Olbermann and Matthews were on the verge of a nervous breakdown last night ! I believe I actually did see a tear running down Olbermann's cheek, just before Matthews gently licked it off before Maddow could.
I was sorely disappointed that someone of Brokaw's stature did not have the gumption to smack all three of these clowns for their total transparency and dedication to Obama. I guess MSNBC and Steve Capus paid his price for him to be just another stooge.... SAD !!!!

what's wroing with you, you can't handle the truth, Chris Matthews has it right, Hillary cannot win, she is too far behind and it serves her right because she tried to use scare tactics to scare all the older American with those awful video adds that are backfiring in her face. Hillary didn't win a thing last night, all she did was keep her head above water just to die on another day. The people have spoken, she can't win. If she was so smart, she wouldn't have let Obama's team sucker her into spending up all her money and that's just what she did, trying to counter act Obama ads in PA and they knew she didn't have the money to keep up. She scraped up 2.3 Million last night, but Obama has a lot more money in the bank and she is in the red, she is a loser just like her low life husband.

New percentages on the vote last night Einstein:

Obama : 45.7%

Clinton: 54.3%

= 8.6%

I'm sure that the superdelegates will be so impressed. Oh, by the way she is getting a whole 6 more delegates than President Obama.

Here’s what I think they mean. Super delegates notwithstanding it is possible for Hillary win but very improbable. In order for her to take the lead in pledge delegates she needs to win all of the remaining primaries and caucuses by a margin of 60-40 or greater. This is virtually impossible in light of the fact that in a number of the upcoming contests Obama is favored to win, while in others a 20 point spread in favor of Clinton is not reasonably expected. So there is probably truth in the notion that if Obama were in Clinton’s position, given the risk of harm to the party, he would have probably been pressured to leave the race by now.

Logically therefore Clinton’s campaign must be as much about Obama somehow becoming un-electable as it is about her winning outright. Of course in all this Obama’s supporters need to be handled with the greatest of care. If they conclude that Hillary won “dirty” whatever that is, then she will render herself unelectable. In their minds, to vote for her under such circumstances in the general election would be tantamount to rewarding a cheater.

Dirt on Obama makes him look like Jesus Christ compared to Hillary. Better get your facts about "dirt" straight. All the so called dirt is insinuation, misrepresentation and guilt by association. While your candidate is out there telling bold-faced lies about sniper fire. You Clinton supporters just need to stick to policy as your arguments, because when it comes to who's dirty, Hillary ranks slightly higher than Karl Rove.

RACE is alive and well in America. The democratic party will not beable to withstand the uproar if they over turn the will of the people. Obama has more popular votes, more delegates , more states. PA was not a "game changer" like Clinton camp says. Clinton on the other hand wants to change the GAME. FL and MI broke the rules, Obama and Clinton both agreed not to campaign there and that their votes would not count. Big surprise folks, Clinton is losing and now she wants to count those votes.

She dosen't want to disinfranchise the voters, she says! She also says" I can win the big states", well Clinton you won TX with the help of the Republican ditto heads. I wonder if that didn't happen in PA also. Regardless, Obama can carry the big states against McCain. He won't win TX, but either would Clinton. That is a RED state, and a RACIST state. I know I live here.

I am a white woman over 50 and we will all vote for Obama in the General Election in my family. I am a proud voter of Obama. The dirty Republicans here in Kingwood,TX don't like my signs in my yard, or on my car , (infact they steal them off my car) but you know what if Hillary can say it , I can too. SCREW EM!!

Chris Matthews got it right. The media/talking heads clearly want this race to continue so they can sit around and say the same old things over and over again AND get paid for it!

The worst over the past several weeks has been Joe Scarboro with his incessant ranting about Obama and why he can't close the deal which is always followed by lengthy examples of what he did when he was running for office and anecdotes about people who stop him in airports to repeat back his opinions to him. He is rude to all others around him who might like to shed some enlightened light on the discussion.

Why does MSNBC offer this blowhard to it's viewers where there must be other Republican talking heads who could do the job so much better.

Maybe you should actually check the math before you press your caps lock key and begin typing.

According to the State of PA results, Hillary won by 9.2% with 99.44% of the precincts reporting.

Margin of victory = (Hillary - Obama) / (Hillary + Obama) * 100.

According to the PA State Department:
http://www.electionreturns.state.pa.us/

Hillary's Votes = 1,237,696
Obama's Votes = 1,029,672
Margin of Victory = 9.2%

This story shows why we should be truly thankful for the Internet. Corporate media has one interest, and one interest only-to make the cash register ring! But in the process, unfortunately, they have the ability to sway people who are unable to exercise reasoning without prejudice. This happens because too many people think that we simply live to "eat"! Too many people think that patriotism, and religion, is higher than truth!

The Hillary Clinton campaign should offer her supporters a crash course in arithmetic.

Delegate numbers is the only measure that counts. Popular vote really does not.

The only way she can win is by winning superdelegates. The problem is superdelegates will not go against the voters unless they have a damn good reason. Hillary telling them he is not electable won't be a good enough answer for them.

If Obama goes on with the nomination, he has better chance of bringing the party together.

If clinton steals the nomination, you can expect mass retaliation from Obama supporters.

This is exactly what I have been saying: MATH MATTERS , she can't win the delegates. That is how we nominate our candidate in the primary. She can't catch up, period. But you idiots keep voting for her and while you do that McCain is spouting his bullshit around the country.

The troops matter, the gas prices matter, economy matters, enviroment matters, healthcare matters, and most importantly, the freaking MATH MATTERS.

Why do you keep prolonging this? McCain and the GOP are loving this and the media has done this for RATINGS. The stupid people in PA voted for her , when they were polled they thought she was more negative to Obama by 67% and asked who they thought would ultimately be the nominee , they said OBAMA.

What the HELL????

I think Obama supporters are doing the debate a disservice by saying that she can’t win. Mathematically, in fact she can still win. All she needs to do is get in excess of 60% of the remaining pledge delegates. She can also take the popular vote since the number of votes outstanding is greater than the number of votes that separate the two candidates.

So mathematically it is not yet impossible for her to win. Given all that we think we know about the political landscape, true it is highly improbable that she will win either the pledge delegate count or the popular vote, but not impossible. The MSM talking heads are not helping matters by using terms like “mathematical certainty”, and “mathematical impossibility”...as if they know anything about math.

I just think that if we more accurately describe what we all see we might find more to agree on.

And what makes you think there is not more dirt to dig up on the Clintons, especially given the wild riches made after he left office -- not precisely commesurate with what he has been doing for a living presumably.

McCain won't coddle him, but McCain also cannot differentiate between Sunni and Shi'ia. He also has a middle east policy which is downright hippy dippy compared to Hillary's rather frightening Lieberman-soaked one. Also McCain does not know anything about the economy as he proudly admits.

I will support Clinton in a general election, even if she is more right wing than McCain about the middle east.

I wish the media would stop spinning this PA win. It was expected, she had the whole establishment behind her. Obama won the cities and the educated voters. Clinton got the beer drinking, non-educated ,white woman over 45/50 yrs. , elderly voters over 65 (that are racist) Infact, the state did factor his color of his skin into their vote. I don't doubt that at all.

Superdelegates can not take the nomination away from Obama. We nominate by delegates in the primary election. MATH MATTERS! She can't win by delegates, that is over! Superdelegates should pledge that they will support the candidate with the most delegates, not including FL or MI.
Period!!!
